Corentin Moutet drops seven F-bombs in chaotic Queen’s interview

Corentin Moutet handled one of tennis’ biggest serves.

The post-match interview was a little messier.

The Frenchman left the crowd laughing at Queen’s Club after swearing seven times in less than a minute during his on-court interview following a 6-7(5), 6-4, 7-6(5) win over fellow Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Queen’s is one of tennis’ traditional grass-court stops in London before Wimbledon, which made the scene even more unexpected.

Moutet had just survived Mpetshi Perricard, one of the sport’s biggest servers, when BBC interviewer Jenny Drummond asked him about facing a 142 mph second serve on match point.

“That’s so frustrating, you know,” Moutet said. “When I had match point, I was on the second serve. OK, you aim in the middle, whatever you do, just put the ball in the court.

“And then he hits me 142 and I was like, ‘f–k.’”

Moutet appeared to realize what he had said as the crowd started laughing.

Drummond quickly stepped in.

Warning: Graphic language

“No F-bombs please,” she told him.

That did not quite have the intended effect.

Moutet took the microphone back and immediately repeated the word several more times, prompting Drummond to pull the mic away as the crowd continued to laugh.

The interview briefly resumed, but Moutet again went back to the same expletive, and the segment was quickly cut short.

BBC presenter Clare Balding later apologized to viewers from the studio.

Moutet seemed to take the moment in stride afterward, commenting on the tournament’s Instagram post that he had been joking.

“I was just joking I hope you guys didn’t get offended,” Moutet wrote. “Thanks for the love.”

The ATP could still fine Moutet, as players can be punished for audible obscenities while on site.

Still, the moment added some unexpected comedy to what was otherwise an impressive grass-court win for the 27-year-old, who found a way past one of the biggest serves in tennis at one of the sport’s main Wimbledon warmup events.

Moutet is scheduled to face Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina next at Queen’s, with Wimbledon looming later this month.

Firm revamping Penn Station releases Knicks-themed design

It’s the Knicks’ house.

The firm tapped to revamp Penn Station released a bright orange-and-blue rendering of the upcoming transportation mecca in honor of the basketball phenom’s historic win.

The Knicks’ pride is seen beaming out of Madison Square Garden as it looms behind the soon-to-be improved Penn Station, with an equally orange Empire State Building peering out from the background.

Penn Transformation Partners released the Knicks-themed rendering to honor the team after its historic NBA championship victory — and ahead of what could be the biggest ticker tape parade held Thursday in their honor.

“If this Knicks team taught us anything, it’s that New York comebacks are the best kind. Penn Station’s comeback is next!” the firm told The Post.

The firm was tapped by the Trump administration to lead an $8 billion transformation of the iconic transit hub into ” America’s world-class station.”

The project will eliminate the decrepit Manhattan station’s current bulky columns on dimly lit train platforms in favor of brighter lighting and higher ceilings, and trade in the current run-down ticketing area for a uniform main concourse with a 50-foot ceiling anchored by a huge gold-plated clock.

Groundbreaking is expected by the end of 2027.

Nolan McLean bounces back by dominating Reds as Mets avoid sweep

CINCINNATI — In a rotation littered by question marks, Nolan McLean should be the closest thing the Mets have to a slam dunk every fifth or sixth day.

And yet, that version of McLean has largely been lacking, due to shortened outings caused by high pitch counts.

Wednesday was more like it for the rookie right-hander, who threw strikes, allowing him to match his longest start of the season in the Mets’ 9-1 victory over the Reds at Great American Ball Park.

The Mets avoided a three-game sweep on a day they totaled 15 hits and jumped to a comfortable lead by the middle innings.

McLean’s performance followed letdowns by Tobias Myers and Kodai Senga that were largely responsible for the Mets losing the first two games in the series.

McLean lasted seven innings (the third time this season he’s extended that deep) and allowed one unearned run on three hits and one walk with nine strikeouts. He matched a season high with 101 pitches.

Offensively, the Mets received a 3-for-4 performance from Bo Bichette, who reached base four times to continue a torrid stretch. Juan Soto and Francisco Alvarez also provided three hits apiece.

The Mets sent eight batters to the plate against lefty Nick Lodolo in the third inning when they scored three runs on four hits and a walk. Soto, Marcus Semien and Mark Vientos delivered RBI singles in succession to give the Mets a 3-0 lead. Luis Torrens’ infield single and a walk to Bichette ignited the rally.

Vientos’ error in the bottom of the inning – he mishandled Zack Short’s throw to first base – led to the Reds scoring an unearned run on JJ Bleday’s sacrifice fly. McLean allowed a double to Matt McLain – on a ball Soto tried to shoestring in left field – before plunking Edwin Arroyo.

Bichette’s single in the fifth started another rally. Soto and Semien followed with singles to load the bases before Vientos’ sacrifice fly extended the lead to 4-1. Alvarez stroked an RBI single and A.J. Ewing’s two-run double put the Mets ahead 7-1.

Bichette delivered an RBI single in the eighth to complete his big afternoon, and Soto’s ensuing double extended the Mets’ lead to 9-1.

Wimbledon 2026: Dan Evans misses out on men’s singles wildcard

British tennis stalwart Dan Evans will have to go through qualifying to make the main draw of the men’s singles at Wimbledon after missing out on a wildcard.

The 36-year-old, who announced last week that he would end his tennis career after Wimbledon, had hoped to receive one of the eight singles wildcards to guarantee an emotional final appearance at his home Grand Slam.

However, the final two places were awarded to British pair Harry Wendelken and Felix Gill on Wednesday.

Evans expressed frustration at not being given a wildcard for the HSBC Championships at Queen’s Club, saying it would have been a “classy gesture” to get one.

“I feel I’ve done plenty of time of helping British tennis, off the court, and on the court, so I hope to get one,” he said.

World number 244 Evans, who was given a wildcard last year, is a former British number one and has reached the Wimbledon third round on three occasions.

He was part of the team that secured Britain’s first Davis Cup title in 79 years in 2015 and partnered Sir Andy Murray at the Paris Olympics in 2024.

Evans has been granted a wildcard to play in the men’s doubles alongside Henry Searle to ensure at least one more match at Wimbledon.

But on Monday he will head to Roehampton for the Wimbledon qualifying competition where he will need to win three matches to secure one of the 16 places in the singles draw.

Wendelken, 24, beat two top-100 ranked players to qualify for the main draw at Queen’s this week and pushed Botic van de Zandschulp close during a first-round defeat on Monday.

Gill, also 24, is ranked 222 in the world while Wendelken is two places lower at 224.

Italy’s Matteo Berrettini, the 2021 runner-up, and 2022 finalist Nick Kyrgios of Australia also missed out on wildcards.

One remaining wildcard for the women’s singles is yet to be announced.

Men’s singles wildcards: Grigor Dimitrov, Jacob Fearnley, Arthur Fery, Jack Pinnington Jones, Toby Samuel, Stan Wawrinka, Harry Wendelken, Felix Gill

Women’s singles wildcards: Maja Chwalinska, Harriet Dart, Alicia Dudeney, Hannah Klugman, Mika Stojsavljevic, Katie Swan, Mimi Xu, player TBC

New insight into Rex Heuermann’s ‘kill room’ torture makes victim’s kin flee Long Island courtroom

New details of serial killer Rex Heuermann’s sick torture routine inside his basement “kill room” was too much for one relative of his helpless victims to bare.

“I can’t!” the woman screamed as Suffolk County DA Ray Tierney began describing Heuermann’s monstrous crimes in a Riverhead courtroom where the killer was sentenced to life in prison.

“When he talks about what he needs to dispose of, he talks about props, toys, wood items,” Tierney told Judge Timothy Mazzei. “Wood items that he made himself with members of his own family that he kept in his house and he used during the execution of these murders, only to destroy them.

“He’s treating this as if it were a sport,” the prosecutor said. “The talking of lives as though it were a sport.”

Heuermann, who pleaded guilty in April to strangling and dismembering eight sex workers — all but one in a “kill room” in the basement of his family’s Massapequa Park home — was slapped with three life terms.

The hulking architect killed the women between 1993 and 2010, with the cases unsolved until he was arrested outside his Manhattan office in 2023.

Stay up to date on the Gilgo Beach murders:

Suffolk County prosecutors said Heuermann kept a meticulous “planning document” on his computer, where he kept gory notes on how to prepare to “hunt” his victims and torture them to death.

The victims, all young and petite sex workers, were discovered in remote areas in Gilgo Beach and in Manorville in 2010 and 2011.

Ex-Egyptian doctor detained over hospital abuse allegations, released on bail

CAIRO — A former Egyptian doctor was arrested from her home and released on bail Wednesday after posting testimony on social media detailing obstetric violence and mistreatment of women at a university hospital in Alexandria, where she had previously trained as a medical resident.

Authorities raided the home of Omnia Swaydan in Damanhour, Beheira province, around 6 p.m. local time on Tuesday while she was alone and ordered her to turn off her phone before taking her into custody, according to Asmaa Naeim, a lawyer following her case.

Swaydan appeared Wednesday afternoon at the prosecutor’s office in Alexandria for questioning, Naeim told The Associated Press.

She was questioned on charges of spreading false news and “misusing” social media, according to lawyer Mohamed Ramadan, who attended her interrogation. On Facebook, late Wednesday afternoon, he said she was released on 20,000 Egyptian pounds ($401).

Ramadan didn’t immediately respond to requests for further comment. Naeim said that Swaydan’s case is ongoing and that she could be brought again for questioning at any point or face charges to which she might face trial and imprisonment.

The arrest came after Swaydan on Monday posted harrowing details of abuses and violations that happened in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of al-Shatabi Hospital, which is a university hospital in Alexandria.

Her post on Facebook detailed incidents she saw that involved women who experienced sexual assault, violence, verbal abuses and intentional medical malpractice and negligence at the hands of doctors and nurses.

On Tuesday, before her arrest, she edited the post to say that she had shared the testimony to encourage a serious review of working conditions and medical practices in the ward, while calling for protections for women, patients and junior doctors.

In response to Swaydan’s post, the Doctors’ Syndicate said in a statement Tuesday that it had not received any official complaints regarding the incidents she described and urged anyone with claims to file formal reports with the syndicate, relevant regulatory bodies, the hospital administration, Alexandria University, or the public prosecutor. The following day, the syndicate said its Alexandria branch was closely monitoring developments surrounding the allegations at al-Shatabi Hospital.

Alexandria University released a statement saying it is reviewing and investigating the allegations of misconduct in the affiliated university hospital.

Egyptian human rights groups, including the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, condemned Swaydan’s arrest. Lobna Darwish, head of the group’s women’s rights and gender program, said the allegations were not unique to al-Shatabi Hospital.

Darwish told The Associated Press that obstetric violence has long been common at hospitals offering free or low-cost medical services and even across some private medical facilities.

“Unfortunately, the state treats anything that sparks public concern as a security matter,” she said. “The fact that there are many testimonies appearing online from women who have experienced obstetric violence and abuse while giving birth naturally is an indication that we have a real crisis.”

Swaydan’s testimony sparked online outrage among Egyptians, including women who came forward with similar abuses they or their family members faced at al-Shatabi Hospital and at public hospitals across the country.

The accounts that followed Swaydan’s post included one woman’s testimony that her sister died after a surgical error during childbirth led to complications that were mishandled by medical staff. Another woman shared a video testimony saying her daughter died following a tracheostomy procedure due to poor hygiene and neglect postsurgery at the hospital.

The Associated Press couldn’t immeditaley verify those claims.

Royal Ascot 2026 results: Ombudsman claims back-to-back wins in Prince Of Wales’s Stakes

Ombudsman won the Prince of Wales’s Stakes for a second straight year after producing an “electric” display in the feature race of day two at Royal Ascot.

Devil’s Advocate and Mississippi River set the pace in the 10-furlong Group One race, before William Buick urged Ombudsman into contention halfway up the straight.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Daryz and Aidan O’Brien’s Minnie Hauk got into the mix as the pacemakers faltered.

The 11-10 favourite, who is trained jointly by John Gosden and his son Thady, then powered clear to win by four lengths from Minnie Hauk, a multiple Group One-winning filly.

The five-year-old Godolphin colt became the first horse to go back-to-back in this event since the Gosden-trained Muhtarram in 1995. It was also a 40th Ascot winner for Buick and a 72nd for Gosden.

“Ascot is enormous now,” said John Gosden. “It is so big in our season and the Prince of Wales’s Stakes is one of the jewels. To win these races is what it’s all about and it’s great to beat the best on this stage.”

He added: “A furlong and a half to go, I thought ‘they are going to have to get to [the pacemakers]’ but this horse has got a turn of foot, great acceleration for a mile-and-a-quarter horse and he just showed that class.

“It was quite something to come away from the field like that. I thought it was one of the great performances of his career.”

The Juddmonte International at York in August is a “major target” for Ombudsman, whose performance was described as “very rare” by jockey Buick.

“What he did there was mind blowing,” he added. “His turn of foot is that of a miler but he stays 10 furlongs, it was an amazing performance.

“He’s a closer. I’ve ridden some amazing horses but this horse has an electric turn of foot and he must be right up there.”
