First victim of B-52 crash at Edwards Air Force Base identified

The first victim of the catastrophic crash of a B-52 Stratofortress at Edwards Air Force Base has been identified as Lt. Col. Miles Middleton, a decorated test pilot.

“Pam Middleton and her two children are facing an unimaginable loss after Pam’s husband, Miles, was tragically killed in the crash of the B-52 at Edwards Airforce base,” a family friend said.

Middleton had commanded the 419th Flight Test Squadron at the base in 2016 until 2018. The squadron oversees the Global Power Bomber Combined Test Force, which is responsible for testing some of the military’s most powerful aircraft.

Photos released by the base showed Middleton accepting the squadron guidon from Col. Scott Cain, commander of the 412th Operations Group, during a June 10 change-of-command ceremony.

A GoFundMe painted a heartbreaking picture of the challenges now facing Middleton’s widow, Pam, and the couple’s two children —a boy and a girl.

“With Miles gone, Pam is now responsible for supporting her family on her own,” the organizer wrote. “The funds raised will help cover immediate expenses and bills, providing some relief as they adjust to this new reality.”

“In addition to daily living costs, as a community we hope to raise funds for the children’s college, so they can look forward to a brighter future despite the heartbreak they are experiencing,” the friend wrote.

As of Tuesday morning, the appeal had raised a little over $25,000 of its $45,000 goal. GoFundMe

Edward’s base has not formally identified any of the eight victims. The Post has reached out to them for comment.

The appeal concluded with a plea for support.

“Together, we can show Pam and her family that they are not alone, and that their community stands beside them.”

A massive plume of black smoke billowed over the remote desert installation in eastern California after the nuclear-capable aircraft slammed into the ground and erupted into flames.

Military officials later confirmed the crash was “not survivable.”

“An Air Force B-52 Stratofortress carrying eight people on a routine test mission crashed today shortly after take-off at 11:20 a.m. Initial indications are that the crash was not survivable,” the base said in a statement.

Col. James Hayes told reporters the aircraft went down “immediately” after takeoff and that the victims included a mix of military personnel, civilian government employees and contractors.

Hayes described the tragedy as “tragic and unsurvivable,” adding that investigators are only beginning to piece together what went wrong and that it could take months to determine the cause.

The bomber was conducting a routine test flight when it crashed within the boundaries of Edwards, a storied desert base that serves as the Air Force’s premier flight-testing center.

The aircraft involved was one of the Air Force’s aging but heavily upgraded B-52 bombers, a fleet first introduced in 1955 and built by Boeing. The planes can carry up to 70,000 pounds of weapons and fly roughly 8,800 miles without refueling.

A B-52 equipped with an upgraded radar system arrived at Edwards from Boeing’s facility in San Antonio last December as part of a sweeping modernization effort designed to keep the bombers flying for decades to come.

In the wake of Monday’s crash, condolences poured in from across California.

“My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the entire Edwards Air Force Base community impacted by this tragic incident,” Gavin Newsom wrote on social media. “Grateful to the first responders and emergency crew currently on the ground.”

“Heather and I are praying for everyone involved in today’s B-52 crash at Edwards Air Force Base, especially the crew, their families, and the first responders on scene,” Rep. Jay Obernolte added.

As investigators search for answers, Middleton’s loved ones are left trying to navigate life without the husband, father and Air Force leader they say was taken far too soon.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ prison release date gets moved up even more

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ time in federal prison has been reduced again.

The embattled music mogul is now set to be released on Feb. 23, 2028, Page Six confirmed on Tuesday.

The 56-year-old disgraced rapper was initially sentenced to 50 months behind bars in October 2025 after being convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution.

His original release date was May 8, 2028 — and was pushed back to June 4 of that same year in November 2025.

The pushback allegedly stemmed from Combs violating multiple prison rules, from reportedly having a three-way phone call and consuming “homemade alcohol.”

However, Page Six exclusively revealed in March that Combs shaved six weeks off of his sentence.

At the time, his new release date was April 25, 2028, with the change perhaps being linked to Combs being accepted into a drug-abuse rehabilitation program.

His rep told us, “Mr. Combs is an active participant in the Residential Drug Abuse Program and has taken his rehabilitation process seriously from the start. He is fully engaged in his work, focused on growth and committed to positive change.”

Combs’ sentence was subsequently reduced yet again to April 15.

Combs’ rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment on the latest reduction.

The Grammy winner’s lawyers appealed his July 2025 conviction and sentencing last December — and continued to fight for this in a March filing.

Calling the situation a “perversion of justice,” the lawyers asked for Combs’ “immediate release and a judgment of acquittal or at least vacate and remand for resentencing.”

Federal prosecutors, meanwhile, wish for the court to reject the appeal, which is still pending.

Combs was arrested in September 2024 and charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution.

He was acquitted of the more serious charges after a lengthy trial.

World Cup 2026: The bizarre rise of Scotland anthem ‘Yes Sir, I Can Boogie’

Five years on, the nation was gripped by post-match footage of the Scotland team bouncing to the beat of Baccara in Serbia after sealing qualification for Euro 2020.

Considine was an unused substitute on that famous night in Belgrade but was seen celebrating wildly with dressing-room DJ Kieran Tierney and the rest of the squad in a legendary video, external posted on Scotland’s social media platforms.

The Tartan Army were unable to travel for the behind-closed-doors play-off amid strict Covid lockdown measures, but the anthem was fresh in the memory when a limited number of supporters were able to attend Euros matches that summer.

The victory and the scenes that followed provided a much-needed lift to the nation and the disco duo, who were blown away by the shock revival.

“With this pandemic, I have been sitting at home and this has uplifted me in a way you cannot imagine,” Maria Mendiola, who died five years ago, told BBC Scotland.

“I will always thank the Scottish team and especially Andy Considine for making me so happy after 43 years.

“I saw all the articles and everyone was calling me. I was delighted. I thanked the Scotland team and spoke with Andy over Instagram. He had such nice words.”

The anthem’s legacy continues, becoming a staple of the Hampden playlist and following the team to Euro 2024 in Germany and to the United States this summer.

The sight of tens of thousands of Scots throwing themselves about to the tune after a first World Cup win in 36 years would have been a surreal one for Considine and the group that dragged him to that Shoreditch studio.

Days later, footage of Boston Red Sox fans joining in during a Tartan Army takeover at Fenway Park took things to a silly new level – and there is time yet to go beyond that.

Video footage showed the girl and her father in the process of crossing into Mexico from San Diego. Investigators said Fregoso allegedly made statements suggesting he planned to flee the country.

A vehicle the girl and Fregoso had been traveling in was found in San Ysidro, a San Diego border town. The pair had been last seen Sunday morning, May 24, near Alsace Avenue and Ferndale Street.

Daleyza, a U.S. citizen, is in the custody of Mexican officials and is in the process of returning to her home country with the help of the American embassy.

Fregoso will be extradited to the U.S. to face one count of murder and one misdemeanor count of child abuse under circumstances or conditions other than great bodily injury or death. If convicted of all charges, he could face 25 years to life in prison.

Outdoor retailer West Marine closing 59 stores after bankruptcy

Hook, line and sinker — a massive outdoor retailer is shutting down nearly 60 locations.

The Dick’s Sporting Goods rival, West Marine, recently announced that 59 stores will close down.

Doomed Florida-based retailer — known for its expansive boating, fishing, sailing and watersports supplies — is closing shortly after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May.

“West Marine is closing select retail locations as part of its ongoing Chapter 11 restructuring. This decision reflects our effort to align our store footprint with our current business needs, while continuing to evaluate our portfolio in coordination with landlords,” a chain’s spokesperson told The Post.

“We are committed to supporting affected Crew Members through this transition and will continue serving our customers at remaining locations, as well as online and through our West Marine Pro App,” they added.

The nation’s largest outdoor spot has been struggling to stay afloat since 2023 as court documents show debt grew into double-digit millions stemming from long-term leases.

“[These leases] have depleted liquidity and proved an insurmountable obstacle that could not be adequately addressed absent this chapter 11 filing,” West Marine wrote in the bankruptcy document.

Plus, boating is expensive and consumers just don’t have to cash to make huge purchases — not to mention rising diesel prices.

Despite closing dozens of spots, the struggling chain claims it’s “stocked and ready to help with everything you need to get back on the water,” according to its website. And they’re right.

The unfortunate closures do bring some pretty great sales for shoppers. A West Marine in Spokane revealed liquidation will start at up to 40% and continue through September with “with savings expected to increase weekly.”

While the floundering chain didn’t reveal the dates each retailer is closing, it did provide a list of the stores shutting.

Boyfriend who watched longtime partner mauled to death by pit bulls arrested after cops find three dead dogs in trailer

The boyfriend of a woman who was viciously mauled to death by her neighbor’s pit bulls has been charged with animal cruelty after his own three dogs were found dead in his trailer, according to police.

Donnell Smith, who saw his long-time partner Jodi Cowan, 50, being ripped to pieces last month, was arrested in Brevard County, Florida after he locked the dogs in the trailer for days without food, water or ventilation, WKMG-TV reported.

“Folks, it doesn’t get any sadder than this,” Brevard Sheriff Wayne Ivey said in a video statement Monday.

“Look at all the lives that have been lost, all the lives that have been impacted by this. It simply comes down to people not taking care of the pets they’re responsible for,” he added.

The dead dogs were discovered after police received a report on June 11 of a foul stench coming from the trailer. Police spoke with Smith, who eventually admitted that the dogs he had shared with Cowan had been in there without any food or water since June 2 or 3.

The Sheriff’s Office shared disturbing images of the decomposing pets.

Smith was taken into custody and is facing animal cruelty and other related charges. He is being held on a $15,000 bond.

Cowan was attacked by her neighbors’ bloodthirsty pit bulls on May 19 while she was out walking her smaller dog, surveillance footage shows.

Smith returned to their home that afternoon and heard screaming in the distance and saw their neighbors’ two dogs dragging Cowan down the road.

When he got to her, he found Cowan in a pool of blood covered in dog bites, Smith told local news outlets at the time. He said the pair of pit bulls came back and tried to take her away again.

Smith told reporters last month he came home and found Cowan being dragged by the dogs. Brevard County Sheriff’s Office

“I pulled my knife out, you know, just swinging it with one hand and holding the blood with the other, trying to stop her from bleeding,” a distraught Smith said.

“It was brutal. Seeing the same woman I’ve loved for the last 25-30 years just ripped apart by two animals was just … I’ll never get that image out of my mind.”

He called 911 and Cowan was rushed to a hospital where she died from her injuries.

Mehdi Taremi: ‘Everything is a disaster’ for Iran at World Cup

An Iranian soccer player is responding to “oppressive” and “disastrous” treatment of the team during the World Cup.

Striker Mehdi Taremi claimed the Iran national team was kicked out of the United States immediately following their 2-2 draw against New Zealand in Los Angeles on Monday.

Taremi pleaded with FIFA to help fix the “unfair” situation.

“Everything is like a disaster actually for us,” Taremi said.

Before the tournament began, there was an agreement in place that Iran’s team would fly in and out of the U.S. on the days they play their group stage matches, all of which take place in the States.

The arrangement is due to the war involving the U.S. and Iran that has continued since February.

President Donald Trump warned the Iranian team not to come “for their own life and safety.”

Iran’s starting lineup poses for a photo before its World Cup match against New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15, 2026. Anadolu via Getty Images

Iran moved its original World Cup base from Arizona to Mexico. Nearly a dozen members of the team were initially denied visas.

Now, the team is claiming they were originally supposed to stay in the U.S. overnight for recovery purposes and train the next morning before returning to their base in Tijuana.

However, FIFA president Gianni Infantino visited the players in the dressing room post-match, where Iran head coach Amir Ghalenoei and Taremi suggested American authorities were forcing the team to fly back to Mexico immediately against their wishes.

Every match of the FIFA World Cup will air on either FOX or FOX Sports 1. If you don’t have cable, you can take advantage of a DIRECTV free trial to stream it all.

Prefer to check out the action live and in person? Shop World Cup 2026 tickets on SeatGeek and make sure to use promo code NYPOST10 for $10 off purchases over $250 at checkout if you’re a first-time SeatGeek user.

“We have to leave Los Angeles right now, and it’s not good for us. It’s not good for the football, because in a World Cup, you have to prepare good for the next game, because it is a lot of stress for the players and the staff and everyone. But we don’t have that support and I think FIFA has to help us more than this,” Taremi said.

Taremi followed by sharing that the team asked Infantino why they were being kicked out. When asked Infantino’s response, Taremi replied, “He just wants to help us.”

Ghalenoei put his thoughts plainly: “Our team is the most oppressed one in the whole World Cup.”

There is an understanding that Infantino told the team that he would do his best to make sure more Iranian officials, who haven’t received visas, could enter the US for the last two group stage matches.

The tension lingers as Trump announced this week that a deal to end the war with Iran is “all signed.”

The official signing ceremony will take place in Switzerland on Friday.
