In theory, Rashford could return to his boyhood club and resume his career there.
Head coach Michael Carrick knows him well. Carrick has been a team-mate, coach and – for three games following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal in 2021 – hands-on manager of one of the recent star graduates of United’s academy.
When Carrick was asked about Rashford in April, he said no decision had been made about the attacker’s future.
He added: “Whoever’s here, I want to work with them and help them to improve.”
It is not quite as simple as that.
Minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to bring wage costs down and that is not simple when the highest earner is on such a huge sum.
In addition, United gave Rashford’s number 10 shirt to Matheus Cunha last season and are hardly likely to take it off the Brazilian.
The summer squad rebuilding plans are being pieced together in the belief Rashford will not be part of them.
Yet it is tricky. Twelve months ago, Ruben Amorim placed Rashford in his ‘bomb squad’ and told him to train at different times to the main group. He did the same with Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia.
Last week, world governing body Fifa announced a memorandum of understanding with global players’ union Fifpro. Within the detail, it was confirmed any player exiled from the main group can demand to be released – and to have their contracts paid up.
It is fair to assume ostracising Rashford this season is off the agenda.
Reports after that loss suggested Lamouchi had been immediately sacked but sources told BBC Sport that the 54-year-old took training on Monday.
However, the Tunisian Football Association has now confirmed that the Frenchman’s contract has been terminated by “mutual agreement”.
“Plans are under way to appoint Mondher Kebaier as the national team coach,” the Tunisian FA said in a statement.
Lamouchi’s departure means he is the first manager in World Cup history to be sacked after just one game.
The former Nottingham Forest boss was only appointed in January replacing Sami Trabelsi, who left his role following a last-16 defeat to Mali at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking after the defeat by Sweden, Lamouchi said the loss was “painful”.
“Starting the competition with this bad of a loss is indeed difficult,” Lamouchi said.
“We made too many mistakes, and this is not something that we can do. We are shooting ourselves in the foot, we are hurting ourselves.”
The 54-year-old won just one of his five games as Tunisia head coach – a 1-0 victory over Haiti in his first game in charge.
In their two warm-up games for the World Cup earlier this month, they lost 1-0 to Austria before suffering a 5-0 thrashing by Belgium.
Tunisia face Japan and Netherlands in their remaining Group F fixtures.
The states with the best affordability for homebuyersand that are facilitating the most construction of new homes are centered in the Midwest and South, according to a new report.
Realtor.com released the 2026 edition of its housing report cards for all 50 states plus the District of Columbia, which showed that states across the Midwest and South outperformed their peers from the Northeast and West.
While no states earned an A+ grade, which suggests that all have room for improvement, 12 of the 13 states with the highest grades were all located in the Midwest and South, receiving grades in the B- to A range. Half of the grade is based on an affordability measure, while the other half is based on homebuilding activity.
“This year’s refresh reveals a familiar regional divide, but also some notable shifts beneath the surface, with a new state at the top of the class and a handful of states whose grades moved dramatically in either direction,” said Realtor.com senior economist Joel Berner.
Indiana topped the list with a total score of 76.3 on the 100-point scale, earning an A based on strong affordability and homebuilding activity that helped it rise three spots from last year’s rankings.

The median-priced home in the Hoosier State was $295,810 and required about 28% of the median household income of $71,469, which fell below the 30% benchmark for affordability.
Other states to receive A grades include Iowa, which has a median listing price of $282,886 and a median household income of $75,991, as well as last year’s leader South Carolina, with a median listing price of $363,896 and a median income of $67,758.
Texas ranked fourth with an A- grade, given the Lone Star State’s median listing price of $364,749 and median income of $76,585. North Carolina and Nebraska were the only two states to receive B+ grades.

The biggest risers in the report compared with last year were Delaware and Utah, which each jumped 12 spots. Delaware rose from 19th to 7th, while Utah saw its ranking rise from 29th to 17th.
Six states received F grades on their report cards, with New York ranking last due to a $668,173 median listing price and median income of $82,657. The other five states that received F grades were all located in the Northeast or West, with Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Hawaii, California and Connecticut rounding out the bottom of the list in order of the worst grade to the best.
Most of the states near the bottom of the rankings saw their rankings hold steady or change little from a year ago, as they continue to face high prices, limited land for building with restrictive zoning policies, and building costs outpacing what middle-income buyers can afford.

The biggest drops were three states which all fell eight spots in the rankings – Alabama fell from 13th to 21st, Maryland dropped from 23rd to 31st, and New Jerseyslipped from 35th to 43rd.
Here’s the list of the Realtor.com report’s grades for each of the 50 states as well as the District of Columbia:
There are increased odds of tropical development across the southern U.S. this week as the risk of heavy rain and flooding has communities on alert.
As of the latest update from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the odds for tropical development have increased to 50% over the next seven days.
The system was designated as Invest 90L and is the first invest of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, according to the FOX Forecast Center.
The term “invest” is used every hurricane season in the Atlantic, Eastern and Central Pacific basins, accompanied by a number from 90 to 99 and either the suffix “L,” “E” or “C,” respectively.
The main threat across the Gulf region will entail gusty coastal winds and tropical rain, which will bring the risk of flash flooding.
According to the FOX Forecast Center, confidence in tropical development will increase over the next few days in the south, fueling a flash flood risk for millions across Texas to Georgia.
A Level 3 out of 4 flood threat has been issued each day through Thursday for various parts of the region, with widespread and locally catastrophic flooding expected over the coming days, according to the FOX Forecast Center.
Weather map showing a tropical threat with high risk in parts of Texas, including Corpus Christi and Brownsville.
Deep tropical moisture will linger northward and will combine with a strong cold front dropping south into the region.
As the front drifts southward, the FOX Forecast Center predicts it will come to a halt by midweek with daily showers and thunderstorms remaining before fizzling away.
As this occurs, an upper-level area of circulation will move out of northern Mexico, bringing moisture from the Gulf of America, which will result in slow-moving thunderstorms across states like Texas.
Popular cities such as Houston, Corpus Christi, and Jackson, Mississippi, are all included in the second-highest flood risk at some point this week.
These locations could see rain totals of 5 to 8 inches through Tuesday, as the nasty weather is expected to last through mid-week.

Due to this, the NHC has placed an Area to Watch in the northwestern portion of the Gulf of America.
Houston and Corpus Christi are under a Level 3 out of 4 threat through Tuesday, as flood watches expand.
Despite this, forecasters are keeping an eye on the low chances of Tropical Storm Arthur developing, but a dangerous flash flood risk remains.
Depending on the track and timing of the potent area of circulation, forecasters may still be tracking flash flooding through Friday, as some models show the system moving south into next weekend.

Miguel Rojas gave the Dodgers a late lead Monday night.
And this time, the Dodgers bullpen didn’t squander it.
In a 4-3 win over the Rays at Dodger Stadium, the team overcame an early three-run deficit on a Kyle Tucker home run, took their first lead of the night on Rojas’ go-ahead, pinch-hit blast to left field in the seventh, then hung behind three scoreless innings from their previously scuffling bullpen, bouncing back from their first series loss in a month this past weekend with a narrow victory to open this six-game homestand.
Rojas’ home run was the difference, with the veteran utilityman taking Rays left-hander Steven Matz deep with a swing that was –– aesthetically, at least –– reminiscent of his heroic Game 7 homer in last year’s World Series.

But the bullpen offered the most encouraging signs.
Entering Monday, the unit had a 7.51 ERA this month, good for the worst mark in the majors in June.

But after a six-inning, three-run start from Eric Lauer that was aided heavily by the Dodgers’ defense, the club got scoreless frames from Kyle Hurt in the seventh (who worked around a two-out single), Will Klein and Alex Vesia (who stranded a runner at third in the eighth) and Tanner Scott (who picked up his eighth save in the ninth).
What it means
After dropping two of three to the White Sox to end their recent road trip, the Dodgers (46-27) got back in the win column Monday to improve to 8-6 in June and 22-9 since May 13.
They also got a leg up in this series over the Rays (41-28), who have cooled since a red-hot May and slipped to second in the American League East.
In the National League West, the Dodgers are back to eight games up on the San Diego Padres.
Who’s hot
Clearly, Dodgers fans are still lukewarm on Tucker –– evidenced by him getting half the All-Star votes of Andy Pages, and 100,000 less than the currently injured Teoscar Hernández.
On Monday, however, he finally showed more of the all-around skill set that prompted the Dodgers to give him a $240 million contract.

First, erased the team’s early 3-0 deficit by hitting a three-run blast in the bottom of the second, giving him just his second home run at Dodger Stadium this year
Then, in the third, he prevented the Dodgers from falling behind again, cutting down a runner at home plate with a perfect throw from right field to preserve the 3-3 tie and end the inning.
Overall, Tucker went 2-for-4 –– albeit, with a key strikeout in the sixth with a couple runners on base, and a flyout in the eighth with a runner on second –– and is now hitting .239 on the season with a .725 OPS.
Who’s not
The Rays’ batted ball luck.

Though the Tampa Bay lineup struck out just seven times on Monday, their ability to put the ball in play was negated by strong Dodgers’ defense.
Tucker’s outfield assist was the biggest moment. But there was also a key double-play at the end of Lauer’s start in the sixth (helping him complete a quality start that gives him a 3.22 ERA in four starts with the Dodgers) and several nifty moments from Max Muncy at third and Mookie Betts at shortstop, including a grounder Betts fielded to lead off the ninth that sent him ranging far to his right as he made the play.
Up next
The Dodgers and Rays continue this series on Tuesday night, when Justin Wrobleski (7-2, 2.95 ERA) will pitch on four days’ rest against Tampa Bay right-hander Drew Rasmussen (6-2, 2.71 ERA).
