UFC White House predictions: Freedom 250 odds, picks, best bets Sunday

An event unlike any other, Sunday night on the White House’s South Lawn there will be seven UFC fights to feast on.

Politics aside, this should be one of the most bizarre, intriguing and fun events in UFC history.

The Post will be there in full force, and the event is expected to feature a rather star-studded cast of celebrities and politicians in full tow for a highly selective group to watch live in person.

Of note, these fights will be held outside underneath a covering that was built within the last few weeks and could be fought in the rain and definitely in temperatures nearing 90 degrees with high humidity.

All those elements could affect the fighters.

Below, we break down all seven UFC fights on the White House South Lawn with predictions and best bets.

UFC Freedom 250 predictions

Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje

Unification of the lightweight strap, Ilia Topuria appears to be one of, if not the most powerful, punchers at lower weight classes that we’ve ever seen.

Topuria boasts brutal knockouts of Max Holloway, Alexander Volkanovski, and Charles Oliveira, but what everyone sleeps on is his grappling.

The Spainyard actually came into the UFC as a jiu-jitsu fighter, and he’s extremely capable there. If he wants to go that route; Topuria even submitted grappler Bryce Mitchell in 2022.

Justin Gaethje is a massive underdog, coming in at +390 odds at DraftKings, which I actually think is plenty of respect considering Topuria has literally been untouchable in his career.

If Jon Jones is the Michael Jordan of mixed martial arts, Illia Topuria might be the Kobe Bryant.

I’ll take his moneyline for parlays, and by submission at high odds of +600 at FanDuel, as that would be his path of least resistance.

If you’re more risk-averse, target Topuria wins, and the fight starts Round 2 at +110 at DraftKings.

THE PLAY: Small bet on Ilia Topuria wins by submission (+600, FanDuel) | Topuria wins and fight starts Round 2 (+110, DraftKings)

Ilia Topuria hits as hard as anyone in UFC history. Zuffa LLC

Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane

Alex Pereira used to fight at 185 pounds; he now weighs 240 pounds and competes two weight classes higher than he was previously.

He battles Ciryl Gane at heavyweight for the interim championship, with Tom Aspinall seemingly rebelling against the promotion and unhappy with Dana White.

Pereira opened at +150 odds when this fight was announced, but they have crashed all the way down to -105 as he’s one of the most popular UFC fighters.

This fight is between two strikers and is a five-round title fight, but oddsmakers are projecting an extended bout that goes Over 2.5 rounds (-160).

That’s fine. I expect Gane to land many kicks and try to point-fight Pereira, but Pereira is a nasty kicker in his own right and is one of the best leg kickers in MMA history.

I’ll take Pereira to win a decision at long odds, but there’s not a ton of value on this fight.

THE PLAY: Pereira by decision (+650, DraftKings)

Alex Pereira is now moving up two weight classes. AP Photo/Manuel Balce Ceneta

Sean O’Malley vs. Aiemann Zahabi

Sean O’Malley is America’s biggest star. Aiemann Zahabi is a step back in competition for him.

O’Malley should be able to style on Zahabi on the feet, and while the Canadian has made it clear that he is going to try to grapple here I cannot imagine he’s successful doing so considering the American has been stopping takedowns from Merab Dvalishivili and Song Yadong recently.

Target O’Malley to win moneyline for parlays, but I don’t like his KO or decision prices.

THE PLAY: O’Malley moneyline for parlays

Josh Hokit vs. Derrick Lewis

Thirteen-year age gap between these two, and Derrick Lewis has looked horrific in his recent fights.

Josh Hokit has an elite American collegiate wrestling base, and while he’s undersized compared to Lewis, he should win this easily.

When Lewis loses, he looks non-competitive, as he did last time out. Sign me up for Hokit moneyline in parlays and given it’s a three-round fight, go for him to win a decision.

THE PLAY: Hokit moneyline for parlays | Small bet on Hokit by decision (+837, Kalshi)

Sean O’Malley has a solid matchup for him at the White House. Getty Images

Mauricio Ruffy vs. Michael Chandler

No one believes in Michael Chandler in this fight as a +525 underdog. That’s fair, he’s lost three straight five of his last six.

Chandler has become a bit of a punching bag on the feet, but he should know that his only path to victory is wrestling.

We’ve seen Mauricio Ruffy taken down before so I’m not taking a winner here. Instead, I’ll take Chandler to score at least one takedown (0.5, -175).

THE PLAY: Over 0.5 takedowns (-175, DraftKings)

Bo Nickal vs. Kyle Daukaus

Bo Nickal is an elite wrestler, while Kyle Daukaus is a well-rounded improving fighter who has multiple submission wins to his resume.

Daukaus is liable to be taken down and laid on top of by a collegiate star wrestler from Penn State like Nickal — although the sweat and humidity outside gives me concerns about proactive grapplers.

I am not sure who wins this fight, with the most likely outcome being Nickal via grappling.

I’ll target Over 1.5 rounds (-115, theScore Bet)

THE PLAY: Over 1.5 rounds (-115, theScore Bet)

Diego Lopes vs. Steve Garcia

The UFC loves Diego Lopes giving him this spot as the curtain jerker for one of the biggest cards in promotion history.

My issue with Lopes is he’s hittable on the feet when striking. Lopes is powerful in his own right and has a good jiu-jitsu base, but he doesn’t really use it unless forced to and Steve Garcia is never looking to get takedowns.

I think Garcia is a nightmare matchup for many in the UFC at featherweight and I’ve seen too many moments where Lopes has struggled for long moments in the octagon.

Lopes pulled a rabit out of his hat when he defeated Jean Silva last September.

I think this is a war, but a longer fight that does not end in the first round. I lean toward Garcia as a slight underdog.

THE PLAY: Fight goes the distance (+194, FanDuel) | Over 1.5 rounds (-130, Bet365) Garcia by decision (+525, Caesars Sportsbook)

Seth Rogen Says He Hasn’t Spoken to James Franco in ‘a Long Time’ and Has ‘No Plans’ to Work With Him Again

It doesn’t sound like Seth Rogen and James Franco will be sharing the screen again anytime soon.

Speaking with The New York Times, Rogen reflected on where things stand with his former collaborator, making it clear that he hasn’t been in touch with Franco for years and isn’t looking to restart their working relationship.

When asked about Franco following the sexual misconduct allegations that surfaced against the actor, Rogen said the situation is more complicated than he wants to discuss publicly.

“I honestly think the nuance of it is too personal for me to get into right now. It is a very personal thing. There’s the public-facing side of it, which I’ve spoken about, and I have the same stance publicly that I’ve had, and I think the proof is in the pudding — I have not worked with him in years. But the personal side of it is just so nuanced, and it involves people that I don’t know if I should be dragging into this. I don’t know what I would benefit from getting deeply into it. Nothing has changed since the last time I talked about all this, and I haven’t worked with him in a really long time and I have no plans to.”

Pressed on whether the two still keep in contact, Rogen’s answer was short and direct: “I haven’t talked to him in a long time, no.”

For moviegoers, the split marked the end of one of the defining comedy partnerships of the 2000s and early 2010s. After first crossing paths on Paul Feig‘s short-lived but beloved Freaks and Geeks, Rogen and Franco reunited for a string of fan favorites, including Knocked Up, Pineapple Express, This Is the End and The Interview.

Their professional relationship faded after Franco faced allegations of sexually exploitative behavior in 2018. Five women — four of them former acting students — accused the actor of misconduct, and two later filed a class action lawsuit alleging that he “engaged in widespread inappropriate and sexually charged behavior towards female students by sexualizing their power as a teacher and an employer by dangling the opportunity for roles in their projects.” The case was settled in 2021 for $2.23 million.

Rogen has been sending the same message for several years now. During a 2021 interview with The Sunday Times, the actor admitted he regretted earlier remarks suggesting he might collaborate with Franco again, making it clear that a reunion was no longer in the cards.

“I also look back to that interview in 2018 where I comment that I would keep working with James, and the truth is that I have not and I do not plan to right now,” Rogen said.

Franco later revealed that the two had fallen out of touch. Reflecting on their relationship in a 2024 interview with Variety, he said, “No. I haven’t talked to Seth. I love Seth, we had 20 great years together, but I guess it’s over. And not for lack of trying. I’ve told him how much he’s meant to me.”

Yoshinobu Yamamoto has another Dodgers’ memorable moment but plenty more in store

Yoshinobu Yamamoto was right there.

Again.

Three outs.

Three outs from history.

Three outs from a no-hitter.

Once again, Yamamoto couldn’t get them.

He made a mistake and Tristan Peters punished him for it, launching his down-the-middle fastball into the right field stands at Rate Field in Chicago.

The Dodgers held on to beat the White Sox, 7-1, but like the pitch that was detonated by Peters, the no-hitter was gone.

The scene was reminiscent of one from September of last year, when Yamamoto was one out from no-hitting the Orioles, only to give up a home run to Jackson Holliday.

Yamamoto smiled when he was reminded of that in a postgame interview with SportsNet LA.

“Baseball,” he said in Japanese, “is hard.”

Following the home run by Peters, Yamamoto retired Edgar Quero before he was replaced by Alex Vesia, who registered the final two outs.

Yamamoto’s final line: 8 ⅓ innings, seven strikeouts, no walks, one hit.

In time, memories of this game should become something Yamamoto can reflect on without any feelings of regret.

Based on how he pitched Saturday, and how he has pitched a number of times this season, he will be positioned again to pitch a no-hitter.

He pitched a no-hitter in each of his last two seasons in the Japanese league, and it’s really just a matter of time that he achieves the same level of mastery to do something like that in the major leagues. What he did against the White Sox wasn’t a fluke.

Yamamoto has a half-dozen pitches he can throw at any count, and what chance does a hitter have against him when his fastball is humming the way it was Saturday?

“It’s not just the amount of [different] pitches,” pitching coach Mark Prior said. “It’s the ability to throw them in four different quadrants and have pretty good execution and efficiency with it. That’s what makes him special.”

Was he ever.

The White Sox have a top-five offense in the American League, but Yamamoto made them look as if they were the Angels.

He was always a step or two ahead of them.

“He’s surgical with all his pitches,” Prior said. “Gives different looks. Messes with timing. Attacks the outside part of the plate. I think from a hitter’s perspective, it’s gotta be really hard to zero in on a specific pitch or location. He missed his location a few times today, but for the most part he was living on the edge of the zone the entire time.”

Yamamoto threw cutters on the outside border of the plate to left-handed hitters, sinkers to the opposite side to right-handed hitters. He didn’t have a three-ball count until the fifth inning, and when he found himself in one, he flipped in a curveball for a strike.

He was perfect until the eighth inning, when Chase Meidroth reached base on a fielding error by shortstop Mookie Betts.

“Just a routine ground ball that I missed,” Betts told reporters. “Not making any excuses.”

Yamamoto seemed unaffected by the mistake.

While sitting on the bench between innings, Yamamoto patted Betts on his rear as he walked by. He then went back to reviewing his notebook.

In recent weeks, Yamamoto had been building up to this kind of performance. Since giving up five runs in 6 ⅓ innings in a loss to the Giants on May 12, he is 4-1 with a 1.01 ERA over five starts.

The last time he pitched, he threw seven perfect innings after giving up a couple of first-inning runs to the Angels.

“I think, obviously, every time he takes the mound, we feel he’s got a pretty good chance to do something special,” Prior said.

What he did in October was a testament to that.

Taking down the final 2 ⅔ innings of the World Series a day after he was the winning pitcher in Game 6, Yamamoto has already produced some of the franchise’s most memorable pitching performances in recent decades.

But there will be more.

Germany vs. Curacao prediction: World Cup odds, picks, best bets Sunday

Curaçao, the smallest country ever to qualify for a World Cup with a population just a tick over 150,000, will get a baptism by fire in its tournament debut Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Wave will take on four-time champions Germany at NRG Stadium in Houston in what is projected to be the most lopsided of any match in the group stage.

Curaçao is 40/1 to win the match, the same odds that Colombia has to win the whole tournament.

A win for the tiny island nation would be the biggest upset in recent World Cup history, easily trumping Saudi Arabia’s shocker over Argentina in 2022.

Saudi Arabia was around 22/1 to win that tilt.

Germany vs. Curaçao odds, prediction

One of the interesting wrinkles with the new format of the World Cup is the game within the game.

Since eight third-place teams will advance from the group stage, goal difference will be critical and that means that there is an incentive for massive underdogs like Curaçao to defend with their lives until the final whistle, even if it’s 3-0.

In fact, keeping Germany to three or even four goals would be a massive win for The Blue Wave, as it would give them some hope of advancing.

germany-vs-curacao-pick-odds-world-cup

So we can expect Dick Advocaat, the oldest manager in the history of the World Cup, to have his team park a big blue bus for the entire match.

Curaçao will need to be disciplined to keep Germany to a respectable scoreline, and that means being very careful when it comes to picking opportunities to counter-attack. Don’t expect the ball to cross into Germany’s half much in this one.

Germany’s manager, Julian Nagelsmann, is not one for playing things close to the vest.

Get the lowdown on the Best USA Sports Betting Sites and Apps

Nagelsmann, who is 40 years Advocaat’s junior, likes his team to be on the front foot and pressing the opposing defense high up the pitch. When they’re on the ball, Germany wants to overload the middle of the field, drawing the defense out of its shape.

Curaçao may be able to relieve that pressure by just hoofing the ball up the pitch and making Die Mannschaft go get it and restart their cycle, but that can only last for so long.

At some point, Germany will overrun Curaçao. While Die Mannschaft may not have the all-world striker that other juggernauts have in their ranks, they do have several players who are elite at timing runs in behind the defense. That’s the perfect way to break a team that is parking the bus.

It’s a brilliant story, Curaçao getting to the World Cup, but the first chapter is not going to be pretty.

The Play: Germany -3.5 goals (-112, FanDuel)

‘Sopranos’ star Joe Pantoliano offers mental health advice

Joe Pantoliano, aka “Joey Pants,” has a marvelous mnemonic for mental health.

“You need three things — masturbation, medication and meditation,” he exclusively told Page Six at the Tribeca Festival 30th anniversary premiere of “Bound.”

The “Sopranos” alum further explained that he takes a “wonderful supplement,” doesn’t do meditation and “my wife [Nancy Sheppard] takes care of [the masturbation].”

Instead of medication, Pantoliano regularly takes walks, explaining that “when I went to McLean Hospital, the brain hospital, they told me that a brisk 15-minute walk is equivalent to like 90 milligrams of Prozac, so I walk every day.”

Pantoliano added that for years he suffered from addictions.

“Success,” was one of his addictions, he explained, “and then sex and then alcohol.”

“Finding things that make this feeling go away. I thought if I could become successful, then this feeling that was in the pit of my soul would go away.”

Instead, Pantoliano said that he “crashed and burned, didn’t die, and I guess discovered my shortcomings; they weren’t terrible defects, they were, you know, just mental illness.”

The “Matrix” star, 74, has long been open about his mental health struggles.

Last year, he told Page Six that he suffered from depression for close to a decade before his diagnosis and would self-medicate with “seven deadly symptoms.”

“Alcohol, what was available, women, you know, risky behavior, act first and then ask questions second,” he explained.

Pantoliano, who was diagnosed with clinical depression in 2007 and has since written two books about his mental health issues, founded an organization in 2009 called “No Kidding, Me Too!” which aims to remove the stigma surrounding mental health.

Meanwhile, the Emmy winner confessed to being slightly gobsmacked to be celebrating “Bound” all these years after its release.

“I did not expect to be alive,” he admitted about how he felt while making “Bound.” ©Columbia Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection

“I had no idea that I’d be talking to anybody 30 years later. I did not expect to be alive, you know,” he shared. “The fact that this movie is being celebrated. I had no idea that I would be lucky enough.

“I didn’t know how talented the Wachowskis were,” he said, referring to writer/director siblings Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski. “You know, it was a good part, and I wanted to have a good part in a movie, and I was hoping that it would be good, so it was very naive of me.”

The noir thriller also stars Gina Gershon, Jennifer Tilly and Chris Meloni.

Switzerland voters reject proposal to cap country’s population at 10 million

ZURICH — Switzerland on Sunday rejected a referendum proposal to cap its population at 10 million, a projection showed, as voters prioritized economic stability and the ‌country’s ties with the European Union over immigration concerns.

A preliminary projection published by national broadcaster SRF indicated about 45% of voters were in favor of the proposal and 55% against.

The referendum, which was likened to Britain’s 2016 Brexit vote, had put businesses on edge due to concerns it could lead to the end of free movement of labor between Switzerland and the EU, its main trading partner.

The proposal championed by the right-wing Swiss People’s Party stipulated that the population must not exceed 10 million before 2050, and that if it did so for two years, Switzerland should scrap its freedom of movement accord with the EU.

Urs Bieri from polling firm GFS Bern said the vote failed because although many people were worried about the rising population, they were not convinced by the plan and worried about the possible side-effects.

“From the very beginning it has been presented as the chaos initiative. Voters were worried about negative consequences for Switzerland’s relationship with the EU and for the labor market,” he said.

“People are also worried about things like having enough care and health workers. Also there’s a feeling that in the current international environment it’s not sensible for a small country to do this,” Bieri added.

Close outcome had been expected

The Swiss population already stands at 9.1 ‌million and has grown far more quickly than in the surrounding EU. Foreigners make up nearly 28% of the Swiss population, which official projections forecast will reach 10 million by the early 2040s.

Polls had forecast a close outcome, and the result tallied with a final survey by pollsters GFS Bern, which had predicted the proposal would be narrowly rejected.

Still, the substantial backing for the measure sits alongside growing support for policies aimed at curbing immigration across Europe. Campaign posters proclaimed only 10% of incomers were skilled workers and that asylum seekers were more likely to be rapists.

Opponents dubbed the plan a recipe for chaos because of the upheaval it would cause for Swiss companies, workers and Bern’s ties with the EU.

They also questioned whether it was wise to clash with Brussels after a bruising 2025, when President Trump slapped the highest US tariffs in Europe on Swiss goods.

Patrick Leisibach, a migration expert at think tank Avenir Suisse, said economic arguments had played a role, with people wary of how a “yes” vote would affect their daily lives.

“They wonder ‘who is going to serve me at the restaurant?’ and ‘who is going to care for me when I get old?’ It’s more about personal welfare which made people reject this initiative,” Leisibach said.

Tyra Banks Sues Netflix Over ‘America’s Next Top Model’ Documentary, Claims Interview Was “Stripped of Context”

Tyra Banks is putting Netflix under the microscope.

The former America’s Next Top Model host filed a defamation lawsuit Saturday, alleging that the streamer heavily manipulated her appearance in Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, the recent documentary series revisiting the hit competition show’s legacy and many of its long-running controversies.

The three-part documentary explores both ANTM‘s cultural impact and the criticism that has followed it over the years, including allegations from former contestants involving an on-set sexual assault, cosmetic surgery pressure and the show’s infamous blackface photo shoot.

Banks participated in the project, saying she wanted to have an honest conversation about the franchise’s highs and lows. But according to the lawsuit, her interview was ultimately “stripped of context and reassembled to support a false and defamatory narrative unrelated to what she actually expressed.”

“The false narrative the producers constructed — through selective editing, deliberate omission, and surgical manipulation of continuous footage — included that Ms. Banks knowingly allowed a contestant to be sexually assaulted on her show, exploited that contestant’s trauma for ratings, and then could not even remember it when asked,” the lawsuit states. “That narrative about Ms. Banks is a complete fabrication — one that Netflix streamed to a global audience of millions.”

Netflix has thus far declined to comment.

According to the complaint, Banks sat for a 3 1/2-hour interview and placed no restrictions on the subjects that could be discussed because she believed audiences deserved a candid look back at the show’s complicated history. The lawsuit says only 16 minutes of that conversation appeared in the finished series.

Banks further alleges that producers edited the interview to make it seem as though she was responding to claims from former contestant Shandi Sullivan, who says in the documentary that she was sexually assaulted during production of the show’s second season.

“Defendants edited the Netflix Series to make it appear that Ms. Banks knew she was being asked about a sexual assault and was intentionally trying to evade the topic,” the lawsuit states. “Ms. Banks respects Ms. Sullivan’s perspective and the courage it takes for Ms. Sullivan and others to speak up.”

“Ms. Banks wishes somebody involved with the Netflix Series would have told her what Ms. Sullivan shared with them,” the suit continues. “But they deliberately chose not to.”

Banks is seeking damages for “loss of future business opportunities, loss of business income, other compounding losses as will be shown at trial,” though the filing does not list a specific amount.

The lawsuit also claims the documentary has caused “significant harm and damage to the personal brand she has worked for decades to build and maintain throughout the world,” alleging that online ratings for her Sydney-based ice cream company, SMiZE & DREAM, have dropped since the series premiered.

America’s Next Top Model debuted in 2003 and went on to air for 24 seasons across UPN, The CW and VH1 before ending in 2018. Notably, Banks also said in the documentary that she would be open to producing a 25th season, though whether the franchise will ever return remains an open question.

“Every other conversation about ANTM’s legacy — including the candid reflection Ms. Banks came prepared to have — is now drowned out by an accusation she was never given the chance to answer,” the suit states.
