A total of 694 motorists were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol during special enforcement drives conducted by the Hyderabad and Cyberabad Traffic Police over the weekend.
Hyderabad Traffic Police detected 394 cases during a two-day special drive conducted on June 26 and 27. Of those booked, 326 were riding two-wheelers, 30 were driving three-wheelers and 38 were driving four-wheelers and other vehicles.
The Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels recorded among the offenders included 88 cases in the 30 to 50 mg/100 ml range, 175 cases in the 51 to 100 mg/100 ml range, 62 cases in the 101 to 150 mg/100 ml range.
Meanwhile, the Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 300 motorists during a weekend special drive. The offenders included 259 two-wheeler riders, six three-wheeler drivers, 34 four-wheeler drivers and one heavy vehicle driver.
Among those booked in Cyberabad, 245 had BAC levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, 30 recorded between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while 25 had BAC levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.
Police said all offenders would be produced before the court. Cyberabad Traffic Police also warned that motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol and causing fatal accidents would be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine.
The Cyberabad Traffic Police also said that between June 22 and June 27, courts disposed of 251 drunk driving cases, with all offenders being fined.
