A 35-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was booked after Hyderabad Traffic Police caught him allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol while transporting six children to school in Goshamahal on Wednesday, June 24.
The accused, Shaik Ismail, was intercepted during a special enforcement drive targeting school buses and auto-rickshaws conducted by Goshamahal Traffic Police near the Traffic Training Institute.
According to the police, the auto-rickshaw (TS12UA9230), was carrying six students of a private school in Abids when it was stopped at about 8.37 a.m. Officers suspected that the driver was intoxicated and subjected him to a breath analyser test. The test reportedly showed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level of 60 mg per 100 ml, confirming that he was operating the commercial vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
Police immediately secured the vehicle and ensured the safety of the children before handing the driver over to Goshamahal police for legal action.
A case was registered against Shaik Ismail under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act.
Traffic police said the special drive was conducted as part of efforts to ensure the safety of schoolchildren and warned that strict action would continue against drivers found violating traffic laws, particularly those entrusted with transporting students.
