Costco shoppers are buying-up boxes of Tim Tam cookies

Costco shoppers are flocking to the shelves over a legendary Aussie snack that has finally touched down in American stores.

The “Australian Oreo” is sparking a wild Costco frenzy. Tim Tams, the iconic Australian cookie, have been stocked in Costco’s across the U.S. and American shoppers have been hoarding.

The Original Tim Tam is a triple-layered threat: two malted chocolate biscuits sandwiching a creamy cocoa filling, all covered in a thin layer of textured chocolate. While the classic is the gold standard, they also offer varieties like White Chocolate, Mangoes and Cream and Chocolate Mint.

At $13.99 a box, you get six sleeves — 66 cookies in total — but even that isn’t enough for the ravenous Costco crowds. Customers are loading up their carts with multiple boxes, creating a frenzy that is taking over the aisles.

The love for Tim Tams is not just about the taste, but the ritual. American customers are quickly learning the art of the “Tim Tam Slam.” As one Reddit user raved: “My Australian friend said to drink your coffee through them like a straw.”

The “Slam” is when you bite off diagonal corners, submerge one end in your hot beverage, and suck the liquid through the cookie like a straw. Once the hot coffee or tea melts the inner cream, you then eat the cookie before it dissolves.

In Australia, where they were created by Arnott’s in 1964, the cookies are a national treasure. They are imported from Sydney and are known for the “Slam.”

The cookies being sold in the US are popular and still are not the original recipe as the AUS version. The box of Tim Tam available at Costco lists ingredients that include artificial color additives such as Red 40, Yellow 6, and Blue 1, which aren’t listed on the ingredient list for the Tim Tam cookies sold there.

The Tim Tam Slam craze has even reached celebs. Aussie actress Isla Fisher recently gave Kelly Clarkson a masterclass on the technique on the Kelly Clarkson Show. And Sarah Snook, Australian actress in Succession, also gave a tutorial to Jimmy Fallon when she was on the Tonight Show, the two dipping their Tim Tams in tea.

The Tim Tam Slam trend reached virality on TikTok, with users sharing their “Aussie culture” and posting tutorials on how to properly do a “Slam.”

One Redditor bought 8-9 cases “because they’re the BEST store-bought cookie ever. I’m willing to die on that hill,” they wrote. Another said to Australian travelers: “Highly recommend a second suitcase so you can take back as many varieties as possible and get your friends hooked.”

Costco is not only introducing international treasures, but also a new checkout system to improve customer experience, with new scanning technology and digital membership cards that have improved checkout speed up to 20%.

UConn coach Dan Hurley wants to face Duke at White House after UFC extravaganza

UFC Freedom 250 has sparked inspiration for one college basketball coach.

Sunday’s UFC card at the White House was a major financial success, despite being a logistical nightmare with UFC President Dana White telling reporters that he will not do any other outdoor events.

UConn two-time national champion coach and known MMA fan Dan Hurley attended the event, and later floated the idea of a potential heavyweight clash at the White House to TMZ’s Charlie Cotton.

Dan Hurley says that he would love for his UConn team to play at the White House Tmz Sports

“That would be good, man,” Hurley told TMZ with a laugh when asked about a potential college basketball game held at the White House.

“I think Uconn should definitely be in it, maybe Uconn-Duke.”

Many would be surprised to even consider an outdoor basketball game, although it’s not a foreign concept.

The Carrier Classic began in 2011 and featured teams competing on an aircraft carrier. The first two teams, North Carolina and Michigan State, played on the USS Carl Vinson.

North Carolina beat Michigan State 67-55, but due to the limited space, attendance was always low.

None of the Carrier Classic games ever exceeded crowds of 10,000.

While only around 4,000 invited guests watched the UFC fight up close, over 85,000 people flocked to The Ellipse just outside the White House to watch it.

If a basketball game were to take place at the White House, there would likely be a large attendance, especially if it featured a heavyweight matchup between Duke and UConn.

Both teams are elite college basketball programs, and the Huskies upset the Blue Devils last year in the Elite Eight in an all-time classic.

They will meet again this upcoming season in Las Vegas.

If they agreed to a White House game, it would be an unforgettable moment for college basketball.

New mRNA flu vaccine could be next as FDA panel weighs historic shot

WASHINGTON — U.S. health advisers are debating a new kind of flu vaccine Thursday, the first made with the same mRNA technology that was key to ending the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moderna is seeking Food and Drug Administration approval of its new shot, dubbed mFlusiva, as an option for people 50 and older.

The FDA advisory committee meeting is a step toward a final decision ahead of the winter flu season.

Tens of thousands of Americans die from influenza every year, and older adults are among the most vulnerable.

There are various types of flu vaccines already available in the U.S., including three specifically recommended for people 65 and older.

But vaccines made with the Nobel Prize-winning mRNA technology are faster to manufacture than other types — something experts say might help if the shape-shifting flu virus mutates in a way that requires suddenly brewing new doses to match.

In a study of 40,000 people age 50 and older, Moderna’s mRNA vaccine reduced flu cases by about 27% compared to those given another routinely used vaccine brand.

Ahead of the meeting, FDA published a favorable review of that data and reported no safety concerns.

Moderna is seeking full approval for the vaccine’s use in the 50- to 64-year-old population — along with authorization for use in those 65 and older while it conducts additional testing.

Earlier this year, Moderna’s data was at the center of a highly unusual public dispute as a then-top FDA official blocked the company’s application for its first-of-its-kind shot.

The embattled vaccine chief at the time, Dr. Vinay Prasad, said the company should have compared its shot to a high-dose flu vaccine recommended for seniors rather than a standard-dose brand.

It was a sign of FDA’s heightened vaccine scrutiny under Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Moderna challenged that decision, noting that FDA staff had approved that main study’s design and citing a separate, smaller study comparing the mRNA shot with a high-dose vaccine for seniors.

Days after the spat, the FDA accepted Moderna’s application.

The expert panel also will assess that smaller study, which found Moderna’s shot generated flu-fighting antibodies similarly to a high-dose senior shot.

The FDA’s initial review noted the new vaccine lacks data on very frail older adults and those with weak immune systems.

Ebola cases increase almost 40% in a week as death toll passes 200

DAKAR, Senegal — The Ebola outbreak in Congo and Uganda has claimed more than 200 lives in its first month and is the worst known outbreak at this stage, with up to 35,000 suspected potential contacts, Africa’s Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said on Thursday.

With 894 confirmed cases so far, the current outbreak is three times worse than a previous outbreak in Uganda in 2000, which had 281 cases at the same point, said Dr. Wessam Mankoula, a medical epidemiologist at Africa CDC.

The latest number of cases is believed to be higher because the outbreak was confirmed on May 15, weeks after it was suspected to have begun. The number of cases has increased 38% since last week and is now in 32 health zones across eastern Congo, said Mankoula.

The outbreak is caused by the rare Bundibugyo virus, which has no approved vaccines or treatments and was not tested for in the early days. The more common Zaire virus, for which there is a vaccine, was responsible for most of Congo’s past 16 outbreaks of the disease.

So far 74 patients have recovered from the disease across eastern Congo and Uganda. Experimental treatments like monoclonal antibodies are being developed for Bundibugyo.

The outbreak is concentrated in Congo’s eastern province of Ituri, which accounts for more than 90% of the cases. Cases have also been recorded in the North Kivu and South Kivu provinces and have spread across the border to Uganda, where 19 confirmed cases have been reported and two people have died.

Contact tracing remains an issue due to the area’s remoteness and ongoing insecurity in Ituri province, Dr. Mankoula said.

“For those 800 confirmed cases, we should have between 17,000 to 35,000 contacts that should be in our contact list,” said Mankoula. Currently only around 4,000 contacts have been tracked and are being evaluated, less than 15%.

“We are still far from controlling the situation of this outbreak,” said Mankoula.

Nearly a million people have been displaced by years of conflict in Ituri, according to the U.N. humanitarian office, making contact tracing difficult as people flee attacks or move frequently in the vast province with dense forests, poor roads and remote villages that can take days to reach.

Tracing is also difficult among the thousands of miners who regularly move among remote sites in the mineral-rich region.

Of the over $900 million pledged to fight the outbreak, only $90 million has been released to help fight the outbreak, further complicating the ongoing crisis, according to Mankoula.

Africa CDC estimates it needs 540 personnel to fight the outbreak and so far they only have 84.

“We’re keeping our fingers crossed those new pledges will be fast tracked, and we’ll be following up with different member states and different partners about their commitment to turn those pledges into actual money released to their affected countries or partners,” said Mankoula.

‘Skeleton Bridge’ where bungee jumper was thrown 130 feet to her death set to be blown up

The 130-foot-high bridge where a young student was thrown to her death without a bungee rope attached is set to be blown up to prevent further tragedies, Brazilian authorities have announced.

Barriers and trenches are already surrounding the so-called “Skeleton Bridge,” an abandoned railway viaduct in Limeira, São Paulo state, where Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, died Saturday in an unthinkable tragedy that was caught on camera, reported CNN Brazil.

Authorities on Monday called on the federal government to implode and demolish the structure, echoing a desperate plea by the dead student’s family.

De Freitas’ uncle, Luis, previously said in a letter to a local politician that he was spreading “the word about the bridge … so that it gets demolished as soon as possible,” Brazilian journalist Paulo Mathias reported.

The death of the student, an aspiring physical education teacher, was caught in horrific videos that showed instructors picking her up over their heads and throwing her off — with the rope left at the top, unattached.

Trenches had previously been dug around the bridge in 2024 to prevent vehicles and thrillseekers from getting close, but they were illegally filled in by trespassers, according to local reports.

The city of Limeira this week committed to reopening the containment ditches in the short term while it waits for demolition crews.

Three men have been charged with homicide in the rope-jumping death of a woman who plunged more than 130 feet off a bridge in Limeira, Brazil.

Because the bridge was owned by a now-defunct railway company, no one has claimed responsibility for dealing with it.

No exact timeline for the demolition has been given.

Three instructors have been charged in relation to de Freitas’s death and are being held in pre-detention.

First round of US-Iran talks in flux after canceled signing ceremony

Plans are up in the air over Friday’s planned first round of US-Iran nuclear talks after Washington and Tehran called off a formal signing ceremony.

A source familiar with the Iranian delegation’s plans said they will determine in the coming hours whether the Tehran team will be in Switzerland for the talks.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif — whose nation leads mediations — on Thursday canceled his trip to Switzerland, where the talks are set to take place. It remains unclear whether another Pakistani official — such as Field Marshal Asim Munir, who has played the largest role in the mediations — will take his place.

A time has not yet been confirmed, and many other details — including the roster of individuals involved — remain elusive, The Post has learned from officials in multiple countries involved.

The hubbub comes after President Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday signed the US-Iran memorandum of understanding to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and kick off nuclear negotiations over a 60-day period, scrapping the Friday ceremony.

For now, US, Iranian, Pakistani and Qatari leaders are still scrambling to pull off the event, with no plans to cancel the talks as a whole.

Mitchell Robinson riding tricked-out truck at Knicks parade

Mitchell Robinson made sure he arrived at the Knicks’ championship parade in style.

The Knicks center showed up Thursday in his tricked-out white pickup truck with orange interior, bringing one of his most recognizable off-court passions into the middle of New York’s long-awaited title celebration.

Robinson showed up behind the wheel and then had someone else driving once the parade kicked off as he parted in the bed of the truck.

The customized ride was hard to miss as Robinson arrived for the parade, with the bright orange look fitting naturally into a day filled with Knicks colors across Lower Manhattan.

Asked why he wanted the truck involved, Robinson said it felt right for both the occasion and who he is.

“Because of the orange theme — I thought it would be good for the truck and also, you know, my personality,” Robinson said.

It was a fitting parade entrance for one of the Knicks’ most distinctive characters.

Robinson, 28, has become known around the team not just for his rebounding and rim protection, but also for his love of trucks, country music and a personality that stands out from the usual New York athlete mold.

The Pensacola native has long leaned into that side of himself, and Thursday’s parade gave him the perfect stage for it.

Robinson played an important role in the Knicks’ title run, even if his work did not always show up in the loudest parts of the box score.

The 7-footer gave New York size, defense and physicality throughout the postseason, doing much of the dirty work inside as the Knicks battled their way to the franchise’s first NBA championship in 53 years.

He gave the Knicks important size and rebounding against a Spurs frontcourt led by Victor Wembanyama as New York closed out the series.

Thursday, though, Robinson’s biggest contribution was impossible to miss before the parade even got going.

The truck matched the moment.
