The South Carolina court clerk who torpedoed Alex Murdaugh’s double murder case offered a ridiculous excuse for why Murdaugh’s lawsuit against her should be tossed.
Rebecca “Becky” Hill, the disgraced clerk in Colleton County, said she should benefit from “quasi-judicial immunity” and therefore shouldn’t have to face Murdaugh’s civil claims that she interfered with the jury that convicted him.
Hill also claimed that she shouldn’t be on the hook for damages to reimburse him for legal costs of defending his murder case because he would have been forced to dish out the money for his defense regardless of her meddling.

The legal costs “are not traceable to [Hill’s] actions,” according to court papers she filed Thursday in the federal case.
Hill’s memoir, “Behind the Doors of Justice: The Murdaugh Murders,” was pulled from shelves after it was revealed she plagiarized the preface from a BBC journalist.
Murdaugh, a 57-year-old disbarred lawyer, is seeking $600,000 in damages against Hill on allegations she tried to sway the jury to find him guilty of killing his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul in 2021.
His May suit came days after South Carolina’s Supreme Court overturned his conviction finding Hill had “placed her fingers on the scales of justice.”
Hill was sentenced to probation after copping to charges of obstruction of justice, perjury and misconduct in office for showing sealed crime scene photos to a reporter and lying about it.
She also admitted to using her position to try to push the sale of her book about the trial.

Hill also made comments to the jury telling them not to be “fooled,” “confused” or “thrown off” by Murdaugh and she had private conversations with the jury foreperson behind closed doors, Murdaugh’s suit alleged.
Murdaugh is still behind bars serving a 40-year federal sentence and a 27-year state sentence on convictions he stole from his clients.
Prosecutors have said they planned to retry the case against him.

After a dramatic six-week trial in 2023, a jury found Murdaugh guilty of fatally shooting his 22-year-old son and 52-year-old wife near the dog kennels at their sprawling hunting estate on June 7, 2021.
Prosecutors have said Murdaugh was motivated to kill his family members to stop his criminal financial dealings from coming out in an unrelated lawsuit by the family of 19-year-old Mallory Beach, who died after a drunken boat crash by Murdaugh’s son.
What would two New York championships in a calendar year do for the city?
Aaron Judge thinks it would have a big impact.
New York Yankees Aaron Judge is all smiles in the dugout during the fourth inning when the New York Yankees played the Chicago White Sox Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, NY. Robert Sabo for NY Post
In conversation with Esquire this week, Judge discussed his illustrious Yankees career, fatherhood and the Knicks.
He put it plainly when talking about the recent Knicks championship.
“A Knicks championship in June and a Yankees World Series in October would bring world peace,” Judge decreed.
It’s a big statement. At the very least, two championships mere months apart would make New York very happy.
Throughout the playoffs, the Knicks faithful took to the streets to celebrate one of the great teams in franchise history.
Judge knows the opportunity that lies in front of him and the rest of the Bronx Bombers.

“There’s a lot of winning going on in New York, so we got to keep that going. I like the team we have,” he told Esquire. “I like the opportunity we’ve got in front of us. It’s going to be an exciting rest of the year.”
Judge witnessed firsthand what the Knicks pulled off in Game 4 to put them a win away from the title.
“I went to Game 4 with my wife. We were kind of worried in the third quarter, but we knew the Knicks,” Judge told the publication.
“Like [Jalen] Brunson said: They show up about thirty minutes late, take care of business. That was a special game. Never forget it.”

The Yankees have made one World Series appearance since their last victory in 2009, losing to the Dodgers in five games, but Judge is determined to bring the Yankees back to their championship ways.
Said Judge: “Obviously I want to win. I want to do a lot of great things in this city and put the Yankees back on top.”
Portugal’s World Cup got off to a disappointing start, and plenty of fingers were pointed at Cristiano Ronaldo afterwards.
The 41-year-old striker, who became the oldest outfield player to start a World Cup match, played all 90 minutes as his side surprisingly settled for a 1-1 draw with DR Congo.
Ronaldo failed to get any of his three shots on target, but fellow legend Thierry Henry honed in one sequence where the Portuguese star — in the Fox Sports analyst’s opinion — failed to make the right run.
The moment in question happened in the second half with Portugal searching for a winning goal, as Francisco Conceição drove with the ball down the right wing.
Both Ronaldo and teammate Bruno Fernandes were awaiting a pass in the box, but instead of darting to the back post to open up space for Fernandes, Ronaldo ended up in Fernandes’ path.
“The team needs to score, not you need to score,” Henry said on Fox, as he criticized Ronaldo’s movement in the clip.

“Cristiano Ronaldo has been in this situation multiple times,” he continued. “If you make that run here, you make the defender take a decision to go to the six-yard box.”
Ultimately, Ronaldo sent his shot wide, and Fernandes, the Manchester United midfielder, looked frustrated afterwards.
No men’s player has more than Ronaldo’s 143 goals at the international level, but his selection is yet again proving to be a dilemma for Portugal manager Roberto Martinez.
With a glittering array of midfielders like Fernandes, Bernardo Silva and Vitinha, many feel that Martinez is wasting a generational Portugal squad by continuing to trot out Ronaldo.
Thierry Henry criticized Ronaldo’s movement during one sequence in the second half FOX
He failed to score in five starts during the 2024 Euros, and he scored one goal in five appearances (three starts) in the 2022 World Cup.
Ronaldo’s blank against DR Congo has also been magnified by Lionel Messi’s strong start for Argentina, as he notched a hat-trick in a 3-0 win against Algeria.
Portugal’s next game is against Uzbekistan next Tuesday, and it’ll become clear soon if Ronaldo remains a starter for that contest.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that nearly three million residents will score some much-needed relief this summer.
New York’s School Tax Relief program — also known as STAR — provides property tax breaks to eligible homeowners and seniors statewide on their primary residence. The $2 billion program is aimed at reducing school property taxes.
New York State Governor Kathy Hochul speaks during a press conference announcing the STAR program Andrew Schwartz / SplashNews.com
Most Gothamites with an income lower than $500,000 will see cash between $350 to $600. Seniors will see higher checks as many with incomes below $110,750 can expect anywhere between $700 to $1,500.
Some STAR recipients will pocket theirs in the form of a tax exemption this year, others will snag a tax credit that will be sent via check in the mail this summer and fall.
“The start of summer is also the start of STAR tax relief season for millions of New Yorkers,” Governor Hochul said. “From tax credits and energy rebates to our expanded child tax credit and middle class tax cuts, we’re continuing to put more money back in New Yorkers’ pockets.”
Fear not, all eligible homeowners who registered for the STAR program will get checks before the deadline for their school taxes. Parts of the state — including New York City, Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse — have school tax due dates in late June and July..
There are two ways to claim your cash. If you’re registered for the credit, the Tax Department will issue your benefit via check or direct deposit — and can use it to pay your school taxes.
You can also receive the credit if you own your home and it’s the primary residence, meeting the income levels mentioned above.
STAR checks will be send by mail or direct deposit by the Tax Department cunaplus – stock.adobe.com
To secure your STAR credit by direct deposit this year, enroll as soon as possible. The governor urges sign ups at least 15 business days before their local school tax due date.
Starting July 7, New Yorkers can get a bit of extra help if needed as the Tax Department is holding regional STAR Seminars. The sessions will teach folks how to sign up for the program and maximize their benefits. The first session will be in Erie County.
Residents can check the delivery schedule showing the date it will be mailed. Just allow five to 10 business days for delivery. And no specific date will be offered, just a general timeline.
Governor Hochul revealed a regional breakdown of this year’s STAR property tax relief sharing that 2.78 million Big Apple residents will get relief.

An ESPN pundit is furious over recent comments by Vincent Goodwill, calling the NBA Championship a “participation trophy.”
Kendrick Perkins went off on Wednesday evening on “The Road Trippin Show.”
“That was a bunch of bulls–t. It was all the way disrespectful, and when I heard him say it, the first thing came to mind is that your ass never was an athlete then. You couldn’t have never participated or been a basketball player or played on anybody’s team talking that type of nonsense. That was the most asinine thing that I’ve ever heard.”
Goodwill’s argument highlighted the eight different champions over eight years, noting that many teams were unable to repeat. He also argued Tuesday that there is no validation in any of the eight wins, including the New York Knicks’ recent championship.
Kendrick Perkins rips into Goodwill’s recent comments @NBA__Courtside/X
Kendrick Perkins GOES OFF on Vincent Goodwill for calling the NBA championship a participation trophy 👀
“Here’s the sh*t that pisses me off. Is when sometimes you’re on television and you get in the moment and feeling the table you going to say some bullsh*t out your mouth.… pic.twitter.com/YCp2CqSZUF
Other participants were shocked by the comments, including MSG and ESPN NBA analyst Alan Hahn, who said the biggest point of validation was the Larry O’Brien Trophy
“Oh, you mean the participation trophy then.” Goodwill retorted. “It is if everyone gets one.”
Perkins believes that even if a player won the championship more than once, each win would stick with them.
“You disrespect the guys who are champions by saying it’s a participation trophy. Like what the f–k are we talking about? Do you know that one in those eight teams that won over the last eight years, one of them was Steph Curry,” Pekins said. “And I guarantee you if you go ask Steph Curry which one of them was his greatest championship, nine times out of ten he’s going to say the fourth one, not just because he won Finals MVP but because he had to overcome the obstacle of being a defensive liability. And he did that.”

“As the media, we have a f–king responsibility, man, to make sure that we say and do the right things,” he continued. “We don’t go on the stage, on the platform, right after somebody just been crowned champions and call that s–t a participation trophy. Even if you’re thinking that, you don’t say that.”
For teams to be champions, it takes years of good drafting, smart signings and clever trades. Then the players and coaches work hard through an 82-game season to just make the playoffs. Finally, in a short period of time, the teams have to play and beat the other team’s best to have a chance to hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
In the NBA, five teams have never been in the Finals, and ten have never hoisted the trophy. Those fans are still waiting to participate in the celebrations of being NBA champions.
In Netflix’s I Will Find You, a father’s commitment to his child is put to the test as David Burroughs (Sam Worthington), who spent the last five years in prison after being convicted of murdering his son, discovers that his boy may still be alive after all. When David’s sister-in-law, Rachel (Britt Lower), brings him a picture of a young child that looks exactly like Matthew (distinctive birthmark on the cheek and all!), the hunt to track down his missing and previously believed to be dead son begins. So, the question is, what would you do and how far would you go to find out the truth, especially if the truth means finding your child?
If that sounds at all interesting to you, this might be your sign to go back and watch the entire series, which is now streaming on Netflix. Then again, you may be here because you’ve already binged roughly eight hours or a twisty-turny drama and need a breakdown of everything that happens in the action-packed finale. Whatever your reason for being here is, we’re happy to have you.
Here’s a full ending explained for the Season 1 finale of I Will Find You, including an answer to the biggest question of them all: Who took Matthew and why? Here’s everything you need to know about the ending of Netflix’s I Will Find You…
I Will Find You Ending Explained: Who Took Matthew and Why?
Turns out, you don’t even have to jump all the way to the finale, a.k.a. Episode 8 of I Will Find You, to figure out who took Matthew, as it’s revealed at the end of Episode 7 that Hayden (Milo Ventimiglia) is the person responsible for Matthew’s kidnapping. Those who haven’t watched much of the show or only know Hayden as the good guy who offered Rachel a place to stay and gave David some help as he evaded the FBI might be confused by how he factors into the equation and that’s the part that requires a little more explanation.
You see, after Rachel and Hayden broke up several years prior to everything unfolding, Hayden found out that someone named Rachel Mills went to a fertility clinic to undergo artificial insemination. Thinking that Rachel wanted to have a child and knowing that he still was in love with her, being the wealthy and well-connected man he is, Hayden paid the clinic to use his own sperm to get Rachel pregnant. Only problem? Cheryl was the real patient and was just using her sister’s name to stay off the books and have a sense of anonymity. At the time, she and David had been trying to conceive for a while, so she decided to go out on her own and try to get pregnant with a sperm donor, then chose to raise the child with David as his own.
Photo: Netflix
Ultimately, Hayden found out that it was Cheryl, not Rachel, who ended up using his sperm and having a child following the insemination. So, there you have it, right? Hayden took Matthew because it was his son, right? WRONG. Hayden is not the father of Matthew and DNA tests that said otherwise were doctored by his own mother, Gertrude Payne (Madeleine Stowe), to validate Hayden’s delusion. It turns out that Cheryl did visit the fertility clinic and did decide to go through with it, but the next morning, she woke up feeling sick and took a pregnancy test that came back positive. After years of trying to get pregnant with David, their vigorous attempts finally paid off, making her artificial insemination null and void.
It’s only after David tells Hayden that this whole situation has been a big misunderstanding and that real DNA proves David is the father of Matthew, now called Theo by Hayden and Gertrude Payne. At the luxurious Payne residence, Rachel attempts to sneak David into the house to help him take Matthew back, which, of course, goes haywire quickly. The plot is figured out by Hayden, who begins a shootout on the property, hitting and killing his own mother and attempting to drive off with Matthew before David shoots out one of his tires. As the car comes to a stop, Matthew takes off for the woods at the property’s edge with David and Hayden chasing after him.
Face to face in the woods, Hayden shoots David and is about to kill him when Rachel and Agent Greer (Logan Browning) arrive just in time to take out Hayden, all as Matthew watches in terror. The series concludes with a flash forward several months later after David’s father has passed away and the whole family is reunited to celebrate his life. It appears that David and Matthew are finally starting to figure out a new sense of normalcy and in one final shot, David and Rachel hold hands and glance at each other to acknowledge that they will do everything together from here on out.
Whose Body Did Cops Find At David’s House The Night Matthew Disappeared?
While that may have been a lengthy breakdown of the finale, you might find yourself asking the question: If Matthew was alive, whose bloodied body did they find on the night of the kidnapping? Good question. As noted above, the Payne family is not only wealthy, but they are also well connected and involved in several major charities around the world. One of their charitable endeavors just so happens to be an orphanage, where they found Martin, a young boy who they believed could pass for Matthew’s age and body type.
Photo: Netflix
Thinking it was the only opportunity to take Matthew in the dark of the night, Hayden killed Martin and swapped his body in where Matthew’s would be, even swapping DNA and planting samples to prove the body belonged to David’s son. This only worked because the body of the dead boy was so mangled from being bludgeoned with a bat that police were willing to take their DNA sample as all the proof they needed. In the end, it was David and Rachel’s commitment to finding the truth — as well as international police detective Muller (Tom Morton) searching to figure out what really happened to Martin that this case was solved. Without the team effort, it’s quite possible the case would never have been cracked.
I Will Find You is now streaming on Netflix.
Netflix offers three subscription plans to fit your streaming needs. The plans start at $7.99/month for standard with ads and go up to $24.99/month for unlimited ad-free streaming in up to 4K UHD quality.

Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh shocked Wall Street this week by delivering one of the most hawkish messages investors have heard in months, prompting traders to rapidly abandon expectations for interest-rate cuts and begin pricing in the possibility of rate hikes before year-end.
The dramatic shift in market sentiment came after the Federal Open Market Committee left rates unchanged but signaled that inflation remains its top concern despite signs of slowing economic growth.
The message was reinforced by former Dallas Fed President Robert Kaplan, who warned that policymakers may need to raise rates as soon as September if inflation fails to cool over the summer.

“If inflation prints don’t cool between now and we get to September, I actually think the balance of risks suggests it would be wise to take some action, either in September or in the fall,” Kaplan, now vice chairman at Goldman Sachs, said in an interview with Bloomberg Television.
Kaplan added that rate increases rarely come alone.
“If you move in September, you need to be prepared. There could be one or two more,” he said.
The hawkish turn caught many investors off guard. Earlier this year, markets largely expected the Fed’s next move to be a rate cut as economic growth moderated and inflation appeared to be moving closer to the central bank’s target.
Instead, Warsh’s debut as Fed chairman has shifted the conversation back toward inflation and the possibility that monetary policy may need to become even tighter.

“The odds of a rate hike are certainly higher than they were a month ago,” Scott Martin, partner at Kingsview Wealth Management, told The Post.
“The Fed has made it clear that inflation remains its primary concern, and if the next few inflation reports fail to show meaningful improvement, September is absolutely in play.”

Martin said the central bank appears increasingly focused on preserving its inflation-fighting credibility.
“Right now, it’s less about economic growth and more about protecting the Fed’s credibility on inflation,” he said.
Others see the Fed’s shift as even more dramatic.

Derek Reisfield, co-founder and former chairman of MarketWatch, said investors should prepare for higher borrowing costs.
“While the Fed rate remained unchanged for the moment, it is clear the positioning changed to reflect the increased likelihood of a rate hike later this year,” Reisfield said.
“I would say there is an 80 percent chance of a rate hike this Fall.”
Reisfield pointed to persistent inflation risks ranging from food prices to energy markets, warning that geopolitical uncertainty could keep inflation elevated through the end of the year.
The implications would extend far beyond Wall Street.
“Credit card, auto loan and other rates are likely to go up as well. So consumers will be paying more for credit all around,” Reisfield said.
Higher rates would also increase borrowing costs for the federal government as it finances its massive debt load.
For now, investors are left reassessing assumptions that had dominated markets for much of the year.
“I don’t think the market is overreacting,” Martin said.
“Investors spent much of the last year assuming the next move from the Fed would be a rate cut. Warsh is signaling that inflation is still a problem and that policymakers are willing to keep all options on the table.”
