World Cup 2026: Why was Harry Kane’s penalty retaken against Croatia?

Harry Kane was able to give England the lead against Croatia from the penalty spot – but only thanks to the video assistant referee.

The spot-kick was awarded in the ninth minute after Luka Modric fouled Noni Madueke.

England captain Kane saw his first effort saved by Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic.

The VAR stepped in to give Kane a second chance because Livakovic was off his line.

At the time a kick is taken the keeper must have one foot on or above the line, and images showed that Livakovic had moved fractionally too soon.

But even if the keeper had stayed on his line, the penalty would still have been retaken.

After Livakovic made the save the loose ball dropped to Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol to clear for Croatia.

But he had also moved too quickly and was inside the area when Kane took his first attempt.

This is not an automatic retake, as the defender must impact an opposition attacker.

Madueke was behind Gvardiol, so by clearing the ball he prevented the Arsenal winger from getting a shot from the rebound.

Kane duly despatched at the second attempt.

A New York City designer to stars – including the likes of Julia Roberts and Cynthia Erivo – has been charged with running a “sweatshop” and bilking her employees out of thousands in unpaid wages.

Andrea Mary Marshall, the founder of the Garment District atelier Salon 1884, is accused of stealing roughly $54,000 from her nine employees and forcing them to work “exploitative” hours, with unpaid shifts lasting up to 17 hours a day, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office.

Video allegedly shows ‘Lilo & Stitch’ actress Daveigh Chase living on Skid Row

“Lilo & Stitch” star Daveigh Chase was living a tortured existence months before her death as her friends and loved ones tried desperately to save her life, her manager told The California Post.

John Ryan, Chase’s manager of more than a decade, said he and Chase’s step-sister, Gaia Brown, had enlisted the help of a private investigator about a year ago to track her down and get her some help.

Ryan said at the end of 2025 he was alerted to a video which allegedly showed Chase shockingly skinny and struggling on Skid Row. The video, posted and later pulled from social media, showed a very thin Chase, barely conscious on the floor of a tent or trailer.

Ryan said he was able to get on the phone with Chase shortly after the video surfaced, but she had “disappeared” by the time he got down to Skid Row in order to rescue her for treatment.

Once found, Ryan and Chase’s step-sister planned to get the actress into a rehab facility in Costa Rica owned by a friend he knew after nursing her back to health in Los Angeles.

“We were so close to finding her,” he told The Post, “Daveigh was the sweetest and brightest light in Hollywood. I can’t believe this is real. Her legacy and work will live on forever.”

Ryan was also working on a documentary detailing the search for the Hollywood actress called “Finding Lilo,” he said, adding major studios were interested in the film.

To add insult to injury in Chase’s death, Ryan has called out what he believes to be an improper GoFundMe set up by her alleged boyfriend.

“Apparently, a man claiming to be her ‘boyfriend’ that none of us friends or her family has heard of has set up a GoFundMe on ‘her and her families behalf’ that he set her up as the organizer. I can confirm Daveigh has a trust account set up at SAG to cover all costs,” he told The Post.

The GoFundMe has raised about $1,400 of its $5,500 goal. The organizer, her boyfriend Roy Hernandez, did not specify where the money would go.

Chase garnered considerable fame for her role as Lilo in the 2002 animated movie and earned even more acclaim as “The Ring” villain Samara Morgan. However, the last decade of her life was marred by periods of addiction and homelessness.

Chase died June 17 from meningitis and an infection in her blood, TMZ reported. She was admitted to the hospital for severe malnourishment, the outlet added.

At the time of her death, Chase hadn’t appeared in a film or on television for about a decade. Her final starring roles were in the horror film “Jack Goes Home” and the thriller “American Romance” in 2016.

“After a difficult childhood and a painful falling out with her family, Daveigh was bullied and struggled to find safety and happiness in downtown LA. When we met, I promised to protect her and give her the love and comfort she deserved. Together, we found moments of happiness and hope.

“All she ever wanted was a place where we could live together, feel safe, and be happy. Now, more than ever, I want to give her that sense of home and peace in her final days.

“I understand we all go through things, but if you can help, I will be really grateful for anything. And if you can only give a prayer, I will take that too. Thank you for considering helping us during this difficult time.”

Jelly Roll’s daughter Bailee Ann begs for ‘compassion’ amid onslaught of ‘hate’ after dad’s divorce

Jelly Roll’s daughter, Bailee Ann, begged for “compassion” amid the onslaught of “hate” her family is receiving following her dad’s shocking divorce from longtime wife Bunnie Xo.

The 18-year-old thanked those who have been showing her “so much love and kindness through everything” since the news broke and called out the haters in an expiring TikTok update Wednesday.

“I will never forget those of you that have showed me empathy when I’m seeing a lot of hate. Thank you. So much,” she wrote, shouting out those who “go out of your way to make me feel protected & seen.”

“And to everyone else, I hope humanity can evolve to a place where kindness comes first. I understand & respect opinions and that a public profile is a public profile, but that doesn’t have to mean we throw away our human decency. I love ALL of you 🤍.”

“I will never forget those of you that have showed me empathy when I’m seeing a lot of hate. Thank you. So much,” Bailee Ann wrote in a TikTok post (seen above). Instagram/thebaileeann

Bailee Ann first broke her silence on her father’s divorce in a prior post Tuesday in which she said she is “disgusted at how invested everyone is in a very clearly private family matter.”

“worry bout your house – not mine,” she added of the “fkn crazy” attention the split is getting. “I’m not speaking on it – yet.”

Jelly Roll — who welcomed Bailee Ann and son Noah Buddy, 9, from previous relationships — quietly filed for divorce from Bunnie on May 18 in Williamson County, Tennessee.

The Grammy winner, 41, cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for his split from the “Dumb Blonde” podcast host, 46. The two have been married since 2016.

“And to everyone else, I hope humanity can evolve to a place where kindness comes first,” the teen (pictured here alongside the Grammy-winning singer) added. Getty Images

On Wednesday, an insider exclusively told Page Six the estranged couple’s divorce was “a combination of issues that had been building for years.”

“Some people around them felt there was growing tension as Jelly embraced a more faith-centered lifestyle while Bunnie continued building the outspoken and provocative brand that had always been authentic to her,” the source told us.

They added: “Whether that’s fair or not, it became increasingly difficult to reconcile those two worlds.”

“Bunnie has always been unapologetically herself, and while that’s something [Jelly’s] admired about her, there were times when it felt like they were no longer aligned with where he saw his life heading or what he envisioned for the future,” the source noted.

The split comes at even more of a shock as the now-exes were trying to have a baby in recent months.

The “Son of a Sinner” singer and Bunnie revealed they were undergoing a “rough” in vitro fertilization (IVF) journey in an interview just months before their divorce.

Bunnie, notably, shared a racy image just hours before news broke of Jelly’s divorce filing.

“She’s getting her sparkle back,” she cryptically wrote atop the photo.

Most recently, a moving truck was spotted outside of their shared residence in Tennessee. It’s unclear at this time as to whose items were being moved from their marital home.

Skywatchers could see the crescent moon align with these 3 planets this week

Skywatchers, get ready — one of June’s most spectacular celestial events begins tonight, just days before the summer solstice.

People around the world will have a chance to see the crescent moon align with Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury in the evening sky several nights this week.

The three-night celestial phenomenon begins Tuesday after sunset and continues through Thursday night.

During the event, the crescent moon will hang low above the western horizon, appearing near the trio of bright planets and creating a memorable sight for observers.

Experts say Mercury may be the most difficult planet to see because it is not as bright as Venus and Jupiter, and it’s lower in the sky. However, it should still be visible to the naked eye under clear conditions, without the need for binoculars or a telescope.

Because the event spans three evenings, skywatchers will have some flexibility to choose the night with the best weather conditions.

Skywatchers will be able to view all four objects about an hour after sunset.

Officials recommend finding a dark location away from city lights and streetlamps. Allow your eyes about 20 to 30 minutes to adjust to the darkness to maximize visibility.

The celestial event comes just days after the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter, which occurred between June 8 and 9, when the two planets appeared close together in the night sky.

Inspector gives update on missing South Carolina personal trainer Elena Moore as search enters 6th day

An inspector has given an update as the search continues for a missing personal trainer who vanished after leaving a gym in South Carolina six days ago.

Cops said they were not eying Elena Moore’s husband, Brannon Slice, as a person of interest as they continue to look for his 39-year-old wife.

“Mr. Slice is not a person of interest at the current moment,” Lexington Police Department Inspector Missy Silcox told Newsweek late Tuesday.

Silcox said there was no indication of foul play but did not elaborate, according to Newsweek.

Slice, who reported Moore missing Friday, is cooperating with investigators, private investigator Harry Dukes told the outlet.

Silcox’s comments came as armchair sleuths wildly speculated online about Slice, questioning why it took him “a day” to report his wife missing.

Moore was last seen leaving Planet Fitness in Lexington and walking toward a wooded area near a  Lowe’s Home Improvement store at 9:17 p.m. Thursday, the Lexington Police Department said.

Moore had signed in at the gym at around 6:40 p.m. and was last seen on surveillance footage wearing the same outfit she had on at the gym, an olive green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants, investigators revealed.

Slice reported her missing the following day, but the time was unclear.

Law enforcement, after launching a drone search, initially focused on the woods, trails, and farmland behind the Planet Fitness where she was last seen. Police have said it was not a recovery effort, but an attempt to eliminate one possible location where Moore could be.

On Wednesday, police expanded the search area to a wooded area near Lakeside Middle School, roughly a mile from where she was last seen, according to The State.

The expanded search came after a tipster reported seeing Moore walking towards the woods near the school on Wednesday morning, the outlet reported.

Police released new photographs of Moore, including images captured on a front door camera a week before her disappearance, hoping someone recognizes her and can offer information about her whereabouts.

Moore is a personal trainer at Wolf’s Fitness Center and works as a pharmacy technician at CVS, police added.

She is 5 feet 7 inches tall and 120 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Police didn’t immediately return a call Wednesday afternoon. Slice also didn’t return a request for comment from The Post.

Anyone with information about Moore’s whereabouts should contact detectives at 803-358-7271.
