Knicks’ Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart watch Yankees demolish White Sox

On the eve of one of the city’s biggest celebrations in years — a parade for the NBA champion Knicks — the Yankees got the party started early.

With Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart in The Bronx to throw out the ceremonial first pitches and then watch from a suite, the Yankees put on a show Wednesday behind another relentless offensive attack.

Every member of the starting lineup had at least one hit as the Yankees pounded the White Sox for a second straight night, 10-5, in front of 38,558, including two freshly crowned champions.

Brunson and Hart were the main attraction for many of those fans at the start of the night and whenever they came into sight following their first pitches, but the Yankees (45-27) gave them plenty to watch on the field, too, as they won for the eighth time in their last nine games.

Cody Bellinger, Paul Goldschmidt and Jazz Chisholm Jr. all homered as the Yankees raced out to an early lead and then piled on from there, scoring 22 runs through the first two games of this series against one of the other four American League teams that entered the night with a winning record.

Carlos Rodón grinded through five innings, with all of the damage he allowed coming on one swing: Colson Montgomery’s three-run homer in the top of the third inning, which pulled the White Sox (38-34) within 4-3.

But that was as close as it would get, as the Yankees blew the game open with a five-run fifth inning capped by Goldschmidt’s three-run home run to the short porch off righty reliever Tyler Davis.

With his 11th home run of the year, Goldschmidt has surpassed his home run tally for all of last season (10 in 146 games), doing so in just 47 games to help the Yankees withstand the losses of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

Meanwhile, another former MVP, Bellinger, finished a triple short of the cycle as he continued to do everything well.

In the process, the Yankees improved to 18-6 when facing a left-handed starter this season.

After clubbing four home runs in Tuesday’s 12-2 win, the Yankees picked up where they left off as Bellinger clubbed a two-run shot in the bottom of the first against White Sox lefty and former Mets prospect Anthony Kay.

Preceded by Amed Rosario’s two-out double, Bellinger continued his terrific left-on-left hitting by taking Kay deep for his 11th home run of the year.

The Yankees added on in the second inning thanks to the bottom of their lineup. The rally got started when José Caballero took a 93 mph cutter off his right foot, and after a brief check by Aaron Boone and a trainer, stayed in the game. Anthony Volpe came up next and drilled a triple to the gap, scoring Caballero for the 3-0 lead.

Ali Sánchez followed by spraying a single to right field to make it 4-0, giving the Yankees some rare run-scoring production from the catcher’s spot.

The White Sox briefly made things interesting in the top of the third when, with two outs, Rodón threw an 0-2 slider that caught too much of the plate and ended up in the right field seats on Montgomery’s three-run homer.

But the Yankees put a five-spot on the White Sox bullpen in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.

It started with a single from Bellinger, then a double from Jasson Domínguez (from the right side against lefty reliever Sean Newcomb), and both came in to score on Caballero’s single to make it 6-3.

Volpe forced Newcomb out of the game when he smoked a line drive off his left shoulder on a fielder’s choice, but after Sánchez’s second hit of the game, Goldschmidt delivered a three-run shot for the 9-3 lead.

Chisholm was the last Yankee without a hit, but he joined in style with a solo blast in the seventh inning for his 10th home run of the year.

Luis Arraez, Bryce Eldridge power Giants to doubleheader sweep over Braves

ATLANTA — So homer-happy were the Giants on Wednesday that even Luis Arraez got in on the power party aided by the balmy conditions in the Braves’ bandbox.

The contact-hitting second baseman put one over the wall for only the third time this season — his first in any setting besides the hitter’s paradise that is the A’s temporary home — and that was only the beginning of a historic homer barrage on their way to a doubleheader sweep.

The Giants hit three home runs on their way to a 7-2 win in the early game. They slugged that many in the second inning alone of the nightcap. Final score: 7-5.

The rare homer from Arraez came with two outs in the second, finding a landing spot in The Chophouse in right field, after Willy Adames lined one over the left-field wall to lead off the frame.

Bryce Eldridge immediately followed Arraez with a shot to center, giving the Giants three in an inning for the first time this season and their second set of back-to-back homers of the day.

Jung Hoo Lee and Rafael Devers provided back-to-back blasts in the first game.

Devers was contained to the field of play in the second game but used it like a pinball machine to record his MLB-leading 23rd and 24th doubles of the season, including one he snuck down the left-field line in the first that drove in Arraez and opened a 1-0 lead.

Arraez finished with a season-high four RBIs, poking a two-run single in front of Mike Yastrzemski in left field to pad the Giants’ lead in the top of the ninth.

The Giants had manufactured three runs before play was suspended in the first game Tuesday night. From the time they resumed play Wednesday afternoon, the Giants’ six home runs were responsible for eight of the 12 runs they scored the rest of the day.

On the topic of homering in bunches, nobody clumps them together like Adames, who also went deep in the first game. Five different Giants homered on the day, but only Adames did so twice.

The last time Adames homered, he also hit two in one day. In between the multi-homer games, however, the shortstop managed just one single with 11 strikeouts in 31 at-bats. Of his last five hits, four have gone over the fence.

The Braves, on the other hand, weren’t able to do much of anything against Carson Whisenhunt, called up from Triple-A to make a spot start in the second game of the twin bill.

In his first start of the season, Whisenhunt limited Atlanta to two runs on six hits and two walks over five-plus innings. Both of Whisenhunt’s walks came in his first two frames, and he settled down to retire 11 of 12 until allowing the first three batters of the sixth to reach base.

With 6 ⅓ scoreless innings from Robbie Ray in the first game and strong work from their relievers, Giants pitchers held Atlanta to two runs over the first 16 innings they played Wednesday.

Matt Gage, in his return from the injured list, wasn’t able to finish the job, recording only one out in the ninth, surrendering a two-run homer to Mauricio Dubon and handing the game over to Tristan Beck with two on and the tying run at the plate.

Caleb Kilian, their closer, was apparently not available for the sudden save situation after manager Tony Vitello used him to record the final two outs of their five-run win earlier in the day.

What it means

The Braves began this series with the best record in the majors, 17 ½ games ahead of the Giants, with a 3.32 staff ERA that trailed only the Yankees for the best in MLB.

None of that seemed to matter to the Giants, who unloaded against a bullpen game and a rookie making his sixth big-league start, JR Ritchie. In a roundabout way, San Francisco has reeled off three wins in a row. The Giants haven’t won four games in a row all season.

Who’s hot

The power strokes of the Giants’ hitters, who look like a completely transformed group from the one that ranked last in the majors in home runs through the first week of May.

San Francisco became the last team to reach 20 home runs on May 4. Since then, they’re tied with the Nationals for the most in the majors, with 59 after slugging six more Wednesday.

And consider this: Their 122 wRC+ in that span leads the league, meaning the offensive awakening hasn’t just been a product of the long ball, nor is it merely a result of favorable foes.

Who’s not

Just about everyone has participated in the Giants’ power surge.

But not catcher Daniel Susac.

Susac started behind the plate in the first game of the double header and went hitless in four chances, bringing the Rule 5 pick over 100 plate appearances without a homer.

Susac continues to be a reliable receiver and singles hitter, but just six of his 26 hits this season have gone for extra bases. Since returning from the injured list May 15, Susac is batting .221 with a .550 OPS, putting his OPS on the verge of dropping below .700 for the first time this year.

Up next

With more rain in the forecast for Thursday, the teams have discussed moving up the start time of the series finale from 7:15 p.m. ET. For now, that’s when Braves starter Martin Perez will toe the rubber, opposed by Landen Roupp in his first start since Pride Night in San Francisco.

Sabrina Carpenter granted 5-year restraining order

Sabrina Carpenter has been granted a lengthy restraining order against a man she claims repeatedly attempted to enter her home.

Among other restrictions, 31-year-old William Applegate is now order to keep at least 100 yards from the “Manchild” singer, her sister, and her sister’s partner — both of whom reside with her — as well as to refrain from possessing firearms or attempting to communicate with Carpenter, according to the Associated Press.

Applegate — who appeared in court without any attorney — said during a hearing that he and the Carpenter needed to “be together as soon as possible” because they’re part of a classified military program watching out for “national and global security,” the outlet reported.

Though Carpenter was set to testify remotely, the 27-year-old pop star was not ultimately called to do so.

Per the outlet, Applegate allegedly attempted to enter Carpenter’s Los Angeles home more than a dozen times.

In a petition, the “Girl Meets World” alum alleged Applegate was arrested after striking a security guard and reaching her front door last month. He returned days later.

On May 29, the judge granted a temporary restraining order, the outlet reported.

Per the AP, Applegate admitted to being at Carpenter’s residence, insisting that the “Espresso” singer wanted him there and saying that her team and the authorities were working against him.

The outlet reported that Applegate said he’s “more than willing” to steer clear of the Grammy winner if she told him to directly — though he also reportedly wrote in a counter-petition that Carpenter had attempted to communicate with him by looking directly at him as she sang during her Coachella set in April.

Attorney Blair Berk, who is representing the singer, reportedly told Judge David L. Wasserman that Carpenter “is in fear for her own personal safety and the safety of members of her family” due to Applegate’s actions.

“I understand that it’s your belief that in order to save the world, you and the petitioner must be together,” Judge Wasserman reportedly said during the proceedings, emphasizing that he expects Applegate to “obey the order, not what you think is right, not what you think the military commands you.”

According to the AP, criminal charges do not appear to have been filed against Applegate, though a criminal investigation is underway.

Page Six has reached out to reps for Carpenter. A rep for Applegate was not immediately available for comment on Wednesday evening.

World Cup 2026: What players, coaches and fans think of hydration breaks

This was not the first game where boos have been at the hydration break, and the wave of dislike for them among fans appears to be gathering momentum.

On Tuesday, during Norway’s match against Iraq in Boston, the pause in play was greeted by boos from the crowd, with the temperature a more than manageable 23C at the time.

It was goalless just before the break but Iraq conceded four minutes after play resumed, and went on to lose 4-1.

There were loud boos for the pause during Sweden’s 5-1 thrashing of Tunisia on Monday and Spain’s goalless draw with Cape Verde on the same day, with that game played in the air-conditioned Atlanta Stadium.

And after England’s win against Croatia, the first hydration break during the match between Ghana and Panama was also greeted by jeers.

The hydration breaks have effectively turned games into four quarters rather than two halves, a concern for some of those England supporters who booed the break.

“It is like the Americanisation of football here,” said one.

“It is turning the game into quarters and I don’t love it. I get why people were booing and I was one of them.”

But some supporters do think there are benefits to them.

“I think they are badly marketed,” said another fan.

“If they were not called a hydration break, and were called a relief break then everyone doesn’t miss a goal.

“I think we have to think about it in a new way, corporate [bodies] get what they want, we get what we want and everyone is happy.”

Stephen A. Smith has no idea France won the 2018 World Cup

It seems Stephen A. Smith isn’t dialed in on World Cup history.

On ESPN’s “First Take” on Wednesday morning, during a panel discussion on the U.S. men’s national team’s mentality in the 2026 World Cup compared to years past, Smith brought up the French national team.

“I’m wondering what France is going to do, could this be the year that they finally get it done and they win the World Cup?” he asked.

France, of course, won the 2018 World Cup, defeating Croatia 4-2 in the final. It wasn’t the country’s first title, either, as it won in 1998 as the host nation, shutting out Brazil 3-0 in the final.

Smith got on the topic after talking about French star Kylian Mbappé’s prowess.

“For me, it’s about Mbappé for France,” Smith said. “He scores two goals yesterday, remember he scores a hat-trick in the finals loss to Argentina in 2022. I’m wondering whether or not this is the year for France.”

Mbappé was on the French roster that won it all in 2018, making him the youngest French goal scorer in World Cup history when he found the net in a group stage win over Peru.

Mbappé even scored in the 2018 final, helping France on its way to defeating Croatia.

The sports world slammed Smith for his lack of knowledge on France’s World Cup history.

NBA journalist Justin Russo posted on X: “Leave the analysis, before the analysis leaves you.”

Other users called Smith’s words “embarrassing” and foolish.

With his two-goal opening performance against Senegal on Tuesday, Mbappé broke Olivier Giroud’s all-time French scoring record and Just Fontaine’s scoring record by a Frenchman in the World Cup.

France will continue its quest for a third World Cup on Monday when facing Iraq at 5 p.m. ET.

Poor Gavin Newsom: Can’t drown sorrows at the French Laundry

1. First Partner in Crime

by Riley Nork

Federal investigators are apparently questioning Gavin Newsom’s friends and associates, part of an ongoing inquiry that reportedly relates to First Lady Partner Jennifer and her various feminist nonprofits.

This, Gavin explains, is a political witch hunt from Trump: “He’s coming after me because I am considering running for president,” Newsom told supporters.

Sure, a person familiar with the investigation disputed that assertion, telling the NYT that the inquiry was launched IN CALIFORNIA, not Washington, but ignore that; here’s what’s even more troubling: The French Laundry, Newsom’s favorite watering hole for pandemic pinot, is ALSO in hot water, facing three labor lawsuits from employees who claim they were skimped on wages.

Here, a totally relatable scandal for Newsom as he prepares to pitch voters in 2028 … don’t you hate it when your wife’s “girlboss” charities get investigated for fraud, and you can’t even commiserate about it at your favorite five-star restaurant because the help went on strike?

2. Breaking: Your phone is still horrible for you

by Blake Dodge

According to a new study in the National Bureau of Economic Research, iPhones are at least partially responsible for 33-52% of the decline in fertility among women ages 15-44.

The observational study compared birth rates in places where people got iPhones earlier versus later, finding the largest declines among younger women. Which makes sense.

We already know, as the authors noted, that smartphones reduce in-person interactions and sexual frequency while increasing pornography use … and I’m nearly looking at the whole thing as good news, actually.

Finally, we’re having a national conversation about the birth rate that doesn’t blame the whole thing on the cost of living (as though our parents had two dimes to rub together before having us in their 20s).

I mean sure, we’re still blaming capitalism, but at least looking at the consequences of Instagram and whorebots is a bit more… specific?

3. Land of plenty

by Max Weiner

World Cup visitors have arrived in America, and roving gangs of Proud Boys are terrorizing — wait, I’m sorry, what’s that? Everyone is having the time of their lives?

Posting through the bliss is a German, Freddy, whose American Boy Summer has taken him to Buc-ee’s, Walmart, Auburn, an alpine rollercoaster, Houston and a shooting range inside Bass Pro Shops.

From Auburn’s football stadium (only America’s 13th largest college stadium), Freddy quoted his mate: “Punch me five times tomorrow and I’ll still think this isn’t real.”

Wait till you see the Big House, Freddy. On one hand, I marvel at the global propaganda machine that makes America out to be literal hell on Earth when Democrats lose power, and I’m grateful the world now sees how awesome we are while enjoying our hospitality and air conditioning.

On the other, I don’t want infinity migrants dreaming about the paradise that is the American heartland, so maybe we never do this again …

Ghastly video shows ‘Lilo & Stitch’ actress Daveigh Chase wasting away on Skid Row months before death

Daveigh Chase found herself living on the streets of Downtown Los Angeles in the months leading up to her tragic death, new video reveals.

In the gruesome clip obtained exclusively by The Post, the “Lilo & Stitch” actress can be seen looking extremely skinny and barely conscious on the floor of a tent or trailer in LA’s notorious Skid Row.

Chase’s longtime manager, John Ryan, told the outlet he’d been searching for Chase alongside her stepsister Gaia Brown with the help of a private investigator for months before they were made aware of the video in late 2025.

Daveigh Chase was seen living on the streets of Downtown Los Angeles in the months leading up to her death, according to a ghastly video obtained by The Post (pictured here). Instagram/whitewallstuntz

He said he was able to speak with Chase on the phone so he could rescue her for treatment shortly after he came across the video, but the actress “disappeared” once again by the time he made it to Skid Row.

Ryan said he and Brown planned to nurse Chase back to health in LA before getting her to a rehab facility in Costa Rica owned by a friend he knew.

“We were so close to finding her,” he told The Post. “Daveigh was the sweetest and brightest light in Hollywood. I can’t believe this is real. Her legacy and work will live on forever.”

Shortly before her death, a GoFundMe was created by her boyfriend Roy Hernandez to help Chase “find comfort and peace” in her final days.

“Daveigh Chase, my girlfriend, has always been a light in my life. Many people know her as a talented childhood actor from ‘Lilo & Stitch,’ ‘Spirited Away,’ and ‘Donnie Darko.’ But behind the scenes, she’s faced more than her share of hardship,” the campaign reads.

“After a difficult childhood and a painful falling out with her family, Daveigh was bullied and struggled to find safety and happiness in downtown LA. When we met, I promised to protect her and give her the love and comfort she deserved. Together, we found moments of happiness and hope.”

However, according to Ryan, the man behind the account is an imposter allegedly grifting for unnecessary cash.

“Apparently, a man claiming to be her ‘boyfriend’ that none of us friends or her family has heard of has set up a GoFundMe on ‘her and her families behalf’ that he set her up as the organizer. I can confirm Daveigh has a trust account set up at SAG to cover all costs,” he told The Post.

The “Ring” actress allegedly had received “millions” in residuals from her work as a child star. However, the money went unclaimed as Chase was “too far gone” on heroin and fentanyl to collect, Ryan shared.

While a GoFundMe account has been created in her name, her longtime manager John Ryan claims the former child star (pictured above at the premiere of “Lilo & Stitch” in 2002) had received millions in residuals from her childhood career. Getty Images
Ryan had been searching for Chase (seen above) but was unable to help her get back on her feet in the last few months, telling The Post: “We were so close to finding her. With Chase no longer living to collect her money, the funds would then be given to her next of kin — which, in this case, would be her father, Ryan noted.

Chase died June 16 after she was diagnosed with meningitis and a blood infection that caused her body to turn septic and eventually shut down. She was 35 years old.

According to TMZ, the “Donnie Darko” actress had been admitted to a Los Angeles hospital earlier this month due to malnutrition.

Amazonian ‘ghost dogs’ be more common

An extremely rare species of Amazonian wild canine nicknamed the “ghost dog” may have a higher population than initially thought, new data suggests.

Short-eared dog — the formal name for the species — were mapped using camera-trap sightings across lowland regions in Bolivia and Peru over the course of 25 years, according to a study published in May in “Neotropical Biology and Conservation.

“The most surprising aspect of the results was that despite being an almost mythical beast, short-eared dogs are much more abundant than we had imagined,” the researchers said.

Scientists emphasized that despite the species’ relative abundance, they are not considered common. Ghost dogs remain one of the least-studied canids in the animal kingdom.

“The short-eared dog, or ghost dog, is perhaps the least known medium- to large-sized Neotropical mammal and potentially one of the scarcest canids,” said Dr. Robert Wallace, the lead researcher.

Between 2001 and 2024, the dogs were caught in 594 photographs, complete with their large heads, small ears, short legs, webbed toes, puffy tail and red-to-black densely packed coat.

Data shows that ghost dogs typically have a density of 15 dogs per 38.61 miles — they prefer habitats with thick foliage, which makes them hard to see.

Ghost dogs are notoriously shy and have acute sight and hearing capabilities, which creates a significant barrier for scientists attempting to study the animal in its natural habitat.

In protected, conservationist areas, the dogs were spotted the most frequently, suggesting these areas are vital for their preservation.

“The most important management strategy is the protection of Amazonian forest canopy for which the creation and effective management of protected areas is the most important element, in combination with the sustainable management of Indigenous territories,” the researchers said.

Tom Dreesen, pioneering comedian and Frank Sinatra’s longtime opening act, dead at 86

Tom Dreesen, who along with partner Tim Reid formed one of America’s first interracial stand-up comedy duos and later spent years as Frank Sinatra’s opening act, died Wednesday. He was 86.

Dreesen died at his home in Los Angeles, according to publicist Lori De Waal. A cause of death was not provided.

After meeting in Chicago, Dreesen and Reid, who was Black, formed “Tim and Tom” in 1969. Against a backdrop of simmering racial tension, they used humor to address social issues and promote understanding between audiences of different backgrounds. They worked together until the mid-1970s. Reid went on to solo success playing DJ Venus Flytrap on the popular TV sitcom “WKRP in Cincinnati,” where Dreesen was a guest star.

“When I was a kid I found an album he and his comedy partner did called Tim and Tom and took it home and played it and it was one of the albums that changed the course of my life. So great,” comedian and filmmaker Mike Binder wrote on X.

After splitting with Reid, Dreesen honed a solo comedy act, making over 500 national TV appearances, including 60 visits to “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.” He also was a frequent guest and sometime guest host on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” Their friendship dated to the early 1970s when both worked at The Comedy Store in West Hollywood, California.

Dreesen’s final TV appearance came last week on “Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen,” which replaced Stephen Colbert’s canceled CBS late-night show.

Dreesen was Sinatra’s opening act for 14 years and became close with the entertainer.

“If he loved you, he worshipped the ground you walked on,” Dreesen told The Desert Sun newspaper in 2014. ”In a lot of ways, he was like a father to me. I didn’t have a father that really cared that much where I was and what I did. But Frank would give me advice and counsel, and then he was a buddy in a lot of ways. I thought the world of him.”

Dressen also toured with Sinatra’s fellow Rat Pack member Sammy Davis Jr., as well as Liza Minnelli, Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight and Tony Orlando.

“He was one of the most brilliant comedians of all time. Tonight, he’ll once again be opening for Dean, Frank and Sammy,” Deana Martin, a daughter of Dean Martin, posted on X.

In 2008, he co-wrote the book “Tim and Tom: An American Comedy Act in Black and White” and in 2020 he authored his memoir.

Dreesen acted in such TV shows as “Columbo,” “Murder, She Wrote,” and “Touched by an Angel.” His film roles included “Spaceballs,” “Man on the Moon” and “Trouble With the Curve,” as well as the HBO movies “The Rat Pack” and “Lansky.”

Dreesen was active in charitable work, motivational speaking and veterans’ causes, including serving as ambassador for the Gary Sinise Foundation.

“America lost one of our great comedians and patriots, and I lost a dear friend,” Sinise posted on X.

He was born on Sept. 11, 1939, in Chicago and raised as one of eight children in suburban Harvey. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and after getting out in 1960 he returned home to work a series of jobs, including selling insurance.

Dreesen is survived by daughters Amy and Jennifer from his marriage to Maryellen Subock, which ended in divorce in 1984, as well as seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Tommy.

Bo Bichette has more to give Mets after extending multi-hit streak

CINCINNATI — Bo Bichette was just getting started when he singled in the first inning Wednesday.

As has been the case lately, a Bichette hit spawns at least another from the veteran infielder. On this day he finished 3-for-4 with a walk, leading the offensive attack in the Mets’ 9-1 victory over the Reds.

It was a sixth straight multihit game for the sizzling Bichette.

“I am just competing and the ball is finding grass,” said Bichette, who owns a 1.039 OPS in June.

Bichette’s multihit game streak is the third longest in franchise history. Steve Henderson had eight straight such games in 1979 and David Wright had seven in 2011.

But Bichette said he’s not exactly in a zone where he believes a hit is forthcoming with each plate appearance.

“I think there’s a lot of at-bats right now that I can still have better at-bats,” Bichette said. “It’s not perfect. I think I am just making good adjustments from at-bat to at-bat and I think I can make adjustments better from pitch to pitch, but I am not going to complain too much.”

Juan Soto had a three-hit performance batting behind Bichette, giving the Mets another sampling of a tantalizing 1-2 punch.

“That’s what I envisioned,” Bichette said. “He’s a great hitter. I’m a great hitter, so it’s my vision. It’s fun scoring runs.”

Bichette’s resurgence has fueled a lineup still awaiting Francisco Lindor’s return from a left calf strain.

“[Bichette] is a really good player, and it was just a matter of time,” manager Carlos Mendoza said. “Now we are starting to see that consistently.”

A.J. Ewing’s diving catch in center field in the third inning helped Nolan McLean escape with only one unearned run allowed. The Reds had the bases loaded with one out

“It kept a lot of runs off the board and I think it gave us momentum going into the later parts of the game,” McLean said.
