DOJ probes JPMorgan, Citigroup over Iran Supreme Leader Khamenei’s money flows: report

The Department of Justice is reportedly looking into JPMorgan and Citigroup as part of an investigation into Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s trail of money flows through the US.

Amid a broader effort to crack down on money laundering and corruption, officials have launched a probe into how Khamenei has managed to build up a massive investment portfolio with exposure to Wall Street banks, Bloomberg reported, citing anonymous officials.

Investigators are examining large money movements between firms overseen by Khamenei – and whether US financial institutions, including JPMorgan and Citi, helped facilitate those transactions, according to the report.

The DOJ and Citi declined to comment. JPMorgan did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Along with US banks, European and Middle Eastern lenders are reportedly facing scrutiny in the probe. Global brands that received payments from the network, like Hilton Worldwide Holdings, are, too.

That’s because the Iranian leader’s network – which includes everything from Persian Gulf shipping to British luxury property – has routed its funds through banks in the UK, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and the United Arab Emirates, Bloomberg reported.

It’s possible that the investigation will not result in any charges. The DOJ’s main goal is to find any gaps in the US banking system that could be allowing Khamenei’s money to flow through the country, according to the report.

Khamenei was named the Supreme Leader in June, after his father was killed in US-Israeli air strikes early in the war with Iran. The new ruler was reportedly severely injured in the strikes and has not been seen in public since taking office.

The Justice Department has warned that Iran is actively trying to break its way into the US financial system.

“The efforts collectively of the government over the last 10 years have really driven Iran out of legitimate financial institutions,” Molly Moeser, who runs the DOJ’s money laundering division, said in May at an industry conference in New York.

But “because the US dollar is still the most stable currency and the currency everybody wants to make payments in, Iran looks for every opportunity to use shell companies, use shadow structures to still get access to the US dollar,” she warned.

Prior to becoming the Supreme Leader, Khamenei used Ali Ansari, a financier, as a conduit for shifting funds overseas, using shell companies to buy luxury homes and five-star hotels across Europe – including several run by Hilton, Bloomberg previously reported.

Ansari was slapped with sanctions in October 2025 for allegedly “financially supporting” Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. His lawyer has denied any ties to Khamenei.

The ruler was personally sanctioned by the US in 2019 for acting on behalf of his father and working closely with the commander of the IRGC, according to the Treasury Department.

Over the past few months, multiple entities in Khamenei’s empire have shifted from being filed under Ansari’s name to others close to the ruler – a possible attempt to conceal ownership, an official told Bloomberg.

After the outlet’s earlier reporting on Khamenei’s shady transactions, Hilton launched an internal investigation over whether it was putting itself at risk of sanctions by keeping its ties to two of its hotels in Germany – the Hilton Frankfurt City Centre and the Hilton Frankfurt Gravenbruch, the report said.

Advisers warned the hotel chain that it could face regulatory and reputational issues if it did not cut ties with the two hotels, according to Bloomberg. Booking options for both hotels are still listed on the Hilton website.

Hilton did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Neiman Marcus to lay off 67 employees as landmark Dallas flagship slated to close

The landmark Dallas Neiman Marcus flagship is closing its doors after more than a century on Sept. 30 — laying off 67 employees in the luxury retailer’s home town.

The layoffs were disclosed in a government filing by parent company Saks Global – which filed for bankruptcy protection in January.

The positions being eliminated include sales associates, tailors and employees of the retailer’s posh restaurant, Zodiac Room.

The nine-story Renaissance Revival tower at 1618 Main St. — which first opened in 1914 and housed the company’s headquarters until 2022 — employed more than 200 workers in better times, according to former employees.

The fact that it’s whittled down to 67, said one veteran, is a “reflection of the lack of inventory, lack of [customer] traffic and the realization the store wasn’t worthy of further investment.”

Shortly after Saks Global acquired Neiman Marcus for $2.6 billion in 2024, the company announced plans to close the Dallas store – only to reverse its decision after local pols pressured the company to keep it open.

Saks Global blamed the closure at the time on a bizarre situation involving a co-owner of the building who controlled the land under its escalator bank and who declined to renew its lease with the retailer.

The company’s far more successful NorthPark Dallas location, which has been earmarked for a $100 million renovation, will be the only remaining Neiman Marcus in Dallas.

Some store employees affected by the layoffs will be offered transfers to NorthPark, the company said.

The Dallas store “is not profitable, and so I think that (the) customer has decided where she or he wants to access the Neiman Marcus brand,” Geoffroy van Raemdonck, chief executive of Saks Global told The Dallas Morning News when he first announced the store closure on June 2.

The NorthPark store does more than 10 times the sales of the downtown site, according to the report.

Neiman Marcus’ departure is a blow to struggling downtown Dallas, which is losing a slew of big corporations, including AT&T and the Dallas Stars hockey team which are both relocating to Plano.

The Dallas Mavericks are also leaving the American Airlines Center.

It’s not clear what will happen to the downtown store building. Saks Global is among several owners of the real estate, the company said.

21-year-old man is charged with a hate crime after setting a cross on fire in Chicago park

A 21-year-old man has been charged with a hate crime, arson and other offenses for a cross that was set on fire in a Chicago park, police said.

Merlin Lu admitted to a TV station this week that he was responsible for the cross burning in Grant Park on June 9.

But he insisted that he was protesting President Donald Trump and was not using the cross as a historical symbol of hate and intimidation against Black people.

Chicago Police Department released on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the booking photo of Merlin Lu, who has been charged with a hate crime and other offenses in the burning of a cross in Chicago’s Grant Park. Chicago Police Department via AP
Lu, at the time, was a person of interest in the cross burning and was captured on surveillance video in Chicago. Chicago Police Department

Lu has been charged with four felonies and four misdemeanors, including a hate crime and burning a cross to intimidate, police said in a statement released Wednesday night.

“I understand why it was interpreted that way, and I apologize for that, but no, the intent was not there,” Lu told WMAQ-TV before his arrest.

It was not immediately known Thursday if Lu has an attorney who could speak on his behalf. He was scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing.

“I did know about this historical relevance beforehand. But I didn’t know the severity, how racially motivated it may seem from what I did,” Lu told the TV station. “Cause my protest has nothing to do with race, nothing to do with gender.”

A motorist, Keinika Carlton, captured a video showing the wooden cross engulfed in flames as it leans against a tree in Grant Park on Tuesday, July 9, 2026. AP

Lu said he was protesting the “ruling class” and Christian nationalists who support Trump.

Someone put a large, multicolored, glass fiber heart with the word “resilient” in the place where the burning cross stood in the park.

Lu’s LinkedIn page says he has attended college in Indiana and Chicago and was studying chemistry.

Daveigh Chase’s family accuses star’s boyfriend of pocketing GoFundMe

The family of “Lilo & Stitch” star Daveigh Chase has claimed her boyfriend is capitalizing off a GoFundMe after he announced she had died earlier this week.

Chase’s relatives said the fundraiser is unnecessary because they have “plenty of means” to take care of the child actress’ funeral arrangements, agent and longtime friend John Ryan told The California Post.

Roy Hernandez said he set up the fundraiser for Chase after revealing she had died in hospital following a battle with meningitis.

But her family has separated themselves from the fundraiser, saying they have no involvement and claiming Hernandez is using it for his own benefit.

Ryan said: “John [Schwallier] is next of kin and never signed any paperwork over to this so-called boyfriend. Daveigh’s estate has plenty of means to pay for the cremation.

“This so-called ‘boyfriend’ that none of her friends or family have heard of has started a GoFundMe under Daveigh’s name.

“That GoFundMe is not going toward ANY expenses for Daveigh. Myself, her father, her uncle and all of us close friends who knew her for decades are encouraging people not to donate to this page.”

The family has reported the fundraiser to the platform, but it remains up as of Thursday morning.

The GoFundMe has received more than $4,000 in donations. Hernandez’s name is in the URL for the profile under her name. The profile highlights Chase as “Daveigh Chase original voice of lilo in ‘Lilo and stitch.’”

Under the “what they care about” section, it says: “I hope I made to a lot of people happy as Lilo now times goes on and life hit me with a truck now I hope i helped your childhood now I need help.”

Hernandez writes that Chase met her while homeless and left the entertainment industry “because of medical issues.” GoFundMe

Before the most recent fundraiser, Hernandez started two others in Chase’s name. Neither gained any traction, but features different wording highlighting key details in their relationship.

In one, he claims Chase “finally agreed” to go to the hospital when she started losing weight. He said the doctors told her the medicine “wasn’t working” and that “she is passing away.”

“Despite everything, Daveigh wants to spend her remaining time with me, comfortable and together, rather than in a hospital,” he writes. He says the funds will be used to “get a place where we can be together and comfortable, giving her the chance to spend her time surrounded by love.”

Before the most recent fundraiser, Hernandez started two other fundraisers in Chase’s name. GoFundMe

In the other GoFundMe, Hernandez writes that Chase met her while homeless and left the entertainment industry “because of medical issues.”

“I helped her find a safe place to sleep and feel secure. We would spend hours together, talking and dreaming about the future,” he wrote.

Hernandez claimed that one of Chase’s “biggest wishes” was to take him to a redwood forest, where he’s never been.

“She wanted to show me the beauty of nature and share that experience with me. I finally made plans for us to go, but now, because she’s so sick, we can’t,” he wrote.

A video taken months before her passing showed Chase in a horrible state, looking extremely thin on the floor of what looked like a tent on Skid Row. She struggled with addiction in her final months.

She was hospitalized on June 7, her father, John, told The Post, at Los Angeles General Medical Center.

He learned she was near-death in the hospital on Tuesday and drove to her from Las Vegas. As he arrived, she was dead.

John quickly grew suspicious of Hernandez and plans to call the Los Angeles Police Department because he felt Hernandez wanted Chase’s money.

Her manager is similarly suspicious after Chase was admitted to the hospital severely underweight.

“This guys trying to make it look like a Romeo and Juliet situation to benefit his own pockets,” he claimed. Hernandez told TMZ on Wednesday that it is “100 percent” false to suggest the GoFundMe is illegitimate.

The former actor, who also played Samara Morgan in “The Ring,” died with millions of dollars in unclaimed residual checks waiting for her. Her manager of more than a decade said she was “too far gone” to claim the checks.

Blake Corum and his wife make a hilarious video outside of a TJ Maxx

It appears Los Angeles Rams running back and his wife, Makiah Corum, are making the most of the offseason.

A recent video has surfaced online of Blake and Makiah poking fun at his wife’s spending habits. Primarily at TJ Maxx.

Makiah is seen mimicking the audio in the video, saying “Clap if you’re against… it,” then pointing at the TJ Maxx sign before saying: “Jokes on him, I already shopped online.”

Immediately after her part of the video ends, the camera pans over to Blake, clapping his hands, who follows it up with a hilarious jump into an action pose.

When the Corums haven’t had a chance to relax and have fun, they’ve been busy at home taking care of their newborn child as they welcomed in their daughter, Zara Corum, this past March.

Blake and Makiah have been together since 2022, when they met while attending Michigan. Blake was a standout football player, while Makiah was actively involved in her academic and advocacy work on campus.

In June, 2024, Blake proposed to Makiah, and the two got married in April, 2025.

Blake was originally scheduled to be at the Rams mandatory minicamp this week, until head coach Sean McVay decided to cancel the camp as a way to allow players to get a head start on their summer break.

The summer break is the final break of the offseason for NFL players until they return to their teams for training camp. Once teams start training camp, it’s a full-on sprint the rest of the way as it’s the final workout program of the offseason.

The Rams have not announced when they will return to training camp, but usually, teams begin camp during the final week of July and will have it go on for a month’s duration.

Blake Corum is coming off his second season in the NFL, where he saw a major increase in workload production, carrying the ball 145 times for 746 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Blake spent last season sharing snaps with Kyren Williams, who took the majority of the load last season and is expected to again this season, for a Rams team that has aspirations of winning the franchise’s third Super Bowl.

Josh Hart celebrates among fans during wild Knicks parade moment

Josh Hart is living his best life.

The Knicks wing celebrated with fans while DMX’s “Ruff Ryder’s Anthem” blasted during the ticker-tape parade Thursday.

Joining the crowd is not the only thing Hart has done for the fans during the parade; he also signed a jersey for an NYPD officer.

The former Villanova Wildcat has become a man of the people in New York for his blue-collar style of play, which had him grabbing 8.9 rebounds per game in the 2026 NBA Playoffs.

“This city is built on toughness, grit, blue-collar people,” Hart said before Game 5.

“I feel like I’m the same person. They can look in the mirror, they can see themselves, just because that’s how I look at myself. I just happen to hoop.”

Hart has been the spiritual and energy leader for the Knicks all season, but his efforts were best displayed during Game 1 of the NBA Finals when he became the first player in an NBA Finals game to lead both teams outright in rebounds (15), assists (6) and steals (4).

Throughout the entire finals, Hart seemed to be in the right spot at the right time nearly the entire time.

He averaged 7.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.4 steals in the five-game finals.

“I think the city really embraced me, my style of play, me as a person,” Hart said. “When you do that, you feel like you’re able to go out there and play your best.”

Warriors offer to LeBron James revealed

The possibility of LeBron James’ time as a Laker could be coming to an end.

According to ESPN NBA insider Anthony Slater, the Golden State Warriors are willing to offer James a full non-taxpayer midlevel, team-friendly deal of $15.1 million next season.

Slater also added that the Warriors’ sales pitch to James could also include a player option for a second season, and that the team could get Steph Curry in on the recruitment process, but they haven’t explored that option yet.

In the past, James has voiced how much he’s enjoyed playing alongside Curry, calling it “Everything and more.”

If James decides to come back and play in his 24th season, he will still be considered one of the top free agents available this offseason after averaging 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists per game, and would make any team he plays for a legitimate title contender.

James will turn 42 in December and is nearing the end of a Hall of Fame career.

But like James, Curry is also nearing the end of his basketball career, after winning 4 championships, 2 MVP awards, and being selected as a 12-time All-Star.

With the days numbering down, the Warriors are looking to win one more title while Curry is still in the building.

If the Warriors manage to convince James to head up north and join forces with Curry, they will have a team that features the two of them, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler.

While the Warriors are heavily interested in acquiring James, Slater did note that team sources have indicated to him that it appears more likely that a reunion between James and the Lakers seems more likely.

Clerk who torpedoed Alex Murdaugh’s case claims immunity in lawsuity

The South Carolina court clerk who torpedoed Alex Murdaugh’s double murder case offered a ridiculous excuse for why Murdaugh’s lawsuit against her should be tossed.

Rebecca “Becky” Hill, the disgraced clerk in Colleton County, said she should benefit from “quasi-judicial immunity” and therefore shouldn’t have to face Murdaugh’s civil claims that she interfered with the jury that convicted him.

Hill also claimed that she shouldn’t be on the hook for damages to reimburse him for legal costs of defending his murder case because he would have been forced to dish out the money for his defense regardless of her meddling.

The court clerk who torpedoed Alex Murdaugh’s double murder conviction offered a ridiculous reason for why she shouldn’t have to face a lawsuit by Murdaugh. AP

The legal costs “are not traceable to [Hill’s] actions,” according to court papers she filed Thursday in the federal case.

Hill’s memoir, “Behind the Doors of Justice: The Murdaugh Murders,” was pulled from shelves after it was revealed she plagiarized the preface from a BBC journalist.

Murdaugh, a 57-year-old disbarred lawyer, is seeking $600,000 in damages against Hill on allegations she tried to sway the jury to find him guilty of killing his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul in 2021.

His May suit came days after South Carolina’s Supreme Court overturned his conviction finding Hill had “placed her fingers on the scales of justice.”

Hill was sentenced to probation after copping to charges of obstruction of justice, perjury and misconduct in office for showing sealed crime scene photos to a reporter and lying about it.

She also admitted to using her position to try to push the sale of her book about the trial.

Hill also made comments to the jury telling them not to be “fooled,” “confused” or “thrown off” by Murdaugh and she had private conversations with the jury foreperson behind closed doors, Murdaugh’s suit alleged.

Murdaugh is still behind bars serving a 40-year federal sentence and a 27-year state sentence on convictions he stole from his clients.

Prosecutors have said they planned to retry the case against him.

After a dramatic six-week trial in 2023, a jury found Murdaugh guilty of fatally shooting his 22-year-old son and 52-year-old wife near the dog kennels at their sprawling hunting estate on June 7, 2021.

Prosecutors have said Murdaugh was motivated to kill his family members to stop his criminal financial dealings from coming out in an unrelated lawsuit by the family of 19-year-old Mallory Beach, who died after a drunken boat crash by Murdaugh’s son.

Murdaugh’s lawyer declined to comment Thursday.
