The body of a nine-year-old girl, whose parents and younger brother were found allegedly drowned in the Muvattupuzha river in the past two days, was recovered from the river on Sunday (June 27, 2026).

The body was found off a ghat near the Excise office in Piravom by a search team in the morning.

The body of her father Narayanan, 43, a native of Palakkad, was recovered from the waters near Mulakkulam-Paittakuzhi bridge on Saturday (June 26, 2026), a day after his wife Viji, a 40-year-old visually-impaired woman, and their two-year-old son were found dead in the river.

Police sources said they suspect it to be a death linked to financial distress.

The police have found CCTV footage showing the family in Piravom on Thursday (June 25, 2026).

The Kothamangalam police said Narayanan and his family had approached them seeking financial assistance and the police had arranged a rented house for them and promised all help.

The Piravom police have registered a case over unnatural deaths and launched a probe into the incident.

The bodies of Narayanan, Viji and their son were handed over to a relative of the woman after the post-mortem. The body of the girl has been shifted to the Government medical College, Kalamassery for autopsy.
