The Centre rushed Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Kiren Rijiju to Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) to assess flood damage. Torrential rains have claimed three lives in the State since June 24.

The deluge has battered Assam’s Dhemaji district downstream of Arunachal Pradesh’s Siang region, affecting 45,841 people across 188 villages. The district also reported the first human casualty of the year in Assam — a woman in the Sissiborgaon area.

Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for deputing the two Ministers to assess the ground situation, Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu said his government’s immediate priority was to ensure swift relief for every affected family, restore essential services, and expedite reconstruction.

He said that he accompanied Mr. Chouhan and Mr. Rijiju to Keyi Panyor, one of the worst-affected districts, on Tuesday to assess the situation first-hand, review the ongoing response, and understand the immediate requirements of the communities.

The Chief Minister also called on Governor K. T. Parnaik, a retired Lieutenant General, to brief him on the prevailing flood situation and the measures undertaken by the government to provide relief and ensure the safety of the marooned.

12 districts affected

According to the Arunachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, 12 of the State’s 28 districts have been affected. The floods have damaged arterial roads and bridges, cutting off at least five districts, and damaging scores of homes.

On June 24, five people went missing after flash floods hit a hydropower project colony in the Keyi Panyor district. Rescue workers have retrieved three bodies, including those of two women, so far.

Meanwhile, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority said that the Brahmaputra and the Disang Rivers were in spate, flowing above the danger level at Neamatighat and Nanglamuraghat, respectively. Authorities have set up 10 relief camps for 486 affected people.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said he was monitoring the flood situation. “My Cabinet colleagues and MLAs are on the ground overseeing relief efforts, implementing protection measures, and ensuring timely assistance,” he said.
