HYDERABAD

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has cautioned people about the ‘designs’ of BRS leaders, recalling the ‘unkept promises’ such as three acre land to Dalits and job opportunities for the youth. He alleged that BRS chief and former CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s family members were “competing with one another in lying to the people”.

“They (K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao) are claiming that KCR will return. Who wants him to come back?” he asked, adding that the previous rulers were so “shameless that they even overheard the conversations between a wife and husband by tapping their phones.”

Mr. Revanth Reddy, while speaking at the Rythu Ashirwad Sabha here on Tuesday, was equally critical of the BJP charging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not fulfil even one of his main promises like depositing ₹15 lakh into every account, creation of two crore jobs a year or making farming remunerative. The BJP leaders were however campaigning with the slogan that “Mr. Modi will come to help the people of Telangana”.

“You (the BJP) have managed to win in West Bengal after struggling for 15 years. The victory was mainly because of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The situation is not the same here as people are prepared to teach a fitting lesson to those intending to cheat them,” he said.

Special session

The Chief Minister reiterated his call for convening a special session of the legislature where elaborate discussion could be taken up on 10-year rule of the BRS, 12-year rule of Mr. Modi and the 30-month tenure of the Congress Government. “They (the BJP leaders) site Mr. Modi for every thing. Will he come and do sanitation work here?” he asked. All that the Prime Minister did to Telangana was give two jobs (Union Ministers) to the State, he said.

Explaining about the ‘destruction’ of all systems including the State finances during the BRS tenure, the Chief Minister said Telangana which was surplus State in 2014 was saddled with debt of over ₹8.11 lakh crore when the BRS stepped down. The Government faced severe hardship in managing finances and fulfilling its promises and had taken steps to see that the economy was back on track. “From a situation where paying salaries in time was tough, we have salvaged the finances to some extent,” he said.

The Chief Minister said he was not hankering for power or posts but was firm on being recognised as a man who keeps his words. He said he (Mr. Revanth Reddy) was therefore keeping people aware of the situation every time right from the release of white paper on State finances immediately after assuming power. This after officials asked him not to reveal the actual situation as it would be difficult to raise loans. “Even NTR and Indiramma (former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi) lost power. I am not hankering after the posts,” he said.
