The Ernakulam district court on Tuesday directed the police to register a case and investigate the complaint filed by actor Ansiba Hassan against fellow actor Tiny Tom.

Ms. Hassan had filed a petition challenging the police decision not to file an FIR on her complaint despite being continuously subjected to alleged harassment, obscene remarks, gender-based insults and communal comments, including imputations regarding her parentage, family life and religious identity.

The actor approached court, claiming that Kadavanthra police declined to register a case despite submitting complaints and providing statements. She argued in her petition that the offence attracted punishment under Sections 74 (criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 75(iv) (making sexually coloured remarks), 79 (word, gesture or act to insult modesty), 299 (deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the religious feelings) and 302 (with the deliberate intention of wounding the religious feelings) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 119(a) of the Kerala Police Act.

However, the Kadavanthra police said that they had not yet received the order and that necessary action would be taken on receiving it.
