KHAMMAM
CPI (M) State Secretariat Member Pothineni Sudarshan Rao has alleged that the Congress government is showing apathy towards the Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project (SLIP), delaying its completion.
Addressing the media in Khammam on Thursday, he said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, during a meeting held in Wyra in 2024, had assured substantial fund allocation to ensure the completion of the SLIP by August 2026. However, the assurance has remained unfulfilled, he alleged.
Mr. Rao said the SLIP has the potential to irrigate seven lakh acres in the combined Khammam district and Mahabubabad district.
Recalling the struggle spearheaded by the CPI (M) for the project, he said that CPI (M) Central Committee member and former Khammam MP Tammineni Veerabhadram, along with himself, had undertaken a padayatra in 2003 for the Dummugudem (Sitarama) project.
Mr. Rao demanded that the Chief Minister clarify the government’s stand on the completion of the SLIP during his forthcoming public meeting, titled “Rythu, Praja Aashirwada Sabha” scheduled to be held in Chintakani of Khammam district on June 30.
CPI (M) district secretary Nunna Nageshwara Rao and other party leaders were present.
