As part of the National Electricity Safety Week 2026, which is being observed from June 26 to July 2, the Electricity Department is creating awareness on the safe use of electricity.
Organised under the theme ‘Today’s Awareness, Tomorrow’s Prevention,’ the awareness campaign focuses on prioritising the safe use of electricity as rising temperatures increase the risk of electrical fires.
The Department urged consumers not to overload sockets and extensions, to check wires regularly for any cuts or damage, to use MCBs and RCBOs for extra protection, to unplug appliances when not in use, especially during extreme heat, to get electrical systems inspected by qualified electricians, and to ensure proper ventilation for electrical panels and appliances as part of a safety checklist.
