Charging Opposition party Bharat Rashtra Samithi with “destroying every system including agriculture” during its 10-year tenure, Ministers said that the Congress Government is trying to reverse the fortunes of the farm sector through sustained efforts.

The proactive steps taken by the State Government ensured that Telangana stood number one in the country achieving paddy production of 2.88 lakh metric tonnes while the Government has spent over ₹1.56 lakh crore on farmers’ welfare since it came to power 30 months ago. They criticised the main Opposition for its attempts to tarnish the image of the people centric government with false propaganda.

The Ministers were speaking at the meeting convened on Tuesday to credit the Vaanakalam (kharif) installment of Rythu Bharosa into farmers’ accounts.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka criticised the BRS Government for pushing the State into a debt trap. “They (BRS leaders) have no moral right to speak about farmers. Farmers should reject the false narratives and baseless propaganda being spread by BRS leaders K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao,” he said.

Mr. Harish Rao and KTR who served as Ministers for 10 years were together “spinning new lies every day and misleading the people”. “Their irresponsible statements are unfortunate,” he said criticising them for making baseless allegations against the Government. He said the previous Government spent ₹2.88 lakh crore on farmers in 10 years averaging about ₹30,364 crore a year and ₹2,532 crore a month. In contrast, the Congress Government had spent ₹1.56 lakh crore in 30 months, averaging about ₹5,217 crore a month, on farmers’ welfare.

He said the Government was saddled with a burden of ₹8.11 lakh crore debt incurred by the previous regime and the present Government had spent about ₹2.08 lakh crore in two and a half years on repayment of interest and principal to banks.

Civil Supplies and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Government had spent over ₹80,000 crore since the Congress came to power on procurement of paddy from farmers transferring the amounts directly into their accounts. It was one of the biggest direct financial interventions undertaken by any State government for the farming community.

Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao presided over the meeting.
