The ninth anniversary of the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was celebrated at GST Bhavan in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday, with officials highlighting the indirect tax regime’s expanding taxpayer base and sustained revenue growth.
Presiding over the function, Tirupati CGST Commissioner Satish Dhawale said the taxpayer base had grown to 1.5 crore since the rollout of GST in 2017, while monthly GST collections had risen to nearly ₹2 lakh crore. He said the proposed GST 2.0 reforms envisaged rationalisation and reduction of tax rates without compromising revenue growth, attributing the trend to increased consumption. He also underscored the slogan ‘Sugam Kar Sashakt Bharat’.
VSEZ Development Commissioner M. Srinivas said close coordination among the SEZ, GST and Customs administrations had helped create a business-friendly ecosystem, benefiting exporters and facilitating trade. Taxpayers and departmental officers were felicitated during the programme.
