1. SIR in Karnataka: Door-to-door enumeration begins from Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s home
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on June 30, 2026, launched the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka by filling up and submitting his Enumeration Form at his Sadashivanagar residence, while appealing to citizens across the State to participate in the exercise and safeguard their voting rights. Mr. Shivakumar and his wife, Usha Shivakumar, completed the forms in the presence of Bengaluru South Deputy Commissioner and district election officials.
Later speaking to mediapersons, the Chief Minister said the SIR process had formally begun in the State and urged voters to ensure that their details in the electoral rolls were up to date. He said electors would have to furnish the mobile number that had been previously linked to their voter records. Those wishing to change or update their phone number can do so through election officials, after which the one-time password (OTP) would be sent to the registered number.
2. EC steps up digitisation of enumeration forms as SIR begins in Karnataka
The Election Commission has stepped up the digitisation of Enumeration Forms under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka, with district administrations conducting a special drive over the weekend to improve the pace of the exercise which commenced on June 30, 2026.
According to the Commission, all Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers carried out a drive on June 27 and 28 through Booth Level Officers, resulting in a significant increase in both the distribution and digitisation of Enumeration Forms. The Commission stated distribution of forms increased by 4.63% while digitisation rose by 8.28% during the two-day drive.
3. Indian Coast Guard rescues six fishermen stranded in sea off Mangaluru coast
Indian Coast Guard personnel rescued six fishermen from a distressed Indian fishing boat ‘Manju Matha’ in a maritime search and rescue operation off Mangaluru coast on June 29, 2026 evening. The coast guard ship ‘Sachet’ received a distress call from the fishing boat located at about 33 nautical miles off Surathkal coast at about 4 p.m. on June 29.
Fishermen in the boat reported severe flooding and hull damage due to rough sea conditions, placing the lives of all six crew members at imminent risk. The rescue operation was done under extreme weather conditions. The team deployed remote-operated lifebuoys specifically designed for use in inclement sea conditions to safely reach and recover the stranded fishermen.
4. Renowned artist and activist K.T. Shivaprasad passes away at 78
Renowned artist and activist K.T. Shivaprasad passed away at a hospital in Bengaluru on June 30, 2026. He was 78. Mr. Shivaprasad, a resident of Hassan, recently underwent surgery for a kidney infection and had recovered. However, he was admitted to a Bengaluru hospital after developing breathing problems, according to family sources.
Mr. Shivaprasad was widely known for his artistic practice, his work as an architect and photographer, and his steadfast support for the farmers’ movement and the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti Karnataka. Kavishyla, the memorial to Kannada poet and Jnanapeetha awardee Kuvempu that he designed, stands as one of his most significant works.
