Rajendranagar Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) S. Srinivas on Monday inspected the Himayatsagar reservoir and its surrounding areas as part of the Hyderabad Police’s monsoon preparedness measures to review safety arrangements ahead of heavy rainfall.
He was accompanied by the Rajendranagar police inspector, officials of the Irrigation and Water Resources Department and other departmental officers during the inspection.
Officials said, as part of the standard monsoon protocol, Rajendranagar MLA T. Prakash Goud had lifted one of the reservoir’s 17 gates by one foot on Sunday to facilitate the release of water ahead of anticipated inflows.
The DCP reviewed contingency plans for a situation in which heavy rainfall causes the reservoir to reach full capacity, requiring all 17 gates to be opened. He assessed the potential impact on residents in the downstream catchment areas and along the Outer Ring Road.
He directed officials to ensure that adequate precautionary measures are in place so that no danger or inconvenience is caused to the public. He also instructed departments to install clearly visible barricades at vulnerable locations and urged both officials and residents to remain alert and prepared to respond to any emergency.
