A 22-year-old man accused of dealing marijuana to local teenagers has been accused of the rape of a high school girl in a parking structure near campus, court documents say.
Uriel Alegre-Rangel, 22, was charged with felony unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, Mercury News reported.
Alegre-Rangel has pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released from custody while the legal proceedings continue.
The charges, which were filed on May 20, come months after the teenage victim initially reported the assault to law enforcement.

According to the Berkeley Police Department, Alegre-Rangel was taken into custody last December to obtain a DNA sample, which authorities state later matched evidence collected from the victim’s rape kit.
Investigators learned that the 16-year-old victim had originally reached out to Alegre-Rangel on social media with the intent to purchase a marijuana vape pen.

Police reports indicate that the suspect was well-known among the Berkeley High School student body for selling cannabis and tobacco products. Court records note that the victim explicitly stated her age as 16 early in their digital conversation.
The incident took place last October near the campus. The victim informed investigators that during the meeting, Alegre-Rangel attempted to kiss her and “sighed” when she rejected his advances.
According to police accounts detailed in court filings, the situation then turned violent. Police say he then allegedly,” grabbed the victim’s wrists and held her down, and then “removed the victim’s pants and underwear against her will and engaged in sexual intercourse.”
Alegre-Rangel entered a plea of not guilty during a court appearance on June 10.
The case remains pending.
