Knicks fever has fans painting the city orange and blue.
Large murals, splashy window art and bold paintings have been popping up across the city as the squad makes its run for its first NBA title in 53 years.
Scott Zimmerman took over part of the first floor of a building on the corner of East Houston and Eldridge Street to celebrate the Big Apple’s dream team.
The art features a massive, 20-foot-tall portrait of star point guard Jalen Brunson holding a basketball against a deep blue backdrop, with “Let’s Go Knicks” written in the corner.
It took Zimmerman, who has been painting murals on this wall for eight years, four days to complete.
The native New Yorker said he tapped into memories of Knicks posters from his childhood as he painted.
Fans are loving it.
“It has a response I could not have predicted,” the artist said. “It’s having an exceptional response and all universally positive.”
When the Knicks win it all, Zimmerman already knows what he’s going to do: replace the basketball in Brunson’s hand with an image of the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.
“Right now it’s spreading a lot of positivity and I need it to keep doing that,” Zimmerman said. “I’m hoping that they win and I can finalize it with a trophy in the hand.”
Another mural on Troutman Street and St. Nicholas Avenue in Brooklyn included portraits of multiple Knicks stars like Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby, with “Knicks” spelt out in vibrant graffiti lettering.
In Bushwick, an artist who gave his name only as Jason D. said he used a section of the exterior of L Train Vintage Brooklyn to showcase his Knicks love.
It took Jason a day and a half to paint his cartoony tribute to the team, which features Brunson with his trademark three fingers held up and the iconic Knicks crest.
Knicks fans couldn’t contain their excitement as they passed by the work-in-progress, which was created in partnership with the Bushwick Collective.
“Let’s go Knicks!” one jazzed up fan shouted, while another told him, “It’s our year!”
The joy was contagious, Jason said.
“With the Knicks being in the finals, that definitely helps bring the city together,” he said.
