Marlins announcer Tommy Hutton was upset with fans for not celebrating Sandy Alcantara’s record-breaking strikeout before it was announced on the scoreboard.
Alcantara became the Marlins’ all-time strikeout leader during Tuesday night’s 6-4 win over the Rangers.
“The problem I have, most of the fans here tonight should know that without having to look at the scoreboard,” Hutton said.

The whole thing was an awkward situation as the Marlins did not put it on the scoreboard right away, and players had to tell fans to cheer.
At one point in the broadcast, you can hear Hutton seemingly yelling at fans from the broadcaster’s booth to “appreciate it out there.”
“Look at Clayton [McCullough], he is not happy, and neither is that Marlins dugout.” Kyle Sielaff, Hutton’s broadcast partner, said. “They are telling fans to stand up and applaud Sandy [Alcantara].”
Alcantara joined the Marlins for the 2018 season after being traded by the Cardinals. In eight years, he has put up 1,002 strikeouts, 1,177 innings pitched and a 60-71 record in 186 starts.
“Very proud of myself, the way that I’ve been growing here, in this organization, and grateful for all the opportunities that this team gives to me, day by day,” Alcantara said.
“Tonight was a great night for me, for my family, my teammates, the city, everybody who watched the game.”
The right-handed pitcher is already the franchise’s sole National League Cy Young Award winner from 2022.
He is also just the fifth Dominican-born pitcher to reach 1,000 career strikeouts two starts ago against the Pirates.
“A franchise record is a big deal,” McCullough said. “It’s a tough thing to do.
“It takes longevity, it takes certainly to be really good to be able to stay in a place long enough and be able to have an accolade, a record like that.”
