Former Agriculture Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) district president Kakani Govardhan Reddy has alleged that the functioning of the NDA government in the State is lacking in transparency, not only in the execution of works, but also in taking forward the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters’ list currently under way in the district.
A delegation led by him had submitted a representation to the district Collector on Saturday (June 27, 2026). Speaking to a section of the media on Sunday (June 28, 2026), he alleged that government officials were working in favour of the ruling party and against the interest of the YSRCP.
“Even the Election Commission of India (ECI), a supposedly autonomous body, is not allowed to function independently, and there is tremendous pressure on it to toe the line of the ruling party,” he said.
He made a specific reference to district Minister P. Narayana holding a closed-door meeting with the Municipal Corporation Commissioner, the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor and the booth level officers (BLOs), which, he said, was against the spirit of the Constitution.
“I have never seen any political interference in the activities of the ECI in the past, and the special privileges enjoyed by the Minister in the garb of protocol are leading to large-scale violation and lack of transparency in his activities,” he said.
The Opposition parties had no objection to the Minister, who represents a ruling party, holding a meeting with booth level agents alone, but involving the booth level officers in the process was clearly unacceptable, he insisted.
The former Minister said the SIR process, meant to ensure a transparent revision of the voters’ list, should not be used as a tool to remove voters owing allegiance to a particular party.
