Ending the first session of the 16th Kerala Assembly on Wednesday (July 1, 2026), Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said “practical restrictions” will be imposed on visitors to the Assembly from the next session.
The Kerala Assembly had witnessed a huge influx of visitors during its first session after the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government came to power in the State.
The Speaker referred to the matter after Forest Minister Shibu Baby John sought measures to restrict the number of visitors in future. He said that he could not even reach the Assembly hall on time for voting due to the crowds thronging the corridors.
Mr. Radhakrishnan admitted the number of visitors were high this time as the UDF had come to power after 10 years. Many visitors had also accompanied the first-time MLAs, and it was difficult to stop them, he said.
Mr. Radhakrishnan said he had set up a Speaker’s Desk at his office and issued yellow-coloured passes to visitors who were there specifically to meet him.
