Teen California library shooter identified as Bradley Scott Sayer

A gunman who allegedly obsessed over the Columbine school massacre before shooting two people dead in a Northern California library has been identified.

Cops released the mugshot for Bradley Scott Sayer, 18, the morning after he was accused of bursting into Butte County Library and opening fire.

The teenager had only just graduated from Chico High School, with a video from the day showing him looking miserable as he got his diploma before shaking his head as he walked off the stage.

Sayer allegedly killed two people at the library late Monday and also left a child injured.

Police received reports of an active shooter at a Butte County library just past 5 p.m., and rushed to the scene after hearing a 911 call filled with screams and gunfire.

Sayer has been booked into the Butte County Jail on two counts of murder. The FBI is assisting in the investigation into the tragic shooting, as is the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.

A relative of Sayer told The California Post that he was “shocked” about the shooting, but declined to give his name or any more details. He identified Sayer as the shooter.

“The incident tonight was obviously very sad and very traumatic for a lot of people — very traumatic for our community,” Chief Billy Aldridge of the Chico Police Department said during a news conference Monday night.

He appeared to have acted alone, police said.

Sayer allegedly committed the shooting at Butte County Library, which routinely holds events for children and teens. All library branches have been closed on Tuesday after the shooting.

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office issued a statement on the shooting.

“Our hearts are with the Chico community tonight,” Newsom said. “We are grateful to law enforcement for their swift actions to secure the scene and take the suspect into custody. No family should have to endure a tragedy like this. “

Rep. James Gallagher (R-Calif.), who represents Chico, said he is “heartbroken” by the shooting.

“I am heartbroken by the senseless act of violence in Chico tonight and am praying for the victims, their loved ones and everyone impacted by this tragedy.

“Thank you to the brave law enforcement officers and other first responders who responded quickly to protect our community. Chico is strong, and we will stand together in the days ahead,” he said.

The investigation is ongoing, officials said. Police are “conducting interviews, collecting evidence, and reviewing facts of the case.”

Chico is a city about 90 miles north of Sacramento.
