Traitors fans, it’s time to head back to the Scottish Highlands as NBC has officially set a release date for the civilian-led version of the game, now titled The Traitors: New Blood.
On Thursday, the network announced that the series will begin airing on Thursday, September 17, at 8 p.m. EST with a supersized two-hour premiere, introducing the players to the game hosted by Alan Cumming. Unlike the mothership, the series will air on NBC Thursdays and drop new episodes the next day on Peacock.
While fans who tune in seasonally for the original version of the show have at least a general understanding or knowledge of some of the castle competitors who come from Bravo and other reality franchises, the civilian-led season — the first of its kind for NBC and Peacock — welcomes 22 Americans who were “hand-selected from a nationwide search resulting in over 60,000 hopeful applicants,” a release from NBC states.
The announcement comes on the heels of the mega-successful Traitors Season 4, which raked in more than 3.2 billion minutes streamed since it premiered on Jan. 8. The show also saw a sharp 66 percent rise in viewership from Season 3, which won the series the Emmys for Outstanding Reality Competition Program and Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program.
Based on the U.K. version, the series follows a group of Faithfuls working together to find a group of mysterious and anonymous Traitors, who move through the game by “murdering” players weekly and trying to plant seeds of doubt. If the Faithfuls can make it to the end of the game and “banish” all of the Traitors, the remaining group of Faithfuls will split the prize pot of up to $250,000. If even one Traitor remains at the end of the game, that player (or players) will take all of the money.
Most recently, it was Traitor and Love Island alum Rob Rausch who took the prize pot, taking fellow Islander Maura Higgins to the end and blindsiding her in the final moments. Will history repeat itself in the U.S.’s first-ever civilian version as players murder, lie, and steal to win the prize?
Let the games begin.
The first four seasons of The Traitors are now streaming on Peacock.
