Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court grants bail in murder case

The Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court on Wednesday granted bail to two youths who are accused in the murder of a man in front of a bar at Mukkola in Thiruvananthapuram on April 16.

The accused, Achu S. Babu, 24, and Ananthu S.S., 18, of Kottukal had been in judicial custody for 70 days.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred when the duo engaged in an altercation with the victim, Suman, in an inebriated state. The duo allegedly intercepted the victim on the Kovalam service road and repeatedly assaulted him, resulting in his death. The Vizhinjam police arrested them on the same day of the incident.

The court observed that the investigation team has prepared the scene mahazar, recorded witness statements, collected CCTV footage, photographs, and scientific evidence, seized the mobile phones and clothing worn by both the accused and the deceased, recovered the scooter used by the first accused during the crime, and obtained the wound and post-mortem certificates.

Since the key evidence has been secured, the court found that releasing the applicants would not adversely affect the investigation.

The court also imposed stringent bail conditions including a bail bond of ₹50,000 with two solvent sureties of the like sum, stipulation to mark their presence before the investigation officer every Wednesday for the next three months or until the final charge sheet is filed, and strict prohibition from influencing any person or tampering with the evidence. The accused must also not commit any offences while out on bail.
