California just proved it doesn’t do dining quietly.

Two Golden State eateries have landed on Yelp’s newly released ranking of the “most outrageous” restaurants in the United States, a list spotlighting the places that go far beyond dinner and drinks and into full-blown entertainment territory.

Yelp says the selections are based on a mix of overall rating, total reviews, recent activity, and pageviews.

One of the California standouts is Trailer Park After Dark in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, a subterranean bar designed to feel like a tongue-in-cheek, over-the-top trailer park fantasy.

Opened in 2017, the concept was built around giving guests a place “to let loose without the fuss,” according to the venue’s website.

Inside, guests are met with themed trailer-style spaces available to rent, playful cocktails with humorous names, and a menu rooted in comfort food.

The offerings include chicken wings, loaded tater tots, burgers, hot dogs and build-your-own s’mores.

Yelp reviewers highlighted the chaotic charm of the space, praising its quirky decor and playful atmosphere.

The venue holds a 4.2-star rating from 837 reviews on Yelp.

“The first time we came, we didn’t enjoy it. This place was super packed and every table was occupied. It was hard to walk around since there were also a lot of people just standing everywhere, chatting with their drinks,” one reviewer, Michael G., wrote. “But on the second time we visited, we came a bit earlier… and we finally enjoyed this place because we saw all the beauty of the things here.”

Another California entry on the list is the legendary The Magic Castle in Hollywood, a Victorian mansion that has served as the headquarters of the Academy of Magical Arts since 1963.

The invitation-only venue enforces a strict dress code and is known for blending fine dining with live magic performances, close-up illusions, and theatrical stage shows.

Guests can book brunch, dinner, or dessert service, with a menu featuring classic cocktails alongside dishes such as prime rib, pork chops, citrus rosemary chicken, salads, and soups.

The venue holds a 4.1-star rating with more than 3,100 Yelp reviews.

Yelp reviewers describe it as a nostalgic, old-Hollywood experience filled with surprises at every turn.

“There are very few places in Los Angeles that truly feel magical anymore, but The Magic Castle absolutely lives up to the hype,” Yelp reviewer Basilia C. posted.
