Two lorry drivers were arrested by the Rishivandhiyam police at Sandhaimedu near Kallakurichi on Sunday on charges of smuggling 8.3 kg of ganja.
The arrested persons were identified as M. Sathyaraj, 28, of Thalaivasal and C. Arulkumar, 24, of Kaatukottai.
Police said a team was conducting vehicle checks at Sandhaimedu when they intercepted a lorry and conducted searches. The team found bundles of ganja concealed under bags containing maize.
According to the police, during interrogation, the duo claimed that they had procured the ganja from peddlers in Villupuram and were attempting to sell it in Attur and Thalaivasal. The duo was arrested and 8.3 kg of ganja was seized from their possession. A case has been registered.
