If you’re looking to beat the heat with a new psychological thriller, the new Simone Ashley-led (Bridgerton, Sex Education, The Devil Wears Prada 2) mystery This Tempting Madness is now available to rent or purchase on VOD.
Directed by Jennifer E. Montgomery, the film, which is inspired by a true story, centers on Mia (Ashley), a woman who “awakens from a coma grievously injured” after a near-fatal fall. Her memory is also fractured, and her husband (Austin Stowell) is missing. Per the official press release, “as fragments of her past resurface, love, guilt, and fear blur together until she can no longer tell what’s real. Haunted by doubt and desire, Mia’s search for the truth leads her to question not only her past — but herself.”
Zenobia Shroff, Suraj Sharma, Mojean Aria, Auden Thornton, and Amol Shah round out the ensemble.

Who’s In The Cast of This Tempting Madness?
Along with Simone Ashley and Austin Stowell (NCIS: Origins, Bridge of Spies), This Tempting Madness stars Zenobia Shroff, Suraj Sharma, Mojean Aria, Auden Thornton, and Amol Shah.
“I’m incredibly excited to share this immersive psychological thriller with the world,” director Jennifer E. Montgomery said, per Deadline. “Simone’s performance is mesmerizing — bold, vulnerable, and transformative. Austin brings such a layered, compelling complexity to his character. I’m profoundly grateful to our whole cast and crew for their dedication and artistry in bringing this story to life.”
Is This Tempting Madness Based on a True Story?
Yes! The idea came to Montgomery after a close friend suffered a serious accident.
“I would call my friend every morning and speak to her for an hour and then again in the evening and speak to her for an hour,” Montgomery told Screen Daily in June 2025. “[Initially] she could not form short-term memories and we’d repeat the conversation. Eventually, her mind got stronger and she grew to be able to remember what had happened for the entirety of our hour-long phone call.”
Continued Montgomery, “I’d also try to get her to write a journal. At the end, once she was finally able to fully regain her memory and she looked back at the writing, she was like, ‘Oh, wow, this is crazy. Are you going to make it a movie?’”
Is This Tempting Madness On Netflix or Hulu?
Nope. The film isn’t currently streaming on Netflix or Hulu.
There’s no official information as to where This Tempting Madness will be available to stream, but the film was distributed by Vertical. Many of the company’s previous movies have ended up on Hulu (Fast Charlie, The Bayou, The Order, Sacramento), so it’s possible that This Tempting Madness will join them at some point.
