Enola Holmes 3 is now streaming on Netflix, and the young fans of this Sherlock Holmes spin-off series wasted no time in immediately hitting “play” on the third film in the series. Now everyone is wondering: When do we get to watch Enola Holmes 4?
Enola Holmes 3 was directed by Philip Barantini, with a screenplay written by Jack Thorne (who also adapted the first two films, from the Enola Holmes book series by Nancy Springer). The film opens with Enola (Millie Bobby Brown) gearing up to marry the dashing Lord Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge). But the wedding is put on hold when Enola’s brother Sherlock (Henry Cavill) goes missing. Enola, Tewkesbury, and the recently introduced Dr. Watson (Himesh Patel), must work together to figure out who kidnapped the famed detective.
Without giving too much away, the Enola Holmes 3 ending seems to set up a future mystery for a possible Enola Holmes 4 movie. So is Enola Holmes 4 happening? Read on to find out what we know, including a possible Enola Holmes 4 release date.
Will there be an Enola Holmes 4 movie?
There is no official word as to whether Enola Holmes 4 will be happening or not.
When asked if about the possibility of a fourth film in a recent interview with Decider, Himesh Patel—who plays Dr. Watson—said, “I haven’t heard anything. We are just here to enjoy number three coming out into the world. I would love to go again. I’d love to step into those shoes again.”
When asked what he’d like to see for Dr. Watson in future films, Patel replied with a laugh, “A bit more time with Sherlock would be great. Henry seems like a lovely guy. I’d love to spend a bit more time with him.”
That said, if Enola Holmes 3 is a big hit for Netflix, it seems likely that the streamer would be interested in another film. Although the plot of the last two films has not followed the books, there are a total of 10 books in The Enola Holmes Mysteries series by Nancy Springer—meaning there is plenty of original material to mine from for future films.
Whether an Enola Holmes 4 movie happens will most likely depend on two things: One, if the third film is a success. And two, if star and producer Millie Bobby Brown is willing and available to shoot a fourth film.
In an interview with Digital Spy, Brown confirmed she is down for more Enola Holmes movies. “I’ll be there if Netflix is,” Brown said.
When the interviewer suggested that maybe a future movie could feature Enola and Tewkesbury as parents, Brown replied, “Oh my goodness, yeah, Enola as a mum, that would be crazy.”
Partridge, who was paired with Brown in the same interview, seemed less enthusiastic about immediately jumping into a fourth film. “I’ll do one in like 50 years or something,” he said.
In a different interview for ComicBook, Brown said of Enola Holmes 4: “Gosh, I mean, I’m not I’m not the decider in that, but we’ll see how this one does. But yeah, I’m there if Netflix is there and Louis is there.”
That seems like a positive sign for fans wishing for Enola Holmes 4. Now it’s just a matter of how well the film does for Netflix.
What is the Enola Holmes 4 release date?
There is no Enola Holmes 4 release date, given that Enola Holmes 4 has not yet even been green lit.
However, based on the first two films—Enola Holmes came out in 2020, and Enola Holmes 2 came out in 2022—it takes about two to three years of production for each Enola Holmes movie to get made.
So, if we got the news tomorrow that Enola Holmes 4 was happening, you might see Enola Holmes 4 on Netflix around 2028 or 2029.
But this is all hypothetical. For now, just enjoy the Enola and Tewkesbury love story in Enola Holmes 3, now streaming on Netflix.
