Imagine you’re looking for a new apartment and an ad for a reasonably priced two-bedroom rental pops up on Facebook Marketplace. The pictures look incredible. The kitchen has all new appliances, the living room looks spacious and the floors are shiny. The bathroom and master bedroom look enormous. You inquire and schedule a visit.
When you step foot in the unit, you notice the windows are dusty and cracked, and wires are hanging from the ceiling in every room. The kitchen looks like it was previously updated the last time the Knicks won the NBA title before this past week and the floors look like they were (maybe) scrubbed around then, too.
To top it all off, there’s a guy named Marv in the living room watching episodes of “The Golden Palace” on YouTube, and he apparently “comes with” the apartment.
Everything is not always as it seems.
