YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and former minister Ambati Rambabu, in a letter to the SIT probing the alleged custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna, stated that the State owes a moral and constitutional duty to ensure that every person responsible for the death of the young man is identified, prosecuted, and brought to justice.

He stated that the deceased was a citizen of India whose life was protected by the Constitution. But, his death, along with the concealment and disappearance of his body, occurred entirely under the care and control of the police officers.

The SIT should fulfil its duty with seriousness, thoroughness, and impartiality that the gravity of the case demands, he stated, while insisting that justice would not be served if the investigation is narrow, selective, and shields those who are reportedly responsibility for the youth’s death.

The former minister noted that Sai Krishna’s death is not an ordinary case of alleged police excess but represents a brazen assault on the constitutional guarantee against illegal detention, fundamental right to life enshrined under Article 2l of the Constitution, and the foundational principle that every public servant, particularly a member of law enforcement, must answer for his/her acts or omissions before the law.

The circumstances surrounding Sai Krishna’s death in alleged police custody, the alleged disappearance and subsequent handling of his body, and the manner in which the investigation has proceeded thus far point with disturbing clarity to a systematic and institutional effort to shield the actual perpetrators and deflect criminal liability away from those who bear great responsibility for the incident, he added.
