Justice K. Sujana of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the respondents in a criminal petition filed by Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay’s son Bandi Bageerath seeking regular bail in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The notices were issued to the minor’s mother based on whose complaint the POCSO Act case was registered against Bageerath and the Petbasheerabad police of Cyberabad investigating the case. The judge, directing the government counsel to secure instructions in the matter, posted the hearing to Friday.

The petitioner’s counsel contended that Bageerath had been in prison for 49 days having surrendered before the police in the POCSO Act case. While there was inordinate delay of five months in lodging complaint after the alleged crime was committed, the probe was completed by the investigators. There was no need for the petitioner to continue to be in the prison and he would not attempt to tamper with the evidence or further probe in the matter, the counsel said. Bageerath earlier filed an anticipatory bail in the HC which was eventually dismissed by a single judge of the HC.

Detailed report sought

In a separate matter, Justice T. Madhavi Devi of the HC directed the Hyderabad Police Commissioner to file a detailed report over a Sub-Inspector of Madhurangar police station assaulting a retired SI of police in a criminal case.

The petitioner Mohammed Osman’s counsel told the bench that the SI went to the house of the petitioner in a case involving the retired SI’s son and behaved in a high-handed manner. The matter was adjourned after two weeks for next hearing.
