The championship ring promise James Dolan made to Knicks in pre-playoff speech

James Dolan is recognizing the contributions of the Knicks’ significant others.

The Knicks owner spoke to his team on April 3 before their playoff run that ended Saturday with a 94-90 win over the Spurs that clinched the team’s first championship since 1973.

At the time, Dolan assured his players that, should the Knicks bring home the championship, their significant others will also be receiving championship rings in recognition for their contributions and support to the team.

“When we win the championship, we will get rings. When we get rings, so will they,” Dolan told his team.

“I will buy a ring for each one of your significant others, because their contributions are very important to this team win.”

Dolan had jokes too.

“If you don’t have a significant other, most of you do, find someone that you’re sharing this journey with for the next 10 weeks,” Dolan said, which was met with laughs from around the room.

When the Knicks won their championship on Saturday, Dolan, who has owned the team since 1999, addressed Knicks fans everywhere with an apology.

“Hey, New York, I’m sorry it took so long,” Dolan said as the team was presented with the Larry O’Brien trophy, its first in 53 years. “But here we are, and hopefully it won’t take that long again. Yeah!”

After falling behind 2-1 in their first-round series against the Hawks, the Knicks reeled off 13 straight wins and lost just once in that span on their way to defeating the Spurs 4-1 in the Finals.

The Knicks finished the playoffs with a point differential of +283, the biggest in NBA history.

Broadway still netting $550M COVID-era taxpayer ‘bailout’

The fat lady has sung, but try telling that to Albany.

Gov. Hochul and the state legislature are still using taxpayer funds for a COVID-era giveaway for Broadway flops — and even quietly boosted the pot by $150 million in this year’s budget.

“This is another New York taxpayer subsidy for wealthy investors that should not exist,” said John Kaheny, executive director of the government watchdog group Reinvent Albany.

“New York State taxpayers should not be underwriting Broadway shows. There’s no fiscal or economic argument for it,” he said.

The massive special-interest goodie — a k a the NYC Musical and Theater Production Tax Credit — was started during the pandemic to help keep even traditional theater hits such as “The Lion King” and “Wicked” afloat during the dark times.

The financial break, similar to a separate pandemic-era subsidy for film and TV productions in New York, started as a $100 million emergency program but has steadily increased in the years since — despite Broadway’s attendance and gross revenues recovering post-pandemic.

The program’s pot is jumping $150 million this fiscal year — up from $400 million to $550 million.

A theater show can receive tax credits of 25 percent of qualified expenditures — or up to $3 million per production — under the program.

Hundreds of millions of its dollars have supported short-run flops including “KPOP,” “Tammy Faye” and “Mrs. Doubtfire,” as well as box-office behemoths such as “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Chicago The Musical,” “The Lion King,” “Wicked,” “The Book of Mormon,” “Aladdin,” “Hadestown” and “Moulin Rouge!” according to nysfocus.com in March.

The site noted that some of the shows received millions of dollars after they had already closed.

For example, the doomed 2024 musical “Tammy Faye” netted $2.5 million from the taxpayer-funded program earlier this year — although it had shuttered for months, after just 29 shows, nysfocus said.

“KPOP” only lasted two weeks, yet netted nearly $2 million from state coffers nearly a year later, the website said.

Kaehny said theater companies and the the unions representing workers flex their political muscles through campaign donations and organizing and are “being rewarded with hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars.”

Hochul and state lawmakers are up for re-election this year.

The program is described on the Empire State Development Corp. website as a tax break “to jump start the entertainment industry and support tourism in New York City.

“The Program encourages Musical and Theatrical productions to begin performances sooner and come back stronger,” it says. “The Program will offset some of the additional costs associated with producing a show as New York’s economy recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic “

Hochul’s office defended the Broadway tax credit as still crucial to stabilize the theater district and and maintain and generate jobs for New Yorkers.

“In a brutally competitive market, the credit keeps major productions opening, rehearsing and hiring in New York State. Calling this a `reward’ ignores basic math,” a Hochul rep told said.

“If a show doesn’t come here, New Yorkers get zero jobs, zero hotel stays, zero restaurant checks, and zero tax revenue.”

The governor’s representative said the credit is “performance-based” and tied to “real spending and real employment” that helps sustain “tens of thousands of good paying jobs for stagehands, musicians, carpenters, costumers and front of house workers whose livelihoods depend on Broadway.

“The governor will always be proud to stand up for workers and the cultural and tourism economy that helps define New York,” the rep said.

Since the program’s inception, participating productions have generated more than 31,000 hires across New York, according to the governor’s office.

The Broadway League, the trade group which represents theater owners and operators and producers, had no comment.

Knicks fans wait hours, line up for blocks to buy champ gear as merch madness takes NYC

The lines outside the NBA Store snaked around the block in Midtown Monday, as Knicks merchandise has become the Big Apple’s biggest commodity following the teams historic NBA championship.

Thousands of diehard fans waited anxiously outside the Fifth Avenue retailer for over an hour for a slim shot at any remaining Knicks gear — still a better bet than ordering team merchandise online, which would mean the deliveries won’t come for at least a month.

“The line is an hour and a half,” Brooklyn fan Ron JN Baptist told The Post. “By the time I got in there there were no finals jerseys, no patches, they were all sold out! I wanted the patches! I came for the patches! They said they were getting more in by Wednesday or Thursday.”

Knicks fever continues to sweep the New York metro area after the team beat the San Antonio Spurs in five games to bring home its first NBA championship since 1973, led by finals MVP guard Jalen Brunson.

“I came for the Brunson jerseys, the patches and hats for my son,” South Ozone Park resident Paul Seepaul said. “I bought some stuff online but July 20 was the earliest they could get it to us and I plan to take my son to the parade on Thursday.”

The scheduled ticker-tape parade for the champs down the Canyon of Heroes could be the largest in the city’s history, Mayor Zohran Mamdani told reporters on Monday.

Fans outside the NBA Store, where the line stretched around the corner and onto Madison Avenue, said they were hoping to suit up in Knicks merch for the parade — but it got harder and harder to find gear.

Ed L., 55, Flushing Qns resident, works at Citi Field in the warehouse.

“I had to come here because online you have to wait until next month,” said a Flushing resident who only identified himself as Ed L. “The 26th of July was the earliest delivery I could get.”

He settled for a $50 Knicks shirt.

Long Island construction contractor Will Crespo said he fared well, and even picked up three gold “championship chains” that he plans to wear for Thursday’s parade.

“I also bought hats,” Crespo said. “I bought a t-shirt, but they ran out of the sizes of the … finals shirt I wanted. And the hats, they ran out of the ones with the champion patch on the side.

“There was just too much mayhem in there.”

Marshall Acton Bluetooth speaker is nearly half off ahead of Prime Day

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Marshall speakers for both their bass and retro design (editor’s note: absolutely, same).

The Marshall Acton III is currently on sale for almost half off, bringing it down to its Black Friday price, even before Prime Day has started.

Marshall Acton III Bluetooth Home Speaker
Amazon

On sale in all three colors, including my all-time favorite color, cream, this booming speaker hits all the high and low notes without giving out. There are both bass and treble controls on the physical speaker itself, meaning you don’t need an app to help adjust your soundstage.

The speaker connects seamlessly through Bluetooth, too, and you won’t face connection losses or lags as you party all night. There’s even a 3.5 mm input if you need it.

It’s super easy to set up, too. I’ve been able to get my speakers ready to go in seconds, not minutes.

The best part about the Marshall Acton III has to be its sound. You’ll get clear, room-filling bass even at low volumes. Its compact size also means you can move it across your apartment with ease.

If you’re looking for one of the best Prime Day speaker deals, this Marshall speaker that’s almost half off is worth buying. Shop it now before stock sells out in your preferred color.

Historic NBA Championship fuels record-breaking sales of New York Knicks merch on Fanatics

The New York Knicks sparked more merch sales on Fanatics.com in the first 24 hours after their stunning Saturday win than any other championship team in any sport in years past, according to the popular site.

Fanatics logged over 8,000 orders of Knicks apparel and memorabilia per minute upon offering Championship-branded products right after the historic win.

The closest runner-up in terms of merch sales was the Philadelphia Eagles, who fueled 5,500 orders per minute when they won last year’s Super Bowl, according to Fanatics.

The NY Knicks broke a 53 drought, winning the NBA Championship on June 14. Charles Wenzelberg / NY Post

“The order volumes for the Knicks is something we have not seen for any other sport or team,” Sam Archibald, Fanatics’ chief merchandising officer, told The Post on Monday.

Knicks merch ranges from a Jalen Brunson jersey going for $124.99 to a $22 infant bodysuit boasting of the championship win. Unsurprisingly, no. 11 is the most popular Knicks jersey on the site.

There’s also a Fanatics-Post collaboration featuring the historic front and back pages of Sunday’s edition of the paper. Shipping for the in-demand item is set to start July 6, according to Fanatics.

The Knicks started breaking sales records when they clinched the Eastern Conference title on May 25, outpacing the previous record set by the Golden State Warriors in 2022 when they captured the Western Conference championship.

The Knicks drove more merchandise sales in the first two hours after their conference triumph than the Warriors did in the five days following their title, according to Fanatics.

“Based on that, we understood the level of fandom,” Archibald said.

As the NBA Finals got underway last week, Fanatics dispatched a “fan wagon” that traversed Big Apple hot spots including Bryant Park, Rockefeller Center and the West 4th Street basketball courts, drawing lines of up to 150 people at a time, a spokesman for Fanatics said.

The company is expecting this Thursday’s ticker-tape parade to “drive another large sales spike,” according to Archibald.

The most popular location for Knicks merch was, of course, the New York metropolitan area.

Outside of the Big Apple, Florida was the biggest market for blue-and-orange merch — over 300 items to choose from on Fanatics.com.

Jalen Brunson merchandise is the most sought after online and in stores, according to Fanatics. Robert Miller for NY Post

The 2016 Chicago Cubs hold the Fanatics record for sales in the weeks after a championship, but the Knicks are on track to overtake them, too, said Archibald.

That’s even though the Cubs went 108 years before winning a World Series, he noted.

Eating insects may be easier to stomach than consumers expect

For anyone on the fence about eating insect-based foods, a tasting experiment may be enough to change some minds.

To discover how consumers respond to insect-based foods, researchers from the University of Beira Interior in Portugal measured the brain activity and heart rate of people while they sampled insect foods. The scientists also incorporated traditional surveys into their research.

Thirty-eight adults who had never tried insect-based foods before participated in the study. They tasted both an insect protein bar and a cereal bar while the researchers measured their physiological responses.

The findings were presented at the Society for the Study of Ingestive Behavior’s annual meeting.

“The researchers expected participants to have low awareness of insect-based foods, prefer the cereal bar and show stronger physiological reactions to the insect-based product,” a news release on the study noted. “Instead, the findings revealed that people were often more curious and receptive than expected.”

Some of the participants were made aware of which bar they were eating, while others were told they were eating a cereal bar, when it actually contained insects.

“The physiological measurements showed that participants became more attentive and engaged while consuming the insect-based bars,” the release said.

Participants’ heart rates also increased during the tasting sessions, indicating “heightened arousal and attentiveness.” This response was present even when participants didn’t know they were consuming an insect-based product.

Most participants said they preferred the insect bar over the cereal bar, the researchers found. They also determined that “curiosity and attention may outweigh initial disgust toward insect-based foods.”

The findings align with previous polling that suggests Americans may be more open to insect-based foods than commonly assumed. A 2021 YouGov survey found that 25% of Americans were willing to ingest insect ingredients, while 18% said they would be willing to eat whole bugs.

“The findings were very surprising,” said lead author Andreia C. B. Ferreira, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Beira Interior.

“This was really an unexpected result as literature said to us that consumers tend to reject these novel foods. The results show us the relevance of tasting experiments on promoting this new alternative.”

The edible insect market is expanding, according to Fortune Business Insights, which estimates the global market will grow from $1.73 billion in 2025 to $13.23 billion by 2034, driven by growing interest in sustainable nutrition, resource efficiency and diversified protein sources.

Beetles dominated the insect-based food market in 2025, with 33% of the share, Persistence Market Research reported.

The yellow mealworm and lesser mealworm also topped the list, while crickets and grasshoppers were the fast-growing insect type segment.

Ashley Gearhardt, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at the University of Michigan, told Fox News Digital that it’s “exciting to see that consumers may be open to new abundant sources of nutrition.”

“We are going to have to be creative to make sure people are fed and nourished in the 21st century — and this study suggests we may be more curious and willing to try new things,” added Gearhardt, who was not involved in the study.

Several insect-based food products are already available to consumers. Chirps Chips are tortilla-style chips made with cricket flour, while other companies market cricket protein powders and snack bars.

Jiminy’s grain-free cookies for dogs are made with crickets and grubs.

Insect-based foods should be promoted as new and beneficial for both their nutritional and sustainability aspects, Ferreira said.

Exposing people to unfamiliar foods through sample tastings may cause them to view the novel foods differently, the researchers concluded.

“In this study, participants often expressed uncertainty or surprise when discussing insect-based foods before tasting them, yet many reported positive reactions after trying the product,” according to the release.

It also noted that this was a very small study — and that larger, more diverse studies are necessary to gain more conclusive information.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find on seats for any one gig was $84 including fees on SeatGeek.

Prices start at $122 including fees for the San Francisco show.

Based on our findings at Set List FM, Plant and co. typically perform 13-songs per show. Typically, the group — which is more classical rock than classic rock if you catch our drift — bust out their takes on traditional covers and a handful of Zeppelin tracks.

When the band performed at New York City’s Cathedral of Saint John the Divine on April 7, the Zep cuts they played were “Ramble On,” “Four Sticks,” “Friends” and “The Rain Song.”

A New York Post writer attended the show and claimed “Plant’s husky falsetto is still intact and his precise, nimble, almost inhuman guttural vocals filled the cathedral. Of course, he’s absolutely ferocious on the harmonica, too.”

They added “every song takes you on a journey where you feel as if you’re trudging through the forests of Mordor. This is a true spiritual experience. Hearing Plant play Zeppelin live can heal you.”

As noted above, Plant rocked New York City’s Cathedral of Saint John the Divine on April 7. According to Set List FM, here’s what he took to the stage.

01.) “The Very Day I’m Gone” (Nora Brown cover)

Robert Plant new music

On Sept. 26, Plant dropped his 12th studio album “Saving Grace.”

One of the major standouts here is the aforementioned cover of Low’s “Everbody’s Song.” Although the high-pitched yelp that made Plant famous has become a bit gruffer and raspier over the years, the indefatigable spirit is still deeply embedded within his voice that makes it unmistakably Robert Plant-ian.

Over Zeppelin-esque “Battle of Evermore”-like mandolins — that wouldn’t sound out of place over a “Game of Thrones” battle — the jolly collaborators deliver a truly foreboding track. It’s sweeping, epic, intimate and much heavier than Plant’s detour into bluegrass these past few years.

Also, be sure to check out “Gospel Plough,” which somehow sounds like it was plucked from a Tolkien-esque fantasy world and America’s heartland. Plant duets with Saving Grace’s Suzi Dian here to create an unnerving, spiritual listening experience.

If you’d like to hear for yourself, you can find “Saving Grace” here.

And, as a bonus, here’s the track list for “Saving Grace” (Plant’s first album since 2021’s “Raise The Roof” with Alison Krauss and first solo effort since 2017’s “Carry Fire”):

01.) “Chevrolet”
02.) “As I Roved Out” (traditional folk song)
03.) “It’s A Beautiful Day Today” (Moby Grape cover)
04.) “Soul Of A Man” (Blind Willie Johnson cover)
05.) “Ticket Taker” (the Low Anthem cover)
06.) “I Never Will Marry” (The Carter Family cover)
07.) “Higher Rock”
08.) “Too Far From You”
09.) “Everybody’s Song” (Low cover)
10.) “Gospel Plough”

Some tracks were previously performed by Memphis Minnie, Martha Scanlan and Sarah Siskind.

Saving Grace

In 2019, Plant formed the four-person group Saving Grace.

For the past six years, Suzi Dian (vocals), Oli Jefferson (percussion), Tony Kelsey (mandolin, baritone and acoustic guitar) and Matt Worley (banjo, cuatro and acoustic and baritone guitars) have been waiting for their moment in the sun.

The handpicked group was originally supposed to perform live in 2020 — they announced their tour on March 3, 2020 (!) — but their trek was promptly canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After doing a bit of digging, we found their music is typically comprised of “songs that span Plant’s diverse tastes and influences, notably his lifelong passion for British and American folk, spirituals, and traditional blues.” Plant also referred to their sound as “psychedelic soul.”

Robert Plant NPR Tiny Desk concert

On Nov. 21, 2025, Plant and Saving Grace unveiled their five-song Tiny Desk Concert.

Over 26 scant minutes, the sextet delivered tracks from their new album like “Gospel Plough,” “Higher Rock” “Everybody’s Song” “It’s a Beautiful Day Today” and the Zeppelin classic “Gallows Pole.”

To get a taste for yourself of the songs NPR called “more restrained and profoundly beautiful folk, blues and roots music,” you can find their entire concert below:

Emma Heming clarifies major ‘misconception’ about Bruce Willis’ dementia battle

Emma Heming Willis clarified a major “misconception” about husband Bruce Willis’ frontotemporal dementia diagnosis.

During an appearance on “The Bossticks” podcast Monday, the former model explained that the “Die Hard” actor’s brain disorder, which affects his frontal lobe and the temporal lobes, actually has “three different variants.”

“The one that Bruce has affects language, but there’s another variant that will affect behavior and another one that could affect movement,” she shared.

When asked if the variant that Bruce, 71, has affects memory, Emma replied, “No, it doesn’t.”

“That’s a different part of the brain. So when people say, ‘Oh, you know, does he remember who you are?’ Well, he does because he doesn’t have Alzheimer’s; he has FTD,” Emma clarified.

“I think that’s a very common misconception that, when you think of dementia, we think of memory loss,” she added.

Emma, 47, then declared that her husband knows who people are, including his five daughters.

“It’s different [from] Alzheimer’s,” she said. “And Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, but FTD is the most common form of dementia for people under the age of 60.”

In March 2022, the Willis family announced that the “Fifth Element” star would be stepping away from acting after he was diagnosed with aphasia. The following February, the action star’s family said he was battling FTD.

“While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis,” the Willis family — Emma, ex-wife Demi Moore and all five of Bruce’s daughters — said on the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration website at the time.

“FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and can strike anyone. For people under 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia, and because getting the diagnosis can take years, FTD is likely much more prevalent than we know,” they continued.

The family said that though there “are no treatments for the disease,” they “hope” they change that in the years ahead.

“As Bruce’s condition advances, we hope that any media attention can be focused on shining a light on this disease that needs far more awareness and research,” they added.

Emma and her husband are living in separate homes as the “Sixth Sense” star’s dementia battle progresses.

The “Unexpected Journey” author and Bruce share daughters Mabel, 14, and Evelyn, 12.

The former action star is also a dad to Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 32, whom he shares with Moore, 63.
