NYC fundraiser set to host men tied to anti-Israel, antisemitic crimes

A coalition of anti-Israel activist groups in New York is set to host a fundraiser for two convicted men and a third awaiting trial in cases tied to anti-Israel and anti-Jewish incidents, including the vandalism of a Pittsburgh Chabad center.

The event, titled “Repression Breeds Resistance,” is scheduled for Friday at Widdi Catering Hall in Brooklyn. Organizers say it will raise money for Jakhi McCray, Tarek Bazrouk, and Mohamad Hamad.

More than two dozen groups are sponsoring the event, including PAL-Awda and CUNY for Palestine.

Jayne Zirkle, communications director for EndJewHatred, told JNS that the participation of campus-affiliated groups such as CUNY for Palestine “openly encouraging and providing support for terrorism and extremist ideologies, including radical Islamist agendas, represents a serious challenge that universities can no longer ignore.”

Zirkle noted that these organizations have crossed the line from political expression into promoting and justifying violence, and that universities should hold participating campus groups accountable.

“Universities are creating an environment where Jew-hatred and extremism can take root,” she said.

McCray, a Brooklyn activist, pleaded guilty in April to federal arson charges after admitting that he set fire to 10 New York City Police Department vehicles and a trailer in a secured police lot in Brooklyn in June 2025, causing an estimated $800,000 in damage.

Prosecutors said the attack strained police resources ahead of planned anti-Israel demonstrations.

McCray, who blamed his indictment on state “repression” of the anti-Israel movement, faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison.

Bazrouk, of New York City, was sentenced in October 2025 to 17 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to a hate-crimes conspiracy charge stemming from a series of assaults on Jewish victims in New York City between 2024 and 2025.

Federal prosecutors said he targeted victims because they were Jewish or were perceived to be Jewish.

Hamad, of Coraopolis, Pa., is awaiting trial on federal charges related to the vandalism of Chabad of Squirrel Hill and the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh on July 29, 2024.

Prosecutors allege that Hamad and a co-defendant spray-painted anti-Israel graffiti, including “Jews 4 Palestine” and an inverted red triangle, on Jewish communal property because of the Jewish identity of those associated with the institutions.

Waymo recalls over 3800 robotaxis over risk of entering construction zones

Alphabet (GOOGL.O), self-driving unit Waymo is recalling nearly 3,900 robotaxis in the US because a software issue could cause the vehicles to enter a closed freeway construction zone and continue driving.

It ‌is the second recall by Waymo in just over a month.

The latest recall, filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), stems from more than a dozen incidents since early April in California and Arizona in which Waymo autonomous vehicles (AVs) did not recognise and drove past ramp closure signs into pre-planned freeway construction zones and freeway lanes with active construction work.

Separately, Waymo is facing an NHTSA investigation after one of its self-driving vehicles struck a child near an elementary school in Santa Monica, California, in January. AP

The company initially imposed freeway driving restrictions until it adopted improved awareness and responses to freeway closures. Waymo updated vehicle software to avoid entering construction zones.

Waymo said in a statement to Reuters on Thursday that it had “identified an area of improvement regarding performance around freeway construction zones. We voluntarily restricted freeway operations last month while making improvements.”

Last month, Waymo recalled about 3,800 robotaxis because vehicles could enter flooded roads with higher speed limits.

The recall followed an incident on April 20 in which a Waymo vehicle drove into a flooded ‌lane in San Antonio during extreme weather. Waymo said the vehicle was unoccupied and there were no injuries, but the incident prompted the company to review similar scenarios involving high speeds and impassable flooded roads.

Waymo has issued several recalls over the last two years, including over potentially inaccurately predicting the movement of a towed vehicle and over a vehicle’s detection response to pole or pole-like permanent objects.

Separately, Waymo is facing an NHTSA investigation after one of its self-driving vehicles struck a child near an elementary school in Santa Monica, California, in January, causing minor injuries.

In March, the National Transportation Safety Board said it was investigating an incident in January in which Waymo self-driving vehicles illegally passed a stopped school bus with its lights activated.

The issue of illegally passing stopped school buses had previously prompted a recall by Waymo last December.

Horrific rape rocks Berkeley High School as 22-year-old charged

A 22-year-old man accused of dealing marijuana to local teenagers has been accused of the rape of a high school girl in a parking structure near campus, court documents say.

Uriel Alegre-Rangel, 22, was charged with felony unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, Mercury News reported.

Alegre-Rangel has pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released from custody while the legal proceedings continue.

The charges, which were filed on May 20, come months after the teenage victim initially reported the assault to law enforcement.

According to the Berkeley Police Department, Alegre-Rangel was taken into custody last December to obtain a DNA sample, which authorities state later matched evidence collected from the victim’s rape kit.

Investigators learned that the 16-year-old victim had originally reached out to Alegre-Rangel on social media with the intent to purchase a marijuana vape pen.

Police reports indicate that the suspect was well-known among the Berkeley High School student body for selling cannabis and tobacco products. Court records note that the victim explicitly stated her age as 16 early in their digital conversation.

The incident took place last October near the campus. The victim informed investigators that during the meeting, Alegre-Rangel attempted to kiss her and “sighed” when she rejected his advances.

According to police accounts detailed in court filings, the situation then turned violent. Police say he then allegedly,” grabbed the victim’s wrists and held her down, and then “removed the victim’s pants and underwear against her will and engaged in sexual intercourse.”

Alegre-Rangel entered a plea of not guilty during a court appearance on June 10.

The case remains pending.

Record 25M US adults are living with their parents

For millions of young Americans, moving out is no longer a rite of passage. It’s becoming a luxury that a precious few can actually afford.

A record 25.2 million adults under the age of 35 were living with their parents last year, according to a new Realtor.com analysis, marking the highest total ever recorded and surpassing even the spike seen during the pandemic.

The findings suggest the country’s housing crunch is reshaping the timeline of adulthood. Roughly one-third of Americans under 35 now live under the same roof as their parents, a share that has remained stubbornly elevated for years despite a strong labor market.

The report points to soaring housing costs as the primary culprit.

A record 25.2 million adults under 35 lived with their parents in 2025, according to new Realtor.com data, pushing past the previous 2020 high even as the overall share (33.0%) has stayed roughly flat over five years. zinkevych – stock.adobe.com

“The adults living with their parents today are largely employed, and many hold college degrees. What’s holding them back isn’t a lack of qualifications, but rather, at least in part, a lack of housing they can actually afford,” Hannah Jones, senior economist at Realtor.com, said.

“This is a supply story, not an employment story.”

The typical home listed for sale nationally now carries a price tag of about $430,000, more than one-third higher than before the pandemic. Asking rents have also climbed sharply over the same period, putting both ownership and renting farther out of reach for many younger households.

Had living arrangements remained consistent with the patterns seen in the early 2000s, nearly 4.9 million fewer adults would still be residing with their parents today, according to the study.

Had co-residence patterns from the early 2000s persisted, 4.86 million fewer young adults would be living at home today. GR/peopleimages.com – stock.adobe.com

The trend extends well beyond recent college graduates struggling to get started.

Among Americans between 25 and 34 years old who live at home, about seven in 10 hold jobs. The share of employed adults in their late 20s who reside with parents has steadily risen over the past quarter century, even as workforce participation within that group has remained relatively stable.

The data also challenges another common assumption. Most of those living at home have never married, and an increasing share hold college degrees.

About one-third of 25- to 29-year-olds living with parents possess a bachelor’s degree or higher, illustrating how educational attainment has not insulated younger generations from affordability pressures.

The trend is driven by housing costs rather than joblessness, since about 70% of 25-to-34-year-olds living with parents are employed, and the share of employed late-20s adults living at home has grown from roughly one in nine in 2000 to nearly one in seven in 2025 despite stable employment rates. KayExam/peopleimages.com – stock.adobe.com

The numbers become even more striking among millennials. Nearly 3 million adults between 30 and 34 years old now live with their parents, roughly double the figure recorded at the beginning of the century.

Researchers say the roots of the problem stretch back years.

The housing market never fully recovered from the construction slowdown that followed the 2008 financial crisis, creating a shortage of roughly 4 million homes nationwide. The pandemic then delivered a second shock, sending prices and borrowing costs sharply higher and leaving many would-be buyers sidelined.

A small slice of young adults managed to take advantage of historically low mortgage rates during the early pandemic years. Those who came later faced a dramatically different landscape defined by stagnant higher rates, limited inventory and expensive rents.

The underlying math points to affordability: the national median home list price has climbed to $430,000 (up 34.4% since 2019) and median asking rent has reached $1,673 (up 17.9%), pricing many young adults out of independent living. Hernan Schmidt – stock.adobe.com

As a result, many Americans who would traditionally have formed households of their own remain parked in childhood bedrooms, delaying major milestones such as marriage, homeownership and wealth building.

Jones said the growing number of adults living with parents represents a wave of future housing demand waiting on the sidelines.

“Twenty-five million adults living with their parents represents a generation of latent demand the market hasn’t absorbed,” Jones said.

“Every adult still in a childhood bedroom is a household not formed, a lease unsigned, a starter home unpurchased. The typical first-time buyer is now 40 — that’s not a coincidence, it’s the math of a market that hasn’t built enough.”

Bear and cubs spotted ‘wrestling’ in LA garden

A homeowner in California has captured the adorable moment a bear and its two cubs made themselves comfortable in her garden.

Once the bears entered the garden, they proceeded to relax in the shade and play.

The video, filmed in Sierra Madre, Los Angeles County, California, shows a large California bear lying under the cover of the trees near a garden fence, while its two small cubs play and wrestle each other.

When the woman pans the camera around to show the rest of the garden, a pet tortoise can be seen, watching the bears.

Later, the bears sniff around the tortoise, clearly intrigued by the animal.

The woman laughs and exclaims: “Oh my god, they’re so little!”

The presence of the animals inevitably raised concerns for safety, prompting the homeowner to take precautions and stay inside.

Local wildlife officials recommend keeping a distance and securing food sources to deter bears from residential areas.

But bear sightings in urban areas are becoming increasingly common.

Naturally, as human environments increase, bear habitats decrease. This forces them into built-up areas as they search for food and shade.

“Why lift up rocks in the forest to find a few worms when they can get a whole pizza out of someone’s garbage bin?” Wilson Sherman, a researcher for the University of California, said, addressing the increasing sightings of bears.

“They’re smart, and they quickly learn that neighborhoods can be a valuable source of calorie-dense food.”

Guests gather at Taylor Swift’s Rhode Island home ahead of Travis Kelce wedding

Guests have gathered at Taylor Swift’s Rhode Island mansion — sparking speculation that she is celebrating her bachelorette party or a pre-wedding celebration.

Video of a woman – who resembles the pop singer — was seen wearing white and surrounded by three pals dressed in black on the balcony of Swift’s $17 million oceanside vacation home in a since-deleted TikTok video posted by user @laurelaa87 on Wednesday.

In addition, TMZ obtained video of a woman who appeared to be the singer’s friend Abigail Anderson Berard on the balcony of the home holding a young child.

The outlet reported security presence at the mansion — including an armed guard by the gate of the home and two others with binoculars with eyes on the beach area.

It isn’t entirely out of the question that the “Love Story” singer is celebrating her bachelorette party as she is expected to be getting married in just three short weeks.

Kelce was in Los Angeles on Monday for his “New Heights” podcast live show in Los Angeles.

Page Six exclusively reported that Swift and her fiancé, Travis Kelce, are set to say “I Do” at Madison Square Garden on July 3.

Just days ago, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani dropped a major clue about the wedding celebration while discussing security measures being taken for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

“I am fully confident in the work of the NYPD, as well as our state partners, in delivering that safe experience,” the politician told reporters at a press conference Monday.

“We are the biggest city in the country,” he continued. “We are used to big events, and we are incredibly excited for this one.”

He continued, “We know it coincides with the Knicks’ [NBA] Finals run. We know it coincides with July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift’s wedding — all happening at the same time — and we are so excited to welcome the world here.”

Multiple sources told Page Six that Swift and Kelce have tapped celebrity wedding planner Mark Seed to plan their nuptials.

One insider told us that Seed has been working with the couple “for months.”

Jose Alvarado gets wild on float with boombox during Knicks’ celebration

There might be no one enjoying this Knicks championship more than Jose Alvarado.

During Thursday’s ticker-tape parade in Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn native Jose Alvarado grabbed a boombox and a microphone and began appealing to the thousands of Knicks fans who turned out for the franchise’s first ever parade up the Canyon of Heroes.

“We brought the trophy home. Let’s party, baby, let’s party. Knicks in five,” Alvarado professed into a microphone while standing atop a float.

The victory goes even deeper for Alvarado, who grew up a Knicks fan and starred at Christ the King high school.

Alvarado’s roots and New York pride have endeared him to Knicks fans since his arrival to the team. He was born in 1998, one year before the Knicks’ last appearance in the Finals in 1999.

Alvarado is making his second appearance at a New York parade in just one week. On Sunday, the day after the Knicks clinched their first championship in 53 years, Alvarado attended the Puerto Rican Day Parade, appearing on a float alongside New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani in Alvarado’s native Brooklyn. Teammate Jordan Clarkson joined in the celebration with Alvarado.

Alvarado won the championship in his first season with his hometown team. He spent five years with the New Orleans Pelicans before being traded to the Knicks in February. Though he had a limited role throughout the Finals, Alvarado came off the bench in Game 4 with an impressive performance, hitting multiple threes to help erase a 29-point deficit and give the Knicks the largest comeback in NBA Finals history. He also appeared in the closeout Game 5.

While the 2026 championship is the third in Knicks history, this is their first parade. There were no parades following the 1970 and 1973 Finals. The turnout for Thursday’s parade reportedly reached over a million.

Costco shoppers are buying-up boxes of Tim Tam cookies

Costco shoppers are flocking to the shelves over a legendary Aussie snack that has finally touched down in American stores.

The “Australian Oreo” is sparking a wild Costco frenzy. Tim Tams, the iconic Australian cookie, have been stocked in Costco’s across the U.S. and American shoppers have been hoarding.

The Original Tim Tam is a triple-layered threat: two malted chocolate biscuits sandwiching a creamy cocoa filling, all covered in a thin layer of textured chocolate. While the classic is the gold standard, they also offer varieties like White Chocolate, Mangoes and Cream and Chocolate Mint.

At $13.99 a box, you get six sleeves — 66 cookies in total — but even that isn’t enough for the ravenous Costco crowds. Customers are loading up their carts with multiple boxes, creating a frenzy that is taking over the aisles.

The love for Tim Tams is not just about the taste, but the ritual. American customers are quickly learning the art of the “Tim Tam Slam.” As one Reddit user raved: “My Australian friend said to drink your coffee through them like a straw.”

The “Slam” is when you bite off diagonal corners, submerge one end in your hot beverage, and suck the liquid through the cookie like a straw. Once the hot coffee or tea melts the inner cream, you then eat the cookie before it dissolves.

In Australia, where they were created by Arnott’s in 1964, the cookies are a national treasure. They are imported from Sydney and are known for the “Slam.”

The cookies being sold in the US are popular and still are not the original recipe as the AUS version. The box of Tim Tam available at Costco lists ingredients that include artificial color additives such as Red 40, Yellow 6, and Blue 1, which aren’t listed on the ingredient list for the Tim Tam cookies sold there.

The Tim Tam Slam craze has even reached celebs. Aussie actress Isla Fisher recently gave Kelly Clarkson a masterclass on the technique on the Kelly Clarkson Show. And Sarah Snook, Australian actress in Succession, also gave a tutorial to Jimmy Fallon when she was on the Tonight Show, the two dipping their Tim Tams in tea.

The Tim Tam Slam trend reached virality on TikTok, with users sharing their “Aussie culture” and posting tutorials on how to properly do a “Slam.”

One Redditor bought 8-9 cases “because they’re the BEST store-bought cookie ever. I’m willing to die on that hill,” they wrote. Another said to Australian travelers: “Highly recommend a second suitcase so you can take back as many varieties as possible and get your friends hooked.”

Costco is not only introducing international treasures, but also a new checkout system to improve customer experience, with new scanning technology and digital membership cards that have improved checkout speed up to 20%.

UConn coach Dan Hurley wants to face Duke at White House after UFC extravaganza

UFC Freedom 250 has sparked inspiration for one college basketball coach.

Sunday’s UFC card at the White House was a major financial success, despite being a logistical nightmare with UFC President Dana White telling reporters that he will not do any other outdoor events.

UConn two-time national champion coach and known MMA fan Dan Hurley attended the event, and later floated the idea of a potential heavyweight clash at the White House to TMZ’s Charlie Cotton.

Dan Hurley says that he would love for his UConn team to play at the White House Tmz Sports

“That would be good, man,” Hurley told TMZ with a laugh when asked about a potential college basketball game held at the White House.

“I think Uconn should definitely be in it, maybe Uconn-Duke.”

Many would be surprised to even consider an outdoor basketball game, although it’s not a foreign concept.

The Carrier Classic began in 2011 and featured teams competing on an aircraft carrier. The first two teams, North Carolina and Michigan State, played on the USS Carl Vinson.

North Carolina beat Michigan State 67-55, but due to the limited space, attendance was always low.

None of the Carrier Classic games ever exceeded crowds of 10,000.

An overall view during the “UFC Freedom 250” POOL via CNP/INSTARimages.com

While only around 4,000 invited guests watched the UFC fight up close, over 85,000 people flocked to The Ellipse just outside the White House to watch it.

If a basketball game were to take place at the White House, there would likely be a large attendance, especially if it featured a heavyweight matchup between Duke and UConn.

Both teams are elite college basketball programs, and the Huskies upset the Blue Devils last year in the Elite Eight in an all-time classic.

They will meet again this upcoming season in Las Vegas.

If they agreed to a White House game, it would be an unforgettable moment for college basketball.

New mRNA flu vaccine could be next as FDA panel weighs historic shot

WASHINGTON — U.S. health advisers are debating a new kind of flu vaccine Thursday, the first made with the same mRNA technology that was key to ending the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moderna is seeking Food and Drug Administration approval of its new shot, dubbed mFlusiva, as an option for people 50 and older.

The FDA advisory committee meeting is a step toward a final decision ahead of the winter flu season.

Tens of thousands of Americans die from influenza every year, and older adults are among the most vulnerable.

There are various types of flu vaccines already available in the U.S., including three specifically recommended for people 65 and older.

But vaccines made with the Nobel Prize-winning mRNA technology are faster to manufacture than other types — something experts say might help if the shape-shifting flu virus mutates in a way that requires suddenly brewing new doses to match.

In a study of 40,000 people age 50 and older, Moderna’s mRNA vaccine reduced flu cases by about 27% compared to those given another routinely used vaccine brand.

Ahead of the meeting, FDA published a favorable review of that data and reported no safety concerns.

Moderna is seeking full approval for the vaccine’s use in the 50- to 64-year-old population — along with authorization for use in those 65 and older while it conducts additional testing.

Earlier this year, Moderna’s data was at the center of a highly unusual public dispute as a then-top FDA official blocked the company’s application for its first-of-its-kind shot.

The embattled vaccine chief at the time, Dr. Vinay Prasad, said the company should have compared its shot to a high-dose flu vaccine recommended for seniors rather than a standard-dose brand.

It was a sign of FDA’s heightened vaccine scrutiny under Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Moderna challenged that decision, noting that FDA staff had approved that main study’s design and citing a separate, smaller study comparing the mRNA shot with a high-dose vaccine for seniors.

Days after the spat, the FDA accepted Moderna’s application.

The expert panel also will assess that smaller study, which found Moderna’s shot generated flu-fighting antibodies similarly to a high-dose senior shot.

The FDA’s initial review noted the new vaccine lacks data on very frail older adults and those with weak immune systems.
