Olympic medallist Jenny Simpson is receiving treatment in hospital following a “medical incident” at an event in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The 39-year-old American was pacing a mile group at a Sir Walter Miler pop-up event on Tuesday when she reportedly collapsed and needed CPR.
Simpson, who retired from competitive running at the end of the 2024 season, won gold in the 1500m at the 2011 World Championships and a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
In a statement on X, external, the Sir Walter Miler team confirmed the incident and said: “Jenny is receiving excellent medical care, and our thoughts are with her and her family during this time.
“We are incredibly grateful to the individuals who responded immediately, as well as EMS and the medical professionals who handled the situation with such care, urgency, and professionalism.
“We are also thankful to everyone who has reached out with concern and support. We ask that you continue to keep Jenny and her family in your prayers as we all hope for the very best.”
Simpson also won silver medals in the 1500m at the 2013 and 2017 World Championships.
Artificial Intelligence will lead to labor shortages, not the replacement of humans, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos predicted in a highly optimistic appearance at the VivaTech technology conference in Paris on Wednesday.
Bezos put forward a rosy vision of how technology will help humanity, speaking about projects including his space venture Blue Origin and his new AI startup Prometheus, which is aimed at speeding up physical manufacturing.
“I know there’s a lot of concern that many people have, including many smart people, that AI is going to make humans redundant and so on,” Bezos said. “I totally disagree with this point of view. And I think, in fact, AI is going to create a labor shortage.”

Half of Americans fear the rise of AI could put them or someone in their household out of work, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found this month.
Bezos, the world’s fourth-richest person with a net worth around $250 billion, argued that people have “endless” things to do, and are currently limited by barriers that he said AI would lower.
“If space travel gets reliable enough and inexpensive enough, and we can get materials from asteroids and near-Earth objects and the moon, then this garden planet can be returned to its pre-Industrial Revolution state,” Bezos said.
Appearing together with Bezos was Blue Origin CEO David Limp, who said reconstruction of the firm’s launch pad for New Glenn rockets has begun in Florida following a dramatic explosion in May.

Musk has also put forward a lofty vision for space ahead of last week’s SpaceX IPO, including plans to create cities on the moon and Mars.
In an interview with JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon last week, he talked about firing AI data centers into space and having vacations on the moon.
It’s an age-old nightlife scenario: you lock eyes with a stranger across a crowded bar, share a couple of cocktails, followed by the classic “walk of shame” the next morning.
For generations, one-night stands have been a late-night experience so common, some describe it as a sexual rite of passage.
Elisabeth Neumann, sexologist and head researcher at global sex toy retailer, told news.com.au that younger generations aren’t necessarily more “prudish,” but are instead reacting to a radically altered dating climate.
The shift is being driven by a range of factors including dating app fatigue, a massive decline in nightlife, and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
Younger generations are opting out of what many consider a sexual rite of passage of one-night stands and the walk of shame for a different dating experience. The change is attributed to a shift in the dating environment influenced by a range of factors. ViDi Studio – stock.adobe.com
The data revealed that only half of 18-to 24-year-olds have had a drunken sexual encounter, compared to nearly 70 percent of 25-to-34-year-olds and almost three-quarters of 35-to-44-year-olds.
The Lovehoney report noted that “without the inhibition-lowering effects of alcohol or specific spaces where hooking up is socially sanctioned, it’s no wonder that one-night stands are in decline.”
Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt has been ruled out of at least England’s next two matches at the T20 World Cup by a left calf injury suffered on Tuesday.
Sciver-Brunt, 33, retired hurt on 48 not out during England’s four-wicket victory over Ireland in Southampton.
Scans on Wednesday have revealed a strain in the all-rounder’s left calf – the same muscle she injured earlier this summer.
She will miss Saturday’s match against Scotland and Wednesday’s meeting with West Indies but England have not ruled her out of the tournament at this stage.
England say their captain will continue to be assessed over the coming weeks.

Emily Ratajkowski shared sizzling snaps on Instagram while on an island-hopping vacation this week. Emily Ratajkowski/ instagram
Emily Ratajkowski is out of office.
The model is quite literally painting the town red while island-hopping, sharing some Instagram snaps from her recent travels on Wednesday.
“Back on my favorite island (Mallorca!) and trying out some new ones too (🇬🇷)!” she captioned the carousel.
Amid a collection of barely-there bikinis, navel-grazing cover-ups and — of course — mouthwatering cuisine, Ratajkowski included an impromptu photo shoot wearing a head-turning red macramé Ferragamo dress that made the most of her famous curves.

The high-fashion netted dress features a completely see-through weave, an open back and long belled sleeves.
With three included photos and a video of the look, fans got the full effect of the jaw-dropping outfit from all angles.
The 35-year-old island-goer even popped in a blooper towards the end, attempting to twirl on a stone ledge in the look — and slipping off in the process.

Just last week, the model celebrated her 35th birthday in New York City in a similar style: a deep scarlet-toned dress held together by tiny strings down her torso.
Ratajkowski recently made headlines after penning an essay for the Cut accompanied by a photo of her breastfeeding a baby doll, writing that she experienced “a violent transition into a new reality of screaming baby on my aching tit and ring on my swollen finger” after welcoming her son in March 2021.
Emma Raducanu is on a tennis high and a new man has followed into the picture.
The 23-year-old was recently spotted with PR expert John Friend, 32.
The two were seen walking a dog and holding hands before getting close on a bench in Battersea Park in South West London.

A witness told The Sun, “Emma and her man looked like they didn’t have a care in the world as they meandered through the crowds. They looked besotted with one another. You wouldn’t have thought that, hours earlier, she’d suffered a defeat on the court.
“Any disappointment looked like it had evaporated as they cuddled. They certainly didn’t seem to be self-conscious of being together and affectionate — and there were plenty of other people around.”

The moment came hours after Raducanu lost the final of the WTA 500 HSBC Championships to Donna Vekic 6-0, 7-6 (6).
Despite a tough first set, the British No. 1 saved three championship points in the second that led to a tiebreak, where she saved yet another and nearly forced a deciding set before succumbing to Vekic.
Raducanu was also coming into the final on tired legs.

Bad weather earlier in the tournament forced her to have a two-match day Saturday.
She took down both Kamilla Rakhimova and Iva Jovic, and ended up spending two hours and 19 minutes more on the court that day than Vekic.
Raducanu is left still chasing her first trophy since her 2021 US Open title that she stunningly won as a qualifier.
