Prime Video’s new young adult series, Every Year After, is stealing viewers’ hearts. The show jumps from the past and the present, following 28-year-old Percy (Sadie Soverall) who returns to her hometown, Barry’s Bay for the summer. Percy must confront her past and cross paths with her ex-boyfriend (Matt Cornett) and his brother (Michael Bradway).

The compelling love story that checks all the boxes in your typical young adult romance begs the question: Is Every Year After based on a book?

Is Every Year After Based On A Book?

Yes!

Fans of the show may recognize the characters from Carley Fortune‘s bestselling debut novel Every Summer After. When Fortune, who serves as an executive producer, began to develop the series for Prime Video, the author made sure the series would stay true to her own personal experience spending summers in Canada. In a conversation at DECIDER’s studio, Fortune revealed it was vital to maintain the setting fans of the book fell in love with, “The thing I felt most strongly about was the setting and making sure the book was set in Canada. The first version of the script that I had read, which was about two years ago, was before our showrunner, Amy B. Harris, was on board. It was set in a town called Barry’s Bend in Wisconsin. So it was very, very important for me that this was a Canadian set show.”
