The Kodagu district police raided a homestay in Madikeri rural police station limits in the early hours of Wednesday and arrested 28 persons for indulging in gambling.
Acting on credible information that an illegal gambling session involving betting with cash was underway at the homestay in Kadagadalu village, personnel from the Madikeri sub-division special crime detection team raided the premises around 2 a.m. on Wednesday.
“During the raid, 28 accused persons, all natives of Mandya district and Bengaluru South district, were taken into custody. A case has been registered at the Madikeri Rural Police Station under Section 80 of the Karnataka Police Act, and legal action has been initiated against them,” said a statement here.
Cash amounting to ₹11,08,130, five cars, one two wheeler and 35 mobile phones were seized during the operation.
A statement from the Superintendent of Kodagu district police has commended the investigation team.
