The Mailardevpally police have busted an illegal tobacco (zarda) manufacturing unit operating from a warehouse in Katedan and arrested a supervisor, while launching a search for two persons organising the unit.
The arrested accused was identified as Tana Ram, 36, a native of Rajasthan, currently residing at Shyamala Nagar in Shivarampally.
During interrogation, he told investigators that the unit was being operated by Syed Jameel and Jithu Mishra, both residents of Begum Bazar, without the required licences or permits. Police said the accused packed the tobacco into small sachets and supplied them to shops and paan vendors across Hyderabad.
During the raid, officers seized 20 kg of processed tobacco (zarda), large paper rolls, 110 drums containing tobacco, and two tobacco manufacturing machines.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
