The J&K Police’s special wing, the State Investigation Agency (SIA), on Saturday (June 27, 2026) executed proclamation proceedings against a local who is allegedly “absconding and wanted in a cross-border narco-terror case”.
An SIA spokesperson said the proclamation was executed at the residence of the accused, identified as Bilal Shabir Awan, a resident of Dildar in Kupwara, “in the presence of the Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses”.
The SIA said a case was initially registered at the Parimpora police station, Srinagar, in January 2025 following the seizure of a substantial quantity of heroin during a cordon-and-search operation at Barthana in Srinagar.
“The case was transferred to SIA Kashmir, which unearthed a well-organised cross-border narco-terror network engaged in trafficking narcotics to finance and facilitate terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir,” said the SIA.
The police invoked the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the case.
“The SIA has since filed a chargesheet against seven accused persons, who are currently facing trial before the competent court, while further investigation into the wider conspiracy remains in progress,” it said.
