The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has decided to conduct a comprehensive survey of all buildings in the Chickpet Division, with a special team of town planners to be constituted to identify unauthorised constructions and initiate legal action.
Chairing a review meeting here on Tuesday, GBA Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao directed officials to undertake the survey and issue notices to owners of buildings found to be in violation of building regulations.
He instructed the officials to take appropriate action against unauthorised structures in accordance with the law.
In view of the fire risks in densely populated commercial areas such as Chickpet, Mr. Rao ordered an immediate fire safety audit that will assess the availability and condition of firefighting systems, emergency exits and overall emergency preparedness to improve public safety.
This comes in the backdrop of a fire accident that gutted over 30 shops in a complex near the Chickpet Metro Station in February earlier this year.
