Who is Josef On ‘Below Deck Mediterranean’? What’s The Deal With Johnny Damon’s Friend And Charter Guest

If you’re not up to speed with Below Deck Mediterranean, things took a turn for the worse during the second charter.

Bravo just released the third episode titled “Guestzilla on Board,” which is the absolute perfect description to match one of the new passengers on board. From the very start of the charter, one man named Josef is very clearly the rotten one of the guests. Whether it’s from is drunk behavior or his grating voice, you knew he was going to be a problem for Captain Sandy Yawn and her crew.

Without getting into spoilers, Josef wreaks havoc on the yacht throughout the episode. After yelling at Nathan Gallagher within the first 5 minutes on the yacht, tension between him and his clearly disgusted girlfriend , Adis, reach a boiling point. Before the crew finishes making lunch for the passengers, Adis leaves the yacht. Be free, Adis!

From here, Josef makes enemies with pretty much the entire crew. Even if you’re not an active viewer of the series, I highly recommend watching this episode. It’s a fascinating psychological look into a egotistical man completely detached from reality.

Like every viewer, I left last night’s episode with the main question: Who is this man? Well, I did ALL the research so you don’t have to!

Who is Josef on Below Deck Mediterranean?

A question I wish I never had to ask myself.

Nonetheless, it appears Josef may actually have a legit career. Josef Rettman, the man who claims to be worth $500 million is the President of NEI General Contracting, per his LinkedIn. According to the company’s website, NEI focuses on “premiere affordable housing” and claim they are “not just about building quality, but building quality of life.”

Rettman’s bio states, “Construction is in Josef’s blood. As the grandson of a City of Boston road and sidewalk contractor and the son of a general contractor, Josef’s path to construction success was quite literally set in stone from an early age.” Nepotism prevails once again!

How does Josef know Johnny Damon?

Despite the episode’s takeaway being Josef, the second charter’s main guest is Johnny Damon, former Major League Baseball player, and his wife, Michelle Damon. If those names sound familiar, they were previous charter guests on season 4 and season 5 of the show.

In the episode, it’s revealed Johnny and Josef are old friends.

What did Josef do on Below Deck Mediterranean?

What didn’t Josef do?

Every time you think Josef’s antics couldn’t get worse, he would prove you wrong. Let’s start with his girlfriend, Adis. After Adis rightfully left the boat after he drunkenly disrespected her, revealing her pays for her apartment and openly calling her “not that smart,” he declares himself “single.” Josef doesn’t stop there. He goes on to mention he is cutting Adis off after allegedly paying $12,500 a month for Adis’ lifestyle and rent during their relationship.

As the crew finally serves the passengers lunch after Adis’ departure, Josef laments, “I’m a tortured individual, but, like, I actually liked her.” I can’t even begin to describe the torture I felt hearing those words.

As for Nathan, he was the scapegoat for Josef’s drunk behavior. Josef started to hate Nathan after the bosun instructed him to go inside as crew departed the dock. In Josef’s mind, he saw Nathan’s instructions protecting his safety as disrespectful. Josef’s frustration only grew when he wasn’t allowed to drive the jet ski after having six cocktails. Apparently, the rules don’t apply to Josef. Things escalate to the end of the episode, where Josef is set to confront Nathan as he’s on watch for Captain Sandy. It’s a cliffhanger that will surely have you tuned into next week’s episode. Let’s see if Nathan will be able to control his emotions, or if he’ll decide to put Josef in his place.

New episodes of Below Deck Mediterranean air every Monday on Bravo at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Episodes are available to stream on Peacock the following day.
