The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) alleged that the State government was planning to privatise valuable properties of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and warned of State-wide protests if RTC depot lands were handed over to private entities.
Former Minister Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao, NTR district YSRCP president Devineni Avinash and former MLA Malladi Vishnu raised allegations after visiting the Vidyadharapuram RTC Depot in Vijayawada.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao alleged that the proposed demolition of the Vidyadharapuram depot was part of the coalition government’s attempt to transfer public assets worth thousands of crores to private entities under the pretext of infrastructure development and electric bus projects. “The RTC properties and employees should remain under the control of the corporation,” he said, adding that the party would launch protests to protect public assets.
Mr. Vishnu alleged that 12 RTC depots, including the Vidyadharapuram facility, were under consideration for transfer to private entities. The properties were worth around ₹6,000 crore, he said, adding that the previous YSRCP government had strengthened APSRTC by creating a ₹5,000-crore stabilisation fund and granting government employee status to nearly 50,000 RTC workers.
Mr. Avinash claimed that the government was eyeing prime RTC land after the previous YSRCP government had opposed a similar proposal for commercial use in Vijayawada. Lands belonging to 11 more RTC depots across the State were being considered for privatisation. The YSRCP would organise joint protests with RTC employees if the plans moved forward, he added.
