Sam Beal still missing almost one year later as ex-Giant’s family continues search

Former Giants draft pick Sam Beal remains missing nearly one year after his family last heard from him in the Virginia Beach area.

His sister, Essence Zhane, updated her Facebook status Friday night with the police’s missing persons report on Beal, who played in nine games with three starts for the Giants from 2018-21.

Beal, 29, was last seen on July 12, 2025 by his girlfriend after dropping her off at a family member’s house and borrowing the car, per the police.

He spoke to her for the final time the next day and said he was about to head home from Virginia Beach.

The car was recovered in Virginia Beach and contained Beal’s shoes and socks and some sand on the floor of the passenger side seat, according to police.

Beal is said to have had nothing with him besides the clothes on his back, a pair of slides and a wallet containing his banking card and driver’s license.

Zhane has made repeated pleas for information on her Facebook page.

“We’ve done everything we could on our end to piece things together and at this point we’re in desperate need of support on all ends,” she wrote in January.

“I’m not here to answer a bunch of why’s and how’s I just need this to land in the right direction to gain some form of answers or closure. I’m a Big sister and I need my brother to know that We Love You and miss you and this has been a heavy feeling for months to carry around.”

Anyone with any information is asked to reach out to the Virginia Beach police department or its detectives bureau for missing persons cases.

Beal was originally picked in the third round of the 2018 Supplemental Draft.

He missed his rookie season due to a shoulder injury and then opted out of the 2020 season under COVID-19 protocols.

Beal pled guilty in June 2021 – a few months before he was released – to two gun-related charges and possession of marijuana in less than bulk and was placed on two years probation.

Steven Spielberg Says He Was ‘Crushed’ After Harrison Ford Turned Down ‘Jurassic Park’ Lead Role

Steven Spielberg is looking back on one of Hollywood’s biggest “what could have been” casting stories.

During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the legendary director confirmed that Harrison Ford was once in the running to play Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park — and admitted he took the rejection hard.

“Yes, he did,” Spielberg said after host Josh Horowitz asked whether Ford had passed on the role. “He may not remember that, but I sure do.”

Emily Blunt, who was also appearing on the podcast, asked whether Ford’s decision upset him.

“I was crushed,” Spielberg replied.

The part eventually went to Sam Neill, who starred opposite Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Richard Attenborough in the 1993 blockbuster adaptation of Michael Crichton‘s bestselling novel. Looking back, Spielberg said he wouldn’t change a thing.

“But then Sam Neill came available,” he said. “He’s Alan Grant, and it now belongs to him.”

Given that Jurassic Park went on to become one of the highest-grossing films ever made and launched a franchise that’s still going strong more than three decades later, it’s easy to see why Spielberg feels that way.

The revelation also adds another chapter to the long history of near-misses involving Spielberg and Ford.

Before Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark got underway, Spielberg and George Lucas had originally settled on Tom Selleck to play the adventurous archaeologist. Speaking on the IMO podcast with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, Spielberg recalled that Selleck had already landed the role.

“We wanted Tom. We gave Tom the part,” Spielberg said, adding with a laugh that the actor probably would have had to shave off his famous mustache.

Selleck’s commitment to CBS ultimately kept him from signing on, opening the door for Spielberg to suggest Ford after seeing an early screening of The Empire Strikes Back.

Lucas initially worried moviegoers would only see Ford as Han Solo, but he eventually sent him the script anyway. The gamble paid off, with Ford going on to play Indiana Jones across five feature films and helping turn the franchise into a pop culture staple with television spinoffs, books, video games, and theme park attractions.

As for Jurassic Park, Spielberg seems content leaving that particular casting what-if in the past. Ford may have turned down the dinosaurs, but the director believes the role ultimately found the actor it was meant for.

Operation Meow-Meow! Ukrainian ‘Vampire’ drone rescues cat family from frontlines

A cat and her four kittens stranded on the front lines in war-torn Ukraine didn’t have to claw their way to safety — they caught a ride aboard a specialized “Vampire” hexacopter drone in a daring mission dubbed “Operation Meow-Meow.”

Soldiers with Ukraine’s 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade traded combat for cat saving, airlifting the fuzzy five from danger to safety, reported the award-winning fighting unit.

The 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade put their skills to use in “Operation Meow-Meow.” 118th Separate Mechanised Brigade/Facebook

“When different brigades showcase the work of heavy hexacopter drones like the Vampire, they’re usually doing night drops [of explosives], destroying armored vehicles, burning out dugouts or delivering supplies. But our story is completely different — it’s about rescue,” one soldier said.

The whiskered passengers were ferried from the front lines to safer territory, a journey of roughly 7.5 miles that required some purr-cision flying during the June 8 mission.

The drone pilot carefully transported the cats before depositing them safely out of harm’s way.

Sadly, not every animal has been so fortunate.

The nonstop devastation across Ukraine has left countless pets stranded. Many fleeing families have been forced to leave beloved companions behind when they couldn’t meet European Union requirements for vaccinations, microchips and rabies testing.

In response, Ukrainians have created shelters and rescue networks for displaced animals, while soldiers have made a habit of taking strays under their wing.

And soldiers on the front lines have rescued as many of the stranded and scared animals as possible.

According to UAnimals, one of Ukraine’s largest animal welfare organizations, more than 10,000 animals have been evacuated since the full-scale invasion began.

The rescued menagerie includes cats, dogs, tigers, camels, horses, cows, racoons, wolves, donkeys, porcupines, lemurs, sheep and even bees.

Cats, in particular, seem to be everywhere along the front.

They’re found prowling checkpoints, sheltering in bombed-out buildings and curling up beside wounded patients in makeshift medical facilities, always ready for a scratch behind the ears.

Ukraine’s determination to protect animals amid the chaos has earned widespread admiration.

“In the midst of the horror of war, our Heroes show true human kindness! Thank you,” one Facebook commenter wrote.

“Thank you on behalf of all the cats!” added another.

A third praised the sounders for “saving the little tails,” while anther summed it up simply, “Cats can sense good people.”

The UN needs an extreme makeover

Rarely has an institution founded on such noble ideals plunged to such lows.

The United Nations, headquartered by Manhattan’s East River, was established in 1945, in the wake of World War II, to prevent humanity from more cataclysmic conflicts. After two world wars claimed 100 million lives, the UN’s founding members sought to replace the failed League of Nations with a functioning forum capable of resolving global disputes before they spiraled into catastrophe.

Eight decades later, that vision is under unprecedented strain. The UN today is beset by corruption scandals, dogged by questions about its relevance and saddled with a funding crisis so severe that the outgoing secretary-general, António Guterres, warned of “imminent financial collapse” and “a race to bankruptcy.”

For the past two years, I have worked inside the United Nations system. I have seen its failures up close, from UNRWA’s shameful entanglement with Hamas in the Oct. 7 massacre to the secretary-general’s weeks-long delay in responding to the Islamic Republic’s slaughter of Iranian protesters in January.

The UN’s failures are largely indicative of a sprawling bureaucracy that has grown bloated and inefficient.

Yet despite what I have seen, I do not believe the United Nations is beyond saving. What it faces now is an existential make-or-break moment. Either it dramatically reforms itself or continues its slide into irrelevance, and UN insiders agree.

“We are putting the UN on a diet and we are pushing the institution to do less better instead of trying to be everything to everyone,” US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz told me in a phone interview.

As part of the Trump administration’s “Make the UN Great Again” campaign, Waltz said the US — which contributes roughly a quarter of the UN’s regular budget, more than what 180 member states pay in combined assessed dues — has pushed for sweeping cuts, including moving almost 3,000 bureaucrats out of the New York headquarters, as well as a 25% reduction in its peacekeeping personnel worldwide.

Reversing such waste and redundancy were also what prompted President Trump to withdraw the United States earlier this year from several UN agencies, including UNESCO, the World Health Organization and the UN Human Rights Council.

“Regardless of where you are on the climate debate, I think we can all agree that you don’t need seven agencies, each with their own headquarters, staff and overhead focused on the climate issue,” Waltz added.

But meaningful reform is not simply a matter of cutting budgets and reducing headcount. A veteran European journalist who covers the UN closely told me that it must also work expeditiously to restore its credibility. The UN can turn a corner, the journalist said, but it “needs a more decisive leader — one able to defend the UN charter, push back against paralysis and make the institution feel relevant again to the people it was created to serve.”

“We are putting the UN on a diet and we are pushing the institution to do less better instead of trying to be everything to everyone,” US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz said. Pacific Press/LightRocket via Getty Images

The crisis of leadership is so palpable that every candidate vying to replace Guterres as the world’s next top diplomat has felt compelled to acknowledge the UN’s slip into dysfunction.

“Trust in the UN is waning,” warned Rebeca Grynspan, the Costa Rican candidate hoping to become the first woman to lead the organization. “Too many think the UN is absent from negotiations to end war…and today the UN confronts a political, a legitimacy and an operational crisis.”

Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency and another leading candidate, similarly said the UN’s “effectiveness must be renewed…The world needs a United Nations capable of responding to the real demands of our time, with impartiality and a results-oriented approach grounded in facts.”

Their diagnosis is correct. The next secretary-general will inherit an institution facing waning public trust, mounting geopolitical divisions, chronic financial instability and growing skepticism from the very nations that fund it, which explains why the United States remains approximately $4 billion in arrears to the UN.

But crises can also breed opportunity.

The United Nations was created because the world recognized that international cooperation, however imperfect, was preferable to chaos. That fundamental truth has not changed. What has changed is the UN’s ability to adequately demonstrate that it can still fulfill that mission.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce put wedding guests on lockdown with ‘ironclad’ NDA: report

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s love story includes an NDA.

Ahead of the couple’s upcoming nuptials, TMZ reported on Saturday that guests who received a wedding invite are required to sign a ironclad non-disclosure agreement before receiving any details about the big day.

Insiders added that when a guest confirms their attendance, they are then sent the NDA link.

Anyone attending is prohibited from sharing details about the wedding and will be penalized if violations occur. Those consequences, however, were not disclosed to TMZ.

Page Six reached out to a rep for Swift for comment.

Karlie Kloss, Zoë Kravitz, Ed Sheeran, Suki Waterhouse, the Haim sisters, Gigi Hadid and Selena Gomez are among A-listers who have reportedly received invites.

Page Six recently confirmed that Miles Teller and his wife, Keleigh Sperry, were left off the list after a falling out.

Multiple sources told Page Six earlier this month that Swift and Kelce, both 36, are set to tie the knot at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

“Everyone’s been sworn to secrecy,” said one source.

Page Six previously exclusively reported that the Grammy winner and football player’s special day will take place in New York over July 3 weekend.

A source explained that “privacy was of number one importance to them both.”

The insider added that the potential plan could have guests arriving to the venue on blacked-out buses.

Another source stated: “If you have billions you can transform the space into a wedding venue.”

ESPN confuses Paraguay for Panama in brutal World Cup error

The flags of Paraguay and Panama both contain red, white and blue.

But that’s no excuse for ESPN, which made an embarrassing mistake Friday night when previewing the USA-Paraguay men’s soccer game in the World Cup.

During a betting segment, the analysts discussed Paraguay and had the correct flag on the screen, but the graphic on the bottom of the monitor read: “U.S. opens World Cup tonight vs. Panama (9 ET).”

The erroneous graphic made two appearances in the segment.

Paraguay is in South America and Panama is in North America.

A flight between the two typically takes about seven hours, they are separated by about 2,800 miles and you cannot drive from one to the other.

Panama actually beat Team USA, 1-0, in the CONCACAF Nations League semifinal.

But Team USA fared much better against Paraguay, with a four-goal outburst, including two by Folarin Balogun. It was the first time the US had a multi-goal scorer and a four-goal game in the World Cup since 1930.

Paraguay is no slouch, however. As recently as 2024, Paraguay beat international powers Argentina and Brazil.

Two sports commentators discuss a U.S. vs Panama World Cup match.
That’s not Panama’s flag… @awfulannouncing/X

“I think the first game is always the most difficult, you know, to get the nerves out of the way,” Balogun said. “You want a result like this and it gives you a lot of confidence for the next game.”

Maybe first-game jitters got the best of the graphics department, too.

USA has a week off before returning to action at 3 p.m. Friday against Australia. To be clear, that’s not the same as Austria, Algeria or Argentina.

The Americans are in Group D with Australia, Paraguay and Turkey.

Panama is in Group L with England, Croatia and Ghana.

ESPN has media rights deals with the United Soccer League – a tier below Major League Soccer – and the National Women’s Soccer League.

Wanda Sykes Says Bill Maher Confronted Her Over Golden Globes Joke: “We Need Less of This”

Wanda Sykes is pulling back the curtain on what she says was a surprisingly tense encounter with Bill Maher after she roasted him at the 2026 Golden Globes.

During an appearance on Vulture’s Good One podcast, Sykes recalled bumping into the comedian in a parking lot after the ceremony, where she claimed Maher wanted to hash out the joke.

“He stopped me out in the parking lot,” Sykes said. “We were waiting for our cars.”

According to Sykes, Maher got right to the point.

“He was like, ‘What was that about?’ ” she recalled. “And I was like, ‘It’s a joke, Bill.’ He’s like, ‘Well, I mean, it wasn’t even a joke.’ I was like, ‘Oh no, I heard laughing. It was clearly a joke.’ “

The exchange stemmed from Sykes’ appearance at the 83rd Annual Golden Globes, where she presented the award for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television and took a shot at Maher, who was nominated for his special Bill Maher: Is Anyone Else Seeing This?

“Bill Maher, you give us so much,” Sykes joked from the stage. “But I would love a little less. Just try less.”

The cameras caught Maher cracking a smile before the joke seemed to land a little differently. If Sykes’ version of events is to be believed, he wasn’t quite ready to let it go after the show wrapped.

She said Maher continued pushing back during their parking lot conversation, which she reenacted on the podcast.

“He’s like, ‘But I don’t… I don’t… but, I mean, I don’t, but still… I mean, it’s not even a joke. It was just like…’ ” Sykes said. “I said, ‘See? You’re doing exactly what we said in the joke! We need less of this! You epitomize the joke. Less of this!’ “

“He didn’t care for it,” she added with a laugh.

Sykes also claimed Maher told her he’d been fielding texts from people who weren’t fans of the bit.

“He said he was getting a lot of texts and people were saying, ‘What was that?’ and ‘It was a stupid joke,’ ” Sykes recalled.

That, according to Sykes, was her cue to answer back.

“And when he said ‘stupid,’ I said, ‘Okay, now you’re gonna get it,’ ” Sykes said. “I was like, ‘Well, I got a lot of texts telling me how great it was and how they don’t like you, and it was really funny.’ “

The conversation apparently took one final turn that Sykes didn’t see coming.

“I guess, you know, that’s the problem. You’re watching Fox News, and I’m over here on MSNBC. See?” she said. “And then he asked me to be on his podcast,” Sykes said. “I was like, ‘Absolutely not!’”

Earlier in the night, Sykes also accepted the Golden Globe on behalf of absent winner Ricky Gervais, whose Netflix special Mortality won Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television, and jokingly dedicated the award to God and the trans community.

Sykes is currently starring in her latest Netflix stand-up special, Wanda Sykes: Legacy, which premiered on May 19.

California prison worker sues over vicious attack as she shows her life-altering injuries

A California prison kitchen supervisor is suing after she was allegedly attacked inside a walk-in freezer by an inmate in a violent incident that prosecutors say left her with life-altering injuries.

The alleged assault happened on Aug. 10, 2025 inside the kitchen freezer at the California Institute for Men in Chino, according to claims presented at a news conference connected to the lawsuit.

Attorneys allege the inmate, who was serving time for assault with a deadly weapon, attempted to sexually assault the supervisor before stabbing her in the neck.

A woman with a stitched laceration and scratches on her neck, lying in a hospital bed.

“There’s really no words that can describe what happened. I thought I lost my sister,” the victim’s sister said at a press conference.

Lawyers say the inmate should never have been assigned to work in the kitchen, where he allegedly had access to knives and other dangerous tools.

The alleged assault happened on Aug. 10, 2025 inside the kitchen freezer at the California Institute for Men in Chino.

Attorney Denisse Gastelum said the placement decision put staff at unnecessary risk and should have been prevented.

Gastelum also blasted prison staff, accusing a correctional officer of failing to monitor the encounter despite being warned that the supervisor and inmate would be entering an isolated area together.

“Letting him know, hey, I’m going to go into the freezer now with this prisoner. Watch me, have my back, supervise me. None of which he did,” Gastelum said at the press conference.

The lawsuit alleges that when the attack began, it wasn’t prison staff who rushed to help — it was fellow inmates.

“I want to make sure that we are clear on this. It was other prisoners that had to come to Jane Doe’s rescue while the correctional officer stayed there neglecting his duties,” Gastelum said.

Attorney Toni Jaramilla questioned why the inmate was assigned to work in the kitchen in the first place and why additional safeguards were not in place.

“Why was it that a known felon who attacks women was placed in an area where there are kitchen tools with knives and other weapons,” Jaramilla said at the presser. “Why was he placed there?”

“Why wasn’t there a correctional officer, maybe more than one, that will make sure Jane Doe is safe when she walks to the freezer to obtain items for the day? Why?” she added.

The California Department of Corrections has declined to comment on the allegations, citing the ongoing litigation.

Zohran Mamdani set to cut 264 NYC school safety agents as violent felonies rise in city schools

Mayor Mamdani proposed slashing 264 school safety agents from city schools in the coming fiscal year — a reduction parent groups warn could spell disaster in the wake of rising felony assaults in schools.

The cut, called for in Hizzoner’s preliminary budget, was announced Monday by New York City Council Education Chair Eric Dinowitz at the fiscal year 2027 budget hearing.

“The DOE savings plan calls for a vacancy reduction of 264 school safety agents, meaning that schools would not be able to fully staff SSAs if desired,” Dinowitz said at the City Council hearing.

SCHOOL SAFETY AGENTS SEEN FROM BEHIND
The Mayor is wants to slash school safety agents by 264 in the coming fiscal year. Gregory P. Mango

School safety agents are NYPD civilian employees who monitor city schools, prevent students from carrying weapons or drugs onto school grounds and intervene in fights.

“Currently, having just one School Safety Agent for every thousand students is not uncommon. Students are routinely late to class because of delays at scanners, and there are not enough SSAs who speak the languages of the students and families they serve,” Dinowitz told The Post.

Felony assaults in city schools have increased 5% over in the first half of this year with 109 serious assaults in the first half of the year , up from 103 in the same period the previous year, according to police data.

There were nearly 20 weapons arrests of people younger than 21-years old in the first quarter of 2026 with 16 knife possession arrests and two box cutter possession arrests, according to the NYPD’s school safety division.

That makes the proposed cut of 264 safety agents particularly alarming to parents and educators in the city’s most troubled schools.

“This makes me feel very uneasy for my child’s safety, if the number of safety agents are cut, who would their responsibilities fall upon? The admin? Staff? They already have their hands full,” said Jean, a Queens parent who asked that her last name not be used.

The proposed cuts come as assaults are up. Gregory P. Mango

But while felony assaults are up, school suspensions are down.

There were 9,193 suspensions from July through December 2025, 8.3% fewer than the same period the previous year.

The DOE attributed the drop in suspensions to the use of restorative justice — the controversial practice of putting violent and problem students in harm-reduction “circles” with teachers and their victims rather than strict discipline.

Knicks’ art pops up all over NYC as fans paint the city orange and blue during historic championship run

Knicks fever has fans painting the city orange and blue.

Large murals, splashy window art and bold paintings have been popping up across the city as the squad makes its run for its first NBA title in 53 years.

Scott Zimmerman took over part of the first floor of a building on the corner of East Houston and Eldridge Street to celebrate the Big Apple’s dream team.

The art features a massive, 20-foot-tall portrait of star point guard Jalen Brunson holding a basketball against a deep blue backdrop, with “Let’s Go Knicks” written in the corner.

It took Zimmerman, who has been painting murals on this wall for eight years, four days to complete.

The native New Yorker said he tapped into memories of Knicks posters from his childhood as he painted.

Fans are loving it.

“It has a response I could not have predicted,” the artist said. “It’s having an exceptional response and all universally positive.”

When the Knicks win it all, Zimmerman already knows what he’s going to do: replace the basketball in Brunson’s hand with an image of the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.

“Right now it’s spreading a lot of positivity and I need it to keep doing that,” Zimmerman said. “I’m hoping that they win and I can finalize it with a trophy in the hand.”

Another mural on Troutman Street and St. Nicholas Avenue in Brooklyn included portraits of multiple Knicks stars like Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby, with “Knicks” spelt out in vibrant graffiti lettering.

In Bushwick, an artist who gave his name only as Jason D. said he used a section of the exterior of L Train Vintage Brooklyn to showcase his Knicks love.

It took Jason a day and a half to paint his cartoony tribute to the team, which features Brunson with his trademark three fingers held up and the iconic Knicks crest.

Knicks fans couldn’t contain their excitement as they passed by the work-in-progress, which was created in partnership with the Bushwick Collective.

“Let’s go Knicks!” one jazzed up fan shouted, while another told him, “It’s our year!”

The joy was contagious, Jason said.

“With the Knicks being in the finals, that definitely helps bring the city together,” he said.
